The rapid renewal of land use and land cover (LULC) maps using remote-sensing technologies constitutes a sine qua non for judicious land resource management at both regional and national scales. Existing research conducted on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform has overwhelmingly focused on pixel-based LULC classification techniques, often neglecting the role of spatial context via neighbouring valuable pixel information. Remarkably, little attention has been paid to the amalgamation of 3 × 3 neighbouring pixels into a three-dimensional space–spectrum array that can emulate the functionalities of object-based image analysis. In this study, we developed a novel integrated model consisting of a space–spectrum array (SSA) model based on 3 × 3 neighbouring pixels, a tile model based on random forest, and a multiple probabilistic classification model (SSA-TPRF) on the GEE platform to generate a LULC map with high overall accuracy (OA) for Ordos in 2020. Three bimonthly median value images were synthesised and feature collections, including spectral bands and vegetation indices, were constructed. Five experimental groups (EXP1–EXP5) were used to assess the different model combinations. Subsequent validation procedures employed abundant reference samples and compared the results with those of the three extant LULC mapping products. The results showed that EXP2, which was grounded in the tile-based model, yielded an OA of 87.53%, surpassing that of EXP1 (84.99%), which employed a traditional overall model. Furthermore, EXP3, which integrated the multiple probabilistic classification model with the traditional overall model, exhibited an OA of 85.19%, exceeding that of EXP1. A comparison of the five experimental groups using the four regional spatial subtlety features revealed that the EXP5, employing the SSA-TPRF model, successfully decreased the salt and pepper noise. The OA of six tile sizes ranging from 10 km to 100 km were compared, and the highest OA (88.35%) was achieved at a tile size of 25 km. The resultant LULC map in Ordos, derived from the SSA-TPRF model, showed superior OA compared with the extant LULC products. This study thus contributes to a versatile and scalable model within the GEE framework, offering avenues for facile adaptation and recurrent application across disparate geographical locations and temporal settings. The adaptability of this model is particularly advantageous for developing nations and regions typified by diverse landscapes, thereby catalysing the iterative updating of LULC maps through advanced remote-sensing paradigms. For several years, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies have been improving. However, some hurdles remain that slow down the distribution of VR and AR devices, such as head-mounted display (HMD), and related consumer content. One issue is VR motion sickness, which has been experienced by users using 360 degree VR content via HMD. This paper discusses the related international standardization work that classifies the factors causing VR sickness, and proposes the process for VR sickness level evaluation. Among the factors causing VR sickness, many research institutes regard minimizing MTP (Motion-to-Photon) latency as the key enabler to mitigate VR sickness. Thus, this paper introduces research trends of MTP latency measurement and MTP latency mitigation. This paper categorizes the research on MTP latency measurement into 2 categories of hardware-based approach and software code-level approach. The 2 approaches have different pros and cons depending on use-case, purpose, and architecture of each multimedia system. The pros and cons are addressed in this paper. Additionally, the research on mitigating MTP latency with diverse strategies such as proactive computing, caching, and edge server technology is explained, and compared to conventional technologies, shows improved performance. This paper proposes a novel algorithm for dynamic tile partitioning to achieve the optimal workload balance for parallel processing architectures in just-in-time HEVC encoding. Tile boundaries are dynamically shifted depending on the tile cost, a value that denotes predicted computational complexity of a single tile in a frame. The overall cost of a tile is determined as a combination of costs of three computationally most expensive and resource-hungry operations in HEVC encoding: prediction, transformation, and entropy coding. The algorithm aims at exploiting different types of processing architectures, from homogeneous multicore CPU architectures to heterogeneous architectures in the actual conditions in which streaming servers operate. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms uniform tiling, by up to 5.5% in processing time, while maintaining the same video quality and bitrate. Compared to the state-of-the-art algorithms, the proposed algorithm achieves up to 8.85% speedup depending on the number of videos that are being encoded concurrently on a video streaming server. The article evaluates the architectural design of Tarot Garden in Tuscany, Italy that was designed by artist Niki de Saint Phalle.

The article focuses on the research on the conservation of The Tarot Garden, a sculpture park by artist Niki de Saint Phalle. It discusses the history of sculpture park in Tuscany, Italy. It discusses the observation on the decorative tiles in the park due to the influence of environmental conditions such as tiles cracking, gold glaze abrasion and tile surface washout, how the park does not want to replace the tiling and instead wants to increase the lifespan of it. It also talks about using the materials like SIOX-5, a nano-silica sol-gel; Syton X30, an aqueous silica acid dispersion.

In this work an innovative hybrid solar panel is presented. The panel is particularly resistant. It is walkable and can be used as a tile to cover places, terraces and roofs. It consists in a photovoltaic cell layer placed in contact with an aluminium heat sink which transfers heat from the cells to a water flow. The lower part of the heat sink and the hydraulic and electrical connectors are encapsulated in an opaque and insulating resin. The upper part and the cells are covered with a transparent resin. The heat sink consists in an aluminium block in which some channels and the input and output plena are created. In the prototype version of the panel, a circular section has been assigned to the channels. Some preliminary results are presented, which have been obtained on the hybrid panel prototype. In particular the efficiency of the photovoltaic cells has been investigated by changing the water temperature and flow under different solar conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Porous-ceramic, thermal protection systems were used heavily on the Orbiter, and they are currently being used on the next generation of US manned spacecraft, Orion. These systems insulate reentry critical components of a spacecraft against the intense thermal environments of atmospheric reentry. Additionally, these materials are highly exposed to space environment hazards like solid particle impacts. This paper discusses impact studies up to 10km/s on nominally 8 lb/ft3 alumina-fiber-enhanced-thermal-barrier (AETB8) tiles coated with a toughened-unipiece-fibrous-insulation/reaction-cured-glass layer (TUFI/RCG). A first principles impact model that describes projectile dispersion is described that provides excellent agreement with observations over a broad range of impact velocities, obliquities and projectile materials. Because residential roof fires remain a life-threatening danger to residential homeowners in the United States, we describe in detail a national fire prevention program for reducing residential roof fires by use of an Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) and National Fire Protection Association Class A fire rated roof system. This Class A system should comply with the test requirements for fire resistance of roof coverings, as outlined in UL 790 or in ASTM International (ASTM) E-108. Both the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturer's Association (ARMA) and the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) have set up guidelines for selecting a new roof for the homeowner. Class A, fiber-glass-based asphalt roofing shingles represent an overwhelming share of the United States residential roofing market, and, as such, the Class A rated roofing system remains an excellent alternative to wood shingles and shakes. Fortunately, the Class A fire rating is available for certain wood shingle products that incorporate a factory-applied, fire resistant treatment. However, in this circumstance, wood products labeled as Class B shakes or shingles must be installed over spaced or solid sheathing that have been covered either with one layer of ¼ in. (6.4 mm) thick noncombustible roof board, or with one layer of minimum 72-lb. fiber-glass-based mineral surfaced cap sheet, or with another specialty roofing sheet to obtain the Class A fire rating. Clay, tile, slate, and metal have been assigned Class A fire ratings in the codes (but often without testing). These alternative roofing materials are often considerably more expensive. Proper application, ventilation, and insulation of roofing systems are required to prevent heat and moisture buildup in the attic, which can damage the roofing system, making it more susceptible to water leakage as well as ignition in the event of a fire. This thesis develops the study of carving art in the private chapel of the archpriestships in Lamego and Tarouca because there have been no similar work till nowadays in this region. In our work we present the photo research and we study the decorative elements found in the altars, as well as their structure, concerning to the classification of the epoch and style of the retables, among the 17th and 19th centuries. Here we can also see some models inspired in the art treaties of the time, and the appliance in the private spaces of the same solutions as those in the carving of the churches. We also mention the laws from council of Trent and its implementation in the region. These facts brought to the altarpiece the primordial importance to the sacred space. This led to its bigger development. We also refer the local socio economic context, emphasizing the portrait of the chapels owners and their economic power, chiefly owing to the Vinho de Lamego. The climate and the landscape of this region, mainly in agriculture, were fundamental to the income of the families, and to the location of the chapels here placed in maps along this area. The high number of the chapels built here shows the faith and the importance of the carving art for those people. We refer the principal invocations found there and their causes. We mention the majorat establishment, its origins, its rules, when the religious character joined the noble one. Painting and tile in the chapels, as complementary arts of the retable, were a very important solution for its emphasis.
