The levels of heavy metals in the Binhai New Area Dagang industrial park were investigated by analyzing 10 metals (Mn, As, Cu, Pb, Sr, Cr, Cd, Ni, Hg and Zn) in a series of ultraclean samples collected from 30 sites in the DaGang industrial park. Analysis of the pollution conditions and possible pollution causes and trends using comparative methods provides a basis for pollution control. The results showed that the mean concentrations of several heavy metals in the industrial areas were 473.5 (Mn), 38.1 (Pb), 93.4 (Sr), 25.5 (Cr), 17.2 (Ni), 8.3 (Hg), 10.7 (As), and 0.42(Cd) mg·kg-1. Zinc and Cu are necessary nutritional elements; however, their mean concentrations were only 64.4 and 17.6 mg·kg-1, respectively. The concentrations of Hg and Pb were higher than the values reported in a previous study of this area. The concentrations of As and Cd could not be detected in most territories. The soil properties, particularly the organic matter content, were found to be important factors in the distribution of the heavy metals. The heavy metal concentrations in the Dagang industrial park can provide data references for China to curb the environmental pollution of soil in the Binhai New Area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a study that determines the toxicity of the chemical industrial wastewater from Hangu reservoir in Tianjin, China. It notes the identification of various toxicans from the industrial wastewater that came from the aging chemical industrial plant, which was less biodegradable and has complex hazardous substances, affecting the local ecological services in Hangu reservoir and the safety of the nearby residents. It also mentions the two aspects of the treatment in the aging chemical industrial wastewater that aims to ensure the development of the government's Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city collaboration project with Singapore, and the safety of the residents in the area.

The investigation was carried out on source characterization and human health risks associated with n-alkanes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in road dusts from different functional areas in Taiyuan as the Chinese coal capital. The average concentrations of n-alkanes and PAHs ranged from 128.53 to 190.78 g/g and from 10.99 to 28.10 g/g, respectively. N-alkane indexes and diagnostic ratios of PAHs were calculated to identify sources of hydrocarbons. The results showed that n-alkanes mainly derived from petroleum residues with a moderate input of territorial higher plant waxes. PAHs of pyrogenic mainly came from coal and diesel combustion. Risk analyses indicated that 95% Upper Control Limit of Incremental Lifetime Cancer Risk (ILCR) for children and adults exposed to dust-borne PAHs was up to 4.37×10-6 and 5.51×10-6, respectively, which displayed potential cancer risks.
