5. 200 4;Mbit/s data transmission through 100 4;m of plastic optical fibre with nitride LEDs

Abstract

A data transmission rate of 200 4;Mbit/s through 100 4;m of plastic optical fibre with an InGaN/GaN LED operating at 509 4;nm is reported. Nitride LEDs operating at this wavelength showed lower transmission loss than red LEDs (650 4;nm). These LEDs have low temperature dependence, showing only a 26% drop in coupled power over the temperature range −40 to +70°C.
