Globally, breastfeeding has been acknowledged as one of the most effective ways of ensuring the adequate health, development and survival of a child. In 1991, in order to ensure the right start for every infant and to extend the desired support to the postnatal mothers to execute successful breastfeeding, the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) implemented the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). Irrespective of the multiple advantages of baby-friendly hospitals, none of the evaluation studies have identified completely adherent facilities to the 10 steps. To ensure successful implementation and long-term sustainability of the BFHI in different healthcare facilities, different measures have been proposed. To conclude, despite the availability of a definitive evidence of BFHI having a successful impact on different breastfeeding outcomes, only a comprehensive and multisectoral approach can enable every mother and family to give every child the best start in life. Worldwide, over the years, a significant hike in the prevalence of overweight and obesity has been observed among children, adolescents, and adult age-group individuals. In contrast to the previous beliefs that overweight and obesity are a major public health concern in developed countries alone, gradually the problem has shown its presence even in developing countries. The objective of this article is to assess the magnitude of childhood obesity in developing nations, identify the existing barriers, and then propose interventions to counter the public health menace of childhood obesity. Critical analysis of the existing health strategies has revealed significant lacunae in the current policies and shortcomings in different aspects of the health care delivery system. To conclude, it is high time to address the issue of childhood obesity, as its associated aftermaths are proving detrimental not only for individuals and their families, but even for the society and the health sector. The outbreak of Ebola virus disease in West Africa has reminded public health authorities and international health agencies that, despite setting so many health-related goals, in reality there is much disparity in the health standards of people living in different parts of the world. Among multiple parameters attributed in increasing the incidence of the disease, migration and travel plays a crucial role. Two possible explanations — international travel of infectious cases or contacts and movement of people across land borders in affected nations — have been proposed to suggest the contribution of travel/migration in the current outbreak. In order to address this international emergency, the World Health Organization and concerned stakeholders have produced a package of interventions to reduce the caseload in affected nations. To conclude, orientation of people regarding different preventive measures at times of travel and preparedness from authorities can significantly reduce the risk of transmission of Ebola disease across international borders. A disability is a sort of disadvantage that either restricts or prevents the given person in the discharge of the roles/duties that are considered normal for that person. Disabled children belong to one of the most vulnerable and marginalised sections of society and have to deal with multiple challenges in their day-to-day life, especially in developing countries. Owing to the enormous magnitude and global distribution, it is of foremost importance to plan and implement cost-effective strategies to reduce the magnitude of the problem. In fact, a major proportion of etiological factors can be neutralised, if policy-makers can ensure universal implementation of primary prevention strategies well supported with the strengthening of existing infrastructure and a comprehensive welfare policy. In conclusion, programme managers, health care professionals, and society should recognise disabled children’s special needs and hence assist them in all possible ways to facilitate their adaptation to the neighbouring environment.
