The generation of two-frequency compound states is very challenging because it requires the access to two incommensurable frequencies that can be group-velocity matched within the considered system. We present here the theoretical investigation of a fiber-based self-generation scheme with a single-color pump as initial condition enabled by soliton fission and the spectral tunneling process. The Raman effect is found to enhance the efficiency of the creation process and the impact of the input pulse parameters on the scheme is investigated.

We study the dynamical evolution of two-frequency pulse compounds, i.e., intriguing bound-states of light, kept together due to their incoherent interaction. A special class of solutions of such compounds is found to be describable in terms of a simplified model. They entail generalized dispersion Kerr solitons and yield their corresponding metasolitons. We use these solutions to study when the interaction of their constituent pulses is independent of their phase. These results are relevant to understand the complex collision dynamics of quasi-group-velocity-matched solitons across a vast frequency gap.

A Python package for the calculation of spectrograms with optimized time and frequency resolution for application in the analysis of numerical simulations on ultrashort pulse propagation is presented. Gabor’s uncertainty principle prevents both resolutions from being optimal simultaneously for a given window function employed in the underlying short-time Fourier analysis. Our aim is to yield a time–frequency representation of the input signal with marginals that represent the original intensities per unit time and frequency similarly well. As a use-case, we demonstrate the implemented functionality for the analysis of simulations on ultrashort pulse propagation in a nonlinear waveguide.
