The article investigates the coverage of issues related to Ukrainian history and culture in newspapers during the 1941-1943 period of the Nazi occupation. It is noted that the occupation administration granted the newly created local press the right to publish articles on relevant themes. At the same time, the author does not minimize the invasive character of the Nazi occupation and all the atrocities committed during this period on Ukrainian territory, noting that the indoctrination of the local population was among the primary goals of these articles. At the first stage, there was a separation of Ukrainians, especially the younger generation, in their mentality as a distinct nation independent of Bolshevik Russia. The emphasis is placed on the periodicals of the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions as they were more Russified in the first decades of Soviet domination, so these publications allowed local people to read about Ukrainian issues. The focus was on the recent tragic history of the Ukrainian people who experienced it under the Soviet regime in the region. Efforts were made to evoke memories of recent events, such as the Holodomor, the Great Terror, and the collectivization and dispossession of peasants. There were also efforts to remind the older generation of the atrocities of the Bolshevik regime, influencing young Ukrainians. At the same time, there were appeals to heroic Ukrainian history, and information about prominent figures in Ukrainian history and culture was shared. Efforts were made to revive ancient Ukrainian traditions in the lives of ordinary Ukrainians. In conclusion, the author emphasizes the similarity in the use of mass media policies between the Germanfascist occupation period and the modern occupation of parts of the studied regions by Russian troops. However, during 1941-1943, there was an emphasis on presenting reliable facts, whereas the modern occupation period is characterized by the widespread dissemination of misinformation. Even at the most critical moments of history, Rech' consistently paid attention to literature, theater, architecture, painting, science and education. With its wide scope of cultural news, Rech' was "one of the most important liberal organs in the Russian periodical press system", according to contemporary researchers, and remained its most representative and progressive socio-political publication. Now, a century later, the Rech' newspaper deserves recognition as a very important source for the comprehensive study of its period, since it represented a force that in the years 1917–18 prevented the premature death of culture. Alice Meynell's long and acclaimed career as journalist, essayist, and poet was built on a complex relationship with the print marketplace on which her livelihood depended. The 1890s was a watershed decade for Meynell, a period in which her ceaseless journalistic and editorial activity elevated her to a household name. The ways in which she produced and capitalized on that name, through multiply mediated publications and republications, reveal how she battled simultaneously supportive and constraining market imperatives. The article reviews the beginning of Lithuanians' emigration to the USA and the prerequisites for the appearance of the periodical press in exile; it tries to identify the scope of attention devoted to music in newspapers and the way it was influenced by the cultural experience of the editors. The principal object of the research is contributions on the subject of musical life to the Draugas (The Friend) newspaper in the period of 1909-1949. The text considers the state of media studies in late 1920s and early 1930s in former Czechoslovakia. The decades between two world wars were quite fruifful period in the history of Czech reflections on the media, press and journalism. A new academic journal Duch novin [The Spirit of Newspapers] was established in 1928 and was published for four years. The representatives of the journal put together an informal circle and claimed the need of establishing a new field of sociological studies of newspaper and journalism. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the impact of humorous processes on the emergence of modern Portugal, from the onset of the systematic use of those processes in the periodical press, from the publication of Almocreve de Petas (1797-1800) to the issue of O Quinquilheiro in 1835, shortly after the Portuguese civil war. Humor in the periodical press is analyzed from an interdisciplinary perspective and its targets are identified in their political, social and cultural contexts. The nuanced approach allows showing the role of humor in the crystallization and integration of the otherness of its targets - as a phenomenon of the new and the different becomes a butt of a joke its otherness is being acknowledged, thus making the discovery of alterity in the diversity possible. Amongst other aspects under study is the role of humor in the building of public opinion and in the insertion of Portugal in the Western European cultural crossroads. Concurrently, the role of reading and publishing in the global processes of affirmation of written culture and the circulation of periodicals in the European and Transatlantic space are explored. The research also looks into the boundaries of humor and the fine lines between the licit and the illicit, truth and falsehood, serious and risible, as well as oral and written humor forms. Finally, the work is intended to discern the place of humor in the development of printed communication in Portugal during the transition from Absolutism to the Liberal state and to grasp the social and political contradictions of humor in that period.
