Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is one of the ultimately invasive procedures for managing a noncompressive torso injury. Since it is less invasive than resuscitative open aortic cross-clamping, its clinical application is expected.

3D stacking technology using TSVs, as well as linewidth shrinking, is crucial for future progress in semiconductor devices. A new i-line exposure tool, the FPA-5510iV, has been developed which provides the functions necessary for implementing TSV processes. This paper reports on Canon's commitment to make advanced TSV processes a reality.

The functions of glycosphingolipids, especially those containing the α-galactosyl epitope, were investigated during the development and differentiation of rat lens. Glycosphingolipids in embryonic lens tissue were mainly composed of neolacto-series glycosphingolipids and sialic acid-containing ganglio-series gangliosides GM3 and GD3. These glycosphingolipids and gangliosides were widely expressed on cell membranes in the lens vesicle and the elongating lens fibers. In particular, the expression of neolacto-series glycosphingolipids with the α-galactosyl epitope was found to be associated with the differentiation and interaction of lens fibers. Glycoproteins with the α-galactosyl epitope was also involved in the elongation of lens fibers. The expression of the glycoproteins was highly specific in elongating lens fibers when these were examined in head sections obtained at various embryonic stages. Thus, the α-galactosyl epitope on glycosphingolipids and glycoproteins appears to be associated with the differentiation and elongation of lens fibers in the rat Evolution-related changes in the expression of carbohydrate antigens are also discussed in relation to the development and cell-to-cell interaction of lens fibers in mammals.

Rat lens was found to contain several neutral and acidic glycosphingolipids in lens epithelia, cortex and nucleus, and showed developmental changes in their content and localization. TLC-immunostaining of gangliosides revealed the enrichment of some ganglio-series gangliosides (GM3, GM1, GD3 and GD1b) in lens epithelia and the presence of GM3 and GD3 in the lens nucleus. Immunohistochemical studies confirmed the distribution of GM3 and GM1 in anterior lens epithelial cells and the cortex, with expression decreasing toward the lens nucleus. Immunoreaction to GD3 was more intense in the lens nucleus than in epithelial cells. In contrast, the expression of neolacto-series glycosphingolipids was restricted to the lens nucleus. In order to investigate the pathological changes of glycosphingolipids in cataract, galactose-induced cataractous lenses were examined. However, no significant changes were observed in the content and composition of glycosphingolipids. In addition, Lewisx epitopes found in human cataractous lenses were not detected in the cataractous lenses of galactosaemic rats and hereditary cataractous Emory mice.

The photoconductivity has been studied in anthracene by irradiation with 50 kV, 0.4 µ sec X-ray pulses. The temperature dependence of hole mobility can be described in terms of a multiple-trapping mechanism; µh=3.46×102T-1.1[1+Nt/Nvexp (??/kT)]-1, where Nt=1.4×1017cm-3and ??=0.19 eV, while electrons represent µe=3.6×102T-1.3, in the range from 316°K to 238°K. The schubweg per unit field is 2.6×10-5cm2/V for holes, while for electrons this value is 1.8×10-5cm2/V at room temperature. The number of collected carriers increases with temperature with the activation energies of 0.02 eV for T?270°K and of ?0.06 eV for T<270°K where carrier recombination is predominant. It is shown that in the broad conductivity state wherein electrons have a long mean free path of ?100Å, the probability for escaping from the attractive coulomb field is more than 4×10-1.
