KM2A is one of the main sub-arrays of LHAASO, working on gamma ray astronomy and cosmic ray physics at energies above 10 TeV. Detector simulation is the important foundation for estimating detector performance and data analysis. It is a big challenge to simulate the KM2A detector in the framework of Geant4 due to the need to track numerous photons from a large number of detector units (>6000) with large altitude difference (30 m) and huge coverage (1.3 km2). In this paper, the design of the KM2A simulation code G4KM2A based on Geant4 is introduced. The process of G4KM2A is optimized mainly in memory consumption to avoid memory overflow. Some simplifications are used to significantly speed up the execution of G4KM2A. The running time is reduced by at least 30 times compared to full detector simulation. The particle distributions and the core/angle resolution comparison between simulation and experimental data of the full KM2A array are also presented, which show good agreement.

In the framework of the SARAF (Soreq Applied Research Accelerator Facility) project, CEA is in charge of the design, fabrication and commissioning of a superconducting linac accelerating up to 5 mA beams of either protons from 1.3 to 35 MeV or deuterons from 2.6 to 40 MeV. The superconducting Linac is composed of four 5 meter long and 2.1 meter high cryomodules. The first two cryomodules are composed of six or seven accelerating cavities and six superconducting solenoid packages while the two last cryomodules are composed of seven cavities and four solenoid packages. Each solenoid package is composed of a focusing solenoid with its two shielding coils and two pairs of steering coils to control the beam trajectory. The focusing solenoids have been designed to produce 6.31 T at the center while the steering coils generate horizontal and vertical fields of 0.1 T at the same point. The prototype was manufactured in industry and qualified in 2019 at CEA. Then 20 solenoid packages and 2 spares have been manufactured and all tested at 4.45 K before being assembled in the cryomodules. We report here the status of the series production and test of the solenoid packages. The manufacturing difficulties, the magnetic performances of the magnets and the cryomodules assembly and test will also be presented.

The Iseult whole-body MRI delivered its first images in October 2021. The masterpiece of this MRI is an actively shielded NbTi magnet providing a homogeneous magnetic field of 11.7 T within a 90 cm warm bore. A dedicated cryoplant was constructed to cool the magnet at 1.8 K using a superfluid helium bath and it is in nominal operation since March 2019. This paper will present the cryoplant design, as well as the connection of the cryogenic ancillary equipment with the magnet. Estimated thermal losses will be compared with experimental data collected since the beginning of the cooling phase. Then, we will describe the system maintenance and the periodic controls of the various pressurized components performed keeping the continuous nominal operation of the MRI. Finally, we will present the first lessons learned on this unique cryogenic system operation and possible options to improve its reliability.

Abstract: An overview of the historically developed Tokur gold-mining center, which comprises the Malomyr, Verkhnyaya Stoiba, Tokur, and Kharga lode and placer gold clusters of the Jagdy–Selemdzha metallogenic zone in the Amur gold province, is given. Since 1918, approximately 127.2 t of gold has been extracted from the gold mines of this center, mainly from the large Albyn, Tokur, and Malomyr deposits. It is shown that the short-term outlook for the Tokur center is associated with mining at the El’ginskoe and Albyn deposits. Gold prospects, the additional exploration of which may lead to the discovery of new economically mineable lode gold deposits, are listed.

Abstract—: Graphite-like materials, due to the strong anisotropy of the crystal structure, are microscopically different-modular; i.e., they have significantly different elastic resistance to tension and compression at the subatomic level. As a result of microscopically different modularity, the crystallite microdeformations unavoidable in ceramic materials cause large shifts and nonuniform broadening of X-ray lines. Reactor irradiation changes both the magnitude of microdeformations and the microscopically different modularity of graphite-like nanostructured materials. The microscopically different modularity of boron nitride ceramics is analyzed by X-ray line decomposition (00l) using Lorentz functions. In pyrolitic materials (very microscopically different-modular materials), it is necessary to use approximation by the Poisson distribution of X‑ray lines rearranged in dimensionless coordinates (00l). A method for determining the temperature during high-dose (up to 3 × 1023n/cm2) high-temperature (up to 1800 K) reactor irradiation of material science containers using pyrolytic boron nitride monitors is described. The method uses the relationship between the magnitude of induced microscopically different modularity of the material and the irradiation temperature.

Abstract: A description of spaces associated with weighted Cesàro and Copson spaces is presented. The answer is given in the form of sharp formulas for functionals equivalent to the norms of the corresponding associated spaces. All cases of the summation parameter and weight functions are studied.

Introduction: One of main scientific goals of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) is to accurately measure the energy spectra of different cosmic ray compositions around the ‘knee’ region. The Wide Field-of-View (FoV) Cherenkov Telescope Array (WFCTA), which is one of the main detectors of LHAASO and has 18 telescopes, is built to achieve this goal. Multiple telescopes are put together and point to connected directions for a larger FoV. Method: Telescopes are deployed spatially as close as possible, but due to their own size, the distance between two adjacent telescopes is about 10 m. Therefore, the Cherenkov lateral distribution and the parallax between the two telescopes should be considered in the event building process for images crossing over the boundaries of FoVs of the telescopes. An event building method for Cherenkov images measured by multiple telescopes of WFCTA is developed. The performance of the shower measurements using the combined images is evaluated by comparing with showers that are fully contained by a virtual telescope in simulation. Results and conclusion: It is proved that the developed event building process can help to increase the FoV of WFCTA by 30% while maintaining the same reconstruction quality, compared to the separate telescope reconstruction method.

Purpose: Observation of high energy and very high emission from Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) is crucial to study the gigantic explosion and the underline processes. With a large field-of-view and almost full duty cycle, the Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA), a sub-array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), is appropriate to monitor the very high energy emission from unpredictable transients such as GRBs. Method: Nevertheless, the main issue for an extensive air shower array is the high energy threshold which limits the horizon of the detector. To address this issue a new trigger method is developed in this article to lower the energy threshold of  WCDA for GRB observation. Result: The proposed method significantly improves the detection efficiency of WCDA for gamma-rays around the GRB direction at 10-300 GeV. The sensitivity of the WCDA for GRB detection with the new trigger method is estimated. The achieved sensitivity of the quarter WCDA array above 10 GeV is comparable with that of Fermi-LAT. The data analysis process and corresponding fluence upper limit for GRB 190719C is presented as an example.

Cryogenic pulsating heat pipes (PHP), also termed oscillating heat pipes, are passive thermal links that transfer heat by oscillatory motion of two-phase cryogen confined in serpentine-shaped capillary tubes. It is composed of three sections, namely, the condenser (cold sink), the evaporator (heat source) and the adiabatic part that can range from several centimetres to few metres. In spite of longer lengths, PHPs hold an advantage that their weight does not radically increase in comparison to counterparts like metallic thermal straps. The aim is to present cryogenic PHPs as one of the potential thermal links aiding in distant cooling of superconducting devices from active cryocoolers. A 0.4 m long neon PHP with 1 mm capillary tube diameter has been recently developed characterized by one of the highest thermal conductance reported till date both in vertical and horizontal orientation. An innovative modification in the construction of PHP evaporator is showcased in this article. This would considerably enhance the flexibility of PHPs in terms of their employment geometrically within the targeted application. Pilot experimental results for neon PHP coupled with the altered evaporator is presented for heat load up to 18 W.

The extension of the cosmic-ray spectrum beyond 1 petaelectronvolt (PeV; 1015electronvolts) indicates the existence of the so-called PeVatrons—cosmic-ray factories that accelerate particles to PeV energies. We need to locate and identify such objects to find the origin of Galactic cosmic rays1. The principal signature of both electron and proton PeVatrons is ultrahigh-energy (exceeding 100 TeV) γ radiation. Evidence of the presence of a proton PeVatron has been found in the Galactic Centre, according to the detection of a hard-spectrum radiation extending to 0.04 PeV (ref. 2). Although γ-rays with energies slightly higher than 0.1 PeV have been reported from a few objects in the Galactic plane3–6, unbiased identification and in-depth exploration of PeVatrons requires detection of γ-rays with energies well above 0.1 PeV. Here we report the detection of more than 530 photons at energies above 100 teraelectronvolts and up to 1.4 PeV from 12 ultrahigh-energy γ-ray sources with a statistical significance greater than seven standard deviations. Despite having several potential counterparts in their proximity, including pulsar wind nebulae, supernova remnants and star-forming regions, the PeVatrons responsible for the ultrahigh-energy γ-rays have not yet been firmly localized and identified (except for the Crab Nebula), leaving open the origin of these extreme accelerators.

Purpose: The main scientific goal of LHAASO-WCDA is to survey gamma-ray sources with energy from 100 GeV to 30 TeV. To observe high-energy shower events, especially to measure the energy spectrum of cosmic rays from 100 TeV to 10 PeV, a dynamic range extension system (WCDA++) is designed to use a 1.5-inch PMT with a dynamic range of four orders of magnitude for each cell in WCDA-1. Method: The dynamic range is extended by using these PMTs to measure the effective charge density in the core region of air shower events, which is an important parameter for identifying the composition of primary particles. Result and Conclusion: The system has been running for more than one year. In this paper, the details of the design and performance of WCDA++ are presented.

Estimates of the norms of spaces associated to weighted first-order Sobolev spaces with various weight functions and summation parameters are established. As the main technical tool, boundedness criteria for the Hardy–Steklov integral operator with variable limits of integration in Lebesgue spaces on the real axis are used.

The weighted inequality in Lebesgue norms with bilinear Hardy–Steklov operators is characterized.

Criteria for the boundedness of sublinear integral two-kernel operators of iterated type on cones of monotone functions in Lebesgue spaces on the real semiaxis are given.

This paper presents the results of the recording of stars under daylight conditions, using video cameras with a silicon photodetector array. It is shown that the SNR increases as the depth of the potential well of a pixel increases. The RT-1000DC video camera, with a potential well of capacity 170 thousand electrons, and the BCA-304 video camera, with frame summation up to an effective potential capacity of 600 thousand electrons, chosen after preliminary testing, made it possible under conditions of typical daylight turbulence of the atmosphere in the northern hemisphere of the sky to observe low-brightness stars (7^m–8^m) on level terrain.

The Andreev reflection spectra of high-quality superconducting Sn1–xInxTe crystals with critical temperature Tc= 3.6–3.8 K were examined. The two-band nature of the superconducting state of this compound was established. The energy gaps have s-symmetry and were measured to be 2Δ1/kTc= 3.5 ± 0.9 and 2Δ2/kTc= 7 ± 1. Neither of the contacts with a resistance of 1.5–23 Ω revealed a peak at zero voltage typical of the topological superconducting state.

The geological–structural features and gold-potential perspective of the Tokur ore–placer cluster in the Amur Province have been studied. This ore–placer cluster is a syncline composed of Paleozoic blackshale sequence, which is cut through by Late Paleozoic and Late Mesozoic intrusions. A granitoid massif is suggested at the depth on the basis of geophysical data. The cluster is distinguished by high productivity. Approximately 37 t gold from ore deposits, primarily from the Tokur deposit, and 60 t from placers have been mined out. The Tokur deposit is compared with the Natalka and Degdekan deposits from the Yana–Kolyma Province. Perspectives of the cluster area for large gold–quartz deposits and technogenic gold placers have been estimated.

A precise characterization of inequalities in weighted Lebesgue spaces with positive quasilinear integral operators of iterative type on the half-axis is given. All cases of positive integration parameters are treated, including the case of supremum. Applications to the solution of the well-known problem of the boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator in weighted Lorentz $ \Gamma$-spaces are given. Bibliography: 41 titles.

This paper describes results of GOL-PET experiments on subterahertz (0.1-0.5 THz) emission from a magnetized plasma column during passing of a high-current (~ 10 kA) relativistic (~ 0.6 MeV) electron beam. The subterahertz radiation is generated in the plasma due to high-level turbulence induced by two-stream instability of the electron beam. These experiments are carried out at the specialized GOL-3T device. For the plasma density range 1014 - 1015 cm-3, we have studied emission dynamics from the plasma column in its transverse and longitudinal directions. The spectral composition and polarization of the radiation was also investigated.

Optimal (minimal) Banach spaces containing given cones of monotone or quasiconcave functions on the semiaxis from weighted Lebesgue spaces are described. Exact formulas for the norm of the optimal space are presented. All cases of the summation parameter are studied.

This paper describes results of studies on application of high current (1-10 kA) relativistic electron beams to generate millimeter and subterahertz (sub-THz) radiation in two ways. The first one is realized at the ELMI-device where the scheme of a free electron maser (FEM) with a sheet electron beam is applied for the case of a planar two-beam-channel geometry. The second way is based on emission of sub-THz radiation from plasmas with turbulence induced by a strong relativistic electron beam. These experiments are carried out at the GOL-3 facility. We present experimental results obtained at these two devices and briefly describe their theoretical analysis.

This paper presents the results of experimental studies of the action of laser radiation on InSb-based IR photodetector arrays. It is shown that there are two types of response of the photodetector to laser action: nonlinear propagation of laser noise over the entire surface of the array and persistence of the image of the laser beam, as a function of the characteristics of the laser radiation. It is experimentally found that the persistent image of the laser beam varies in signal amplitude of the dark current in illuminated photodiodes, depending on the irradiance of the focal-plane array and the irradiation time (the exposure dose of the irradiation).

The geological and structural features and gold potential of the Yasny lode-placer cluster in Amur province have been investigated. The lode-placer cluster is an intrusive domal uplift elongated in the nearmeridional direction and surrounded by Neogene loose sediments. The cluster comprises placers that yielded 15 t gold mined from there and small occurrences of gold-quartz and gold-base-metal lodes. Association of native gold with cinnabar in the Yasny Creek placer allows us to forecast a new source of gold-mercury mineralization in the basin of this creek, which could be compared with the Kyuchyus deposit in Yakutia. Gold nuggets 79 kg in total weight were mined from Gar-2 River placer. They are comparable in weight and association with quartz to the world’s largest Holtermann Plate nugget from Australia. Gold-quartz lodes have been forecasted in the basin of the Gar-2 Creek.

This paper surveys results related to the reduction of integral inequalities involving positive operators in weighted Lebesgue spaces on the real semi-axis and valid on the cone of monotone functions, to certain more easily manageable inequalities valid on the cone of non-negative functions. The case of monotone operators is new. As an application, a complete characterization for all possible integrability parameters is obtained for a number of Volterra operators. Sub-mm radiation can be generated by conversion of plasma waves into electromagnetic (EM) radiation at strong Langmuir turbulence (LT) via the two-stream instability induced by a high current relativistic electron beam (REB). A plasmon scattering on plasma density fluctuations produces EM emission at the plasma frequency ωp(“ωpprocess”). Nonlinear plasmon-plasmon merging results in the generation of photons nearby the 2nd harmonic of the plasma frequency 2ωp(2ωpprocess”). For plasma densities 1020-1021m-3, these frequencies are in the range of sub-mm waves: 180-566 GHz. The power density of sub-mm-wave emission from plasmas in the multi-mirror trap GOL-3 (BINP) during injection of a 10-μs-REB at plasma densities ne≈ (1-5)·1020m-3, electron temperatures Te≈ 1-3 keV and magnetic field B≈ 4 T was measured to be up to 1 kW/cm3in the frequency band above 100 GHz.To calculate the second harmonic emission power from turbulent magnetized plasma we use the model of coalescence of two upper-hybrid waves. Results of these calculations and measured power are in good coincidence in the investigated area of plasma density.

Novel technology of electron beam generation for plasma heating in GOL-3 was developed and for the first time used in the experiment. The distinctive features of the new beam are non-relativistic energy, medium power and sub-ms duration. The experiments were done at the following beam and plasma parameters: ~100 keV, ~10 MW, >100 μs, ~1020m-3. The beam was safely transported through the 13-m-long deuterium-filled multiple-mirror solenoid. The plasma was created and then heated by the beam. Main physical task for the reported experiments was to reach quasi-stationary plasma conditions during the long-pulse beam injection.

Grothite—a rare Al- and F-rich variety of titanite—was identified in two different gold-bearing mineral assemblages of the Berezitovy gold-base-metal deposit, Upper Amur Region, Russian Far East. Grothite is associated with quartz, orthoclase, chlorite, muscovite, tourmaline, almandine-spessartine garnet, ilmenite, pyrophanite, magnetite, fluorapatite, and sulfides. Grothite forms numerous scattered lamellar aggregates 20–100 μm in size with a relatively homogeneous structure. The lamellae grow in chlorite or between chlorite and orthoclase. According to microprobe analyses, variations in major elements of grothite are as follows (wt %): 30.56–34.07 SiO2, 7.91–12.71 Al2O3, 22.83–28.29 TiO2, 23.55–29.21 CaO, 0.52–4.25 FeO, and 2.19–6.16 F. It is suggested that grothite appeared in the gold-bearing mineral assemblages of the Berezitovy deposit due to the specifics of the primary composition of the host rocks and physicochemical conditions of the fluid regime at the final stage of deposit formation.

This paper reports a study of the speckle images of a scattered laser beam in the focal plane of a receiver objective, experimentally recorded by a photodetector array, as a function of the laser-pulse energy, the illumination angle of the objective, and the spectral composition of the radiation. Regularities are revealed that connect the statistical parameters of the images under various irradiation conditions. It is shown that the speckles obey Gaussian statistics only at small angles of illumination of the receiver objective.

To locate actively geodesic satellites stationed on the low Earth orbits lasers are often used via illumination of the satellites and detection of the laser reflected radiation. But, the lasers can strongly affect electronic devices of the satellites because of scattering of the laser radiation inside its optical systems. To exclude the influence of laser radiation on operating capabilities of the satellites, the characteristic properties of scattered laser radiation in a plane of receiver optical systems are studied in the paper. It is known that scattered laser radiation fields have a speckled character and registered speckles depend on both the laser and photo detector array spectral and power characteristics. In the paper, the laser radiation recorded experimentally in a focal plane of optical system by using photo detector array is investigated at various conditions of the array illumination. Theoretical analysis of the speckles is carried out to determine such characteristics of speckled images as dispersion and covariance and its dependence on the illumination conditions.

Abstract: Ferrihydrite nanoparticles (2–5 nm in size) produced by bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca in the course of biomineralization of iron salt solutions from a natural medium exhibit unique magnetic properties: they are characterized by both the antiferromagnetic order inherent in a bulk ferrihydrite and the spontaneous magnetic moment due to the decompensation of spins in sublattices of a nanoparticle. The magnetic susceptibility enhanced by the superantiferromagnetism effect and the magnetic moment independent of the magnetic field provide the possibility of magnetically controlling these natural objects. This has opened up the possibilities for their use in nanomedicine and bioengineering. The results obtained from measurements of the magnetic properties of the ferrihydrite produced by Klebsiella oxytoca in its two main crystalline modifications are reported, and the data obtained are analyzed theoretically. This has made it possible to determine numerical values of the magnetic parameters of real biomineral nanoparticles.

This paper describes a picosecond laser system based on a hybrid CO_2 laser, using optically controlled semiconductor switches with a pulse width from 100 ps to 300 ns, followed by conversion of the radiation in nonlinear crystals by means of second-harmonic generation. Silver selenogallate AgGaSe_2 and zinc germanium diphosphide ZnGeP_2 are used as nonlinear crystals. Two-stage conversion of the radiation of a picosecond CO_2 laser with wavelength 9.4-10.6 μm into laser radiation with wavelengths 4.7-5.3 μm is carried out in the apparatus with an efficiency of 0.3%-0.5%, while 4.7-5.3-μm radiation is converted into 2.4-2.65-μm radiation with an efficiency of 8%. The overall conversion efficiency is 4×10^−4 or 0.04% for an output pulse energy up to 35 μJ.

Abstract: The results of the long-term recording of thermal neutron flux near the Earth’s surface with the use of an unshielded scintillation thermal-neutron detector are presented. The data obtained indicate the presence of periodic variations in the thermal neutron flux with the lunar diurnal and the lunar monthly periods. A hypothesis about the existence in the Earth’s crust of radon-neutron tidal variations in the concentration of thermal neutrons, correlated with the Moon’s phases and which have the gravitational origin, is formulated and confirmed experimentally. A simple mathematical model is proposed, which satisfactorily describes the observed variations. The case of the anomalous behavior of thermal neutrons is presented, which correlates with the high local seismic activity.

Abstract: In this paper, we present the results of modeling of El Niño events using a simple model of a classical oscillator with decay under external forcing. The sea surface temperature in the East Pacific and the mean thermocline depth in the Equatorial Pacific correspond to the roles of the momentum and position, respectively. The external forcing of the system is determined by two factors: the short-period meridional mass fluctuations in the Pacific sector of the Southern Ocean due to the joint effect of the atmospheric variability over the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, bottom topography, and coastlines; and the variability of western winds in the tropics. Under such conditions, oscillations of El Niño type arise in the model as a result of propagation of signals generated in the Southern Ocean (due to the fluctuations of meridional transport fluxes and the variability of western winds in the tropics). These signals propagate over the Equatorial Pacific as fast wave processes. It is shown that external forcing is the main factor in establishing the oscillation pattern of the model characteristics variability.

AbstractThe paper reviews recent experimental results from GOL-3. Currently efforts are focused on further development of a physical database for multiple-mirror confinement systems and also on an upgrade of plasma heating systems of GOL-3 device.In general, current GOL-3 parameters demonstrate good prospects of a multiple-mirror trap as a fusion reactor.

Abstract: The article deals with the influence of wind and atmospheric pressure on the barotropic variability of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC). This effect is studied using a global barotropic model under idealized and realistic atmospheric forcings. The results of barotropic modeling demonstrate that variations in the wind forcing over the ACC, together with the effects of the topography and coastline, lead to the variability in the meridional water flux in the Southern Ocean. The variability of these fluxes is negatively correlated with the wind strength over the ACC. A possible link between the short-period variability of the water flux in the Pacific sector of the Southern Ocean and El Niño is demonstrated using 3D ocean modeling and correlation analysis. It is shown that the variability of the meridional water flux caused by atmospheric perturbations over the ACC can lead to short-period density anomalies in the Southern Ocean north of 47°S, which later can be transferred to low latitudes by means of the wave mechanism described in [15] and strongly influence the tropical region.

The paper presents peculiarities of organization and performance of activities on disposition of the high level activity radwaste repository located at the radwaste disposal site of the Russian Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” in Moscow. The process of the radwaste extraction from the repository is described in comparison with similar activities in other old repositories. Tools and equipment used for the radwaste extraction from the repository are listed. Conventional construction machines equipped with a hydraulic hammer or a clamshell were used for destruction of the concrete-encased radwaste mass and extraction of low-level radwaste. Intermediate- and high-level radwaste was extracted by remotely controlled robots operating inside the shielding structure. Gamma visor was used for detection of high-level radwaste or fragments in the mass concrete being destroyed and for pointing remotely controlled robots accordingly. The paper describes peculiarities of radiation monitoring in the course of operations on disposition of the repository. For rapid detection of changes in radiation conditions in the working areas, there was used a gamma locator with on-line transmission of its data to a PC and their processing. The same measuring and extraction equipment were used for remediation of high-level radwaste repository at the Gas Plant complexes.

This paper discusses a nontraditional optical shaping system for generating extended plasma channels in the atmosphere, using pulsed CO_2 lasers and consisting of a convex mirror axicon with a rectilinear generatrix and a retranslating layout composed of two spherical optical elements. The system makes it possible to form the waist of a Bessel beam at a significant distance from the axicon. An analytical model is proposed for designing the developed optical system.

The Dambuki ore cluster of the Upper Amur region is characterized by numerous and high-grade gold placers. A few small primary deposits and occurrences of gold-quartz type were formerly considered to be the main source of placers. However, the study of widespread Early Cretaceous Cu- and Ni-bearing ultramafic intrusions has shown that gold occurring in primary Cu-Ni ores and products of their weathering practically does not differ from placer gold in morphology, fineness, or geochemical features. In both cases, elements typical of Cu-Ni ore (Cu, Fe, Pd, Ni, etc.) are detected as impurities of gold particles. These data indicate that the Au-and Pt-bearing Cu-Ni ore mineralization may be the main source of placer gold. This ore mineralization is genetically related to small pyroxenite-cortlandite sills and dikes, abundant in the Dambuki ore cluster. The primary gold-quartz deposits and occurrences also contributed to the placers, but their part was rather small.

Recent results of the experiments at GOL-3 facility are presented. In present configuration of the device, plasma with a density of 1014[divided by]1016cm-3 is confined in a 12-meter-long solenoid, which comprises 55 corrugation cells with mirror ratio Bmax/Bmin=4.8/3.2 T. The plasma in the solenoid is heated up to 2-4 keV temperature by a high power relativistic electron beam (˜1 MeV, ˜30 kA, ˜8 μs, ˜120 kJ) injected through one of the ends. Mechanism of experimentally observed fast ion heating, issues of plasma stability and confinement are discussed.

The RF-LLK optoelectronic active-passive system is intended for obtaining and forming passive IR brightness images (wavelength range 8-14?µm) and laser brightness and range images (working wavelength 1.54?µm) of the background-and-target situation. Flight testing showed high information content of the combined images of the passive IR and laser (brightness and range-measuring) channels.

Abstract: The Archean provinces and lithotectonic complexes of the Baltic (Fennoscandian) Shield are considered. The supracrustal complexes are classified by age: <3.2, 3.10–2.90, 2.90–2.82, 2.82–2.75, and 2.75–2.65 Ga. The data on Archean granitoid complexes and metamorphic events are mentioned briefly, whereas the recently found fragments of the Archean ophiolitic and eclogite-bearing associations are discussed in more detail. The Paleoarchean rocks and sporadic detrital grains of Paleoarchean zircons have been found in the Baltic Shield; however, the relatively large fragments of the continental crust likely began to form only in the Mesoarchean (3.2–3.1 Ga ago), when the first microcontinents, e.g., Vodlozero and Iisalmi, were created. The main body of the continental crust was formed 2.90–2.65 Ga ago. The available information on the Paleoarchean complexes of the Baltic Shield is thus far too scanty for judgment on their formation conditions. The geologic, petrologic, isotopic, and geochronological data on the Meso-and Neoarchean lithotectonic complexes testify to their formation in the geodynamic settings comparable with those known in Phanerozoic: subduction-related (ensialic and ensimatic), collisional, spreading-related, continental rifting, and the setting related to mantle plumes.
