The article discusses the identity of Ioannes Pannonius, a correspondent of philosopher Marsilio Ficino. The author supports the thesis, suggested by scholar Valery Rees, that Pannonius was a fictitious character created by Ficino as a vehicle for explaining his Platonist-Humanist philosophy. Details on Ficino's beliefs regarding decorous behaviour are presented. The author also looks at various historical figures, such as John of Várad and John Vitéz the Younger, whom scholars have identified with Pannonius.
