Process simulators which imitate the movement of various steelmaking processes using computer are used for investigation of the design of steelmaking plants, operation support and control system design, and are useful in plant engineering and the development of production and control technology.

A 2-dimensional hot-rolling-process simulator, which can simulates the dynamic behavior of thickness distribution and strip wandering in hot rolling process of steel works, is developed. This simulator is useful to design several control systems such as strip profile control, shape control and steering control. Performances of two steering control systems which prevent strip wandering are evaluated by this simulator.

The educational programs on the control engineering and their application technologies at Nippon Steel is introduced in this paper. There are two kind of the educational program, i.e. one for the entire company and the other at each division. These programs help the engineers and researchers to study the advanced control theories and how to apply them.
