Abstract

•A metallographic study of Carthage mint coins (nummi) from the Tomares Hoard (ca. 312 CE) is presented.•The evolution in quaternary basic composition of Carthage mint coins between 197 and 307 is analyzed, as also the correlation between basic components in the alloy.•Trace elements composition and its evolution during the same period are included in the study.•Comparison with previous studies in terms of metallic composition and evolution of basic components and trace elements are provided.
