Over the past decade, the boron Schiff bases (BOSCHIBAs) have garnered significant attention due to their facile and eco‐friendly synthesis, nonlinear and linear optical properties, and sensitivity in solar cells. Recently, luminescent boron(III) complexes have been successfully employed as emitters in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). The [B(C6F5)2(MeClQ)] complex was synthesized by reacting 5,7‐dichloro‐2‐methylquinoline‐8‐ol with tripentafluorophenylborane, and its structure was determined via single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction (SC‐XRD). The photophysical properties of the compound in various solvents were investigated using UV–Vis and fluorescence spectra in combination with DFT calculations. Analysis based on HOMO‐LUMO energy, emission and absorption spectra, and other parameters indicates that [B(C6F5)2(MeClQ)] exhibits great potential as a blue light emitter in OLEDs.

Herein we report a heterocyclic organic system to be used in dye‐sensitized solar cells. We propose 9 D‐π‐A compounds in with N,N‐diphenyl quinoline‐6‐amine as the electron donor, cyanoacrylic acid as the electron acceptor, and various conjugate systems of thiophene is used as a π‐spacers. The studied substance systems are calculated by density functional theory (DFT) method with 6‐311G(d) basis set. This study focuses on examining the effect of the π bridge on the properties of the molecule. The structural parameters of the molecular geometry were optimized, the HOMO and LUMO energies were calculated and analyzed in detail. In addition, the absorption wavelength, excitation energy, vibration intensity and electron transfer were calculated through the time‐dependent density functional theory (TD‐DFT) method. The result shows that replacing thiophene ring by 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) significantly improved the properties of dye. Compounds B12 and B23 have not only small HOMO‐LUMO gap but also good charge transfer (small reorganization energies) and optical properties (high LHE).

The tantalum oxynitride (TaON) content in preparation process was increased with the melamine and tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5) mass ratios. The Ta2O5nitridation by melamine (C3H6N6) was occured in at 850 °C for 4 hours with various melamine and tantalum pentoxide mass ratios under a nitrogen gas flow. The photocatalytic performance of prepared samples was evaluated by the photoreduction of carbon dioxide into renewable fuel under visible light irradiation. Results show that the obtained photocatalysts exhibited a significant enhanced photocatalytic activity in comparison with pure Ta2O5. This work may be useful for a facile way to synthesize the highly efficient photocatalyst for application in energy conversion.

Ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) will attract a large number of foreign drug companies in the coming years to Vietnam. It is anticipated to bring investment to Vietnam's pharmaceutical industries, lead to increased infrastructure and enable the use of more sophisticated technologies for the discovery, development and manufacture of drugs. However, with respect to pharmaceutical companies, which are producing generic drugs primarily, the availability of biologic will be reduced. Thus, the consequence is, an increase in drug cost resulting in difficulties for patients wishing to procure these drugs. This will be particularly detrimental for developing countries, such as Vietnam and Malaysia.

From the leaves of Xylopia vielana(Annonaceae) the three dimeric guaianes vielanin A–C were isolated and structurally elucidated by mass and NMR spectroscopy as 1–3. The structure of 1contains a bridged ring system formed probably via a Diels–Alder reaction of two different guaiane monomers. Compounds 2and 3represent symmetric cyclobutanes formally generated from two equal guaiane moieties by [2+2] cycloaddition.

A new indole monoterpene alkaloid, named capitelline (1), was isolated from Hedyotis capitellata (Rubiaceae). Its structure was elucidated by spectroscopic data (1H- and 13C-NMR, MS, IR, UV).

The efficacy of Truong Xuan Cao Bang (TXCB), a Vietnamese herbal medicine prescription, on the quality of semen, serum testosterone (TES), and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations in rabbits whose reproductive ability were impaired by fluconazole was investigated. Mature male rabbits were randomly assigned into control (G1), fluconazole (G2), fluconazole and 180 mg/kg/day (G3), and 360 mg/kg/day TXCB (G4) groups. The reaction time (RT), ejaculate volume (EV), sperm concentration (SC), total sperm output (TSO), total sperm motility (TSM), progressive sperm motility (PSM), nonprogressive sperm motility (NPSM), sperm immobility (SIM), dead sperm (DS), and abnormal sperm (AS) levels were determined after TXCB administration. After 60 days, G3 showed a significant increase in serum TES and a significant decrease in the concentrations of serum MDA (SMDA) and seminal plasma MDA (SPMDA) compared with G1, in addition to increase in EV, SC, TSO, TSM, PSM, and serum TES, and decrease in RT, SIM, DS, AS, SMDA, and SPMDA compared with G2. G4 showed a steep rise in EV, SC, and serum TES and a downturn in DS, SMDA, and SPMDA compared with G1, and, compared with G2, a significant increase in EV, SC, TSO, TSM, PSM, and serum TES and a significant decrease in RT, SIM, DS, AS, SMDA, and SPMDA. Taken together, TXCB rehabilitates and simultaneously enhances spermatogenesis in rabbits whose reproductive ability was impaired by fluconazole.

The investigation of leaves of Millettia ichthyochtona afforded a new pyranoisoflavone and a new furanoflavone.

A novel iron-modified biochar (FMBC) derived from rice straw was synthesized using FeCl3 modification for efficient As(V) removal from aqueous solution. FTIR and SEM-EDX analyses were carried out to determine the mechanism involved in the removal process and also demonstrated that Fe had loaded successfully on the surface of modified biochar. The iron-modified biochar showed higher arsenic removal ability than the raw biochar. The iron-modified biochar showed a maximum adsorption with an initial solution pH of 5.0. Moreover, for the tested biochar, the As(V) removal kinetics data were well fitted by the pseudo-second-order model. Furthermore, the As(V) removal data upon being well fitted by the Langmuir model showed the maximal removal capacity of 28.49 mg/g. The simple preparation process and high adsorption performance suggest that the iron-modified biochar derived from rice straw could be served as an effective, inexpensive, and environmentally sustainable adsorbent to replace typical granular activated carbon (AC) for As(III) removal from aqueous solution.
