A laboratory grade electrical photovoltaic simulator system is presented in the paper offering a viable alternative for simulating direct sunlight effects in indoor experiments. In order to validate the photovoltaic model for a single cell, the simulated characteristics were compared against the selected cell's datasheet. The SEPIC converter was chosen for its characteristics that it can cover a wide range of output voltage, including its good behavior near short circuit conditions. The SEPIC Simulink model was developed and validated by PSPICE simulation. Using the SEPIC transfer characteristics the achievable resolution has been verified and the tracking algorithm has been detailed which follows the I-V curves of the simulated solar array in different load conditions.
