Frequent uncertain falls is one of the common cause of injury among elderly adults and persons suffering from the neurological disorder. It will be costlier to go through $24\times 7$ medical monitoring if we monitor a person suffering from the early stage of the neurological disorder. An “uncertain” action classification model can be a less costly and easily scalable. It can help to regularly monitor a person suffering from neurological declines and how frequent it relapse. In this article, we propose a video-based action recognition with fall detection architecture, FallNet, which learns the features of uncertain actions related to day-to-day activities. FallNet first incorporates semantic supervision using the per-class weight of uncertain action through class-wise weighted focal loss. It addresses both the class imbalance problem and the weak interclass separability issue. We design a joint training model to train the overall architecture efficiently in an end-to-end manner. We utilize benchmark data sets, OOPS, HMDB51, and Kinetics-600, for experimentation that has less falling action videos. Therefore, we have collected videos to create a data set, denoted by FallAction, that consists of different 15 falling action classes with an average of 100 videos per class. The proposed network gain an accuracy of 13.2% in OOPs, 2% in HMDB51, and 0.2% in Kinetics-600 data set.

Introduction: In the present research, erythromycin estolate loaded in-situ gel was formulated and evaluated for blepharitis in order to improve its therapeutic efficacy, precorneal residence time of the system and to enhance the ocular bioavailability. Materials and Methods: The developed formulation was characterized by several parameters viz. FTIR, clarity, pH, gelation temperature, rheological studies, drug content, in vitro drug release studies, transcorneal permeation studies, bioadhesion studies, isotonicity and stability studies. Results: The optimized formulation exhibited non-fickian release diffusion with a sustained release of drug 82.76 ± 0.94% up to 8h and drug content 93.64%. Isotonicity revealed that the formulation was isotonic in nature and there was no shrinkage and busting of cells. Bioadhesion study was performed to check the adherence of the prepared in situ gel to the corneal surface for 4h. Ex vivo transcorneal permeation was observed to be significantly higher when compared with market eye drops. Histopathological studies were conducted to confirm the presence of normal ocular surface tissues by maintaining their morphological structures without causing damage to the tissues. The formulation was nonirritant as confirmed by the HET-CAM test. Stability studies and accelerated stability studies were conducted for 13 weeks and 26 weeks respectively and formulations were analyzed for the visual appearance, pH, viscosity, gelling capacity, drug content and in vitro drug release and results showed no change in the formulations. Conclusion: The formulation was therapeutically efficacious, sterile, stable and provided controlled release over a period of time. The developed system could be a viable alternative to conventional eye drops for treatment of various ocular diseases.

AbstractIndia has served as a gateway between continents, with waves of human migration leaving rich cultural and linguistic diversity in their wake. Studies of genetic variation provide inferences about the nature and intensity of forces that have modulated our evolutionary course. The researchers analyzed genetic diversity using 5 genetic markers (ABO, MN, Rh, Se and tasters/non-tasters) in seven populations sampled from Maharashtra, Goa (western coastal zone) and Odisha (eastern coastal zone) of India. The genetic distance estimated by the DISPAN program revealed that geographic segregation has led to genetic divergence among the population of similar ethnicity while population inhabiting same geographical region had higher genetic affinity despite their ethnic origin. ABO locus among all showed maximum genetic divergence between the populations. However, more studies referring to the coastal populations of India could provide new insights into the processes of admixture, selection and drift which lead to population dispersal and differentiation.

The antimicrobial resistant strains of several pathogens are major culprits of hospital-acquired nosocomial infections. An active and urgent action is necessary against these pathogens for the development of unique therapeutics. The cysteine biosynthetic pathway or genes (that are absent in humans) involved in the production of L-cysteine appear to be an attractive target for developing novel antibiotics. CysE, a Serine Acetyltransferase (SAT), catalyzes the first step of cysteine synthesis and is reported to be essential for the survival of persistence in several microbes including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Structure determination provides fundamental insight into structure and function of protein and aid in drug design/discovery efforts. This review focuses on the overview of current knowledge of structure function, regulatory mechanism, and potential inhibitors (active site as well as allosteric site) of CysE. Despite having conserved structure, slight modification in CysE structure lead to altered the regulatory mechanism and hence affects the cysteine production. Due to its possible role in virulence and vital metabolism of pathogens makes it a potential target in the quest to develop novel therapeutics to treat multi-drug-resistant bacteria.

ABSTRACTBackground: Assessment of cognitive development is essential to identify children with faltering developmental attainment and monitor the impact of interventions. A key barrier to achieving these goals is the lack of standardized, scalable tools to assess cognitive abilities.Objective: This study aimed to develop a tablet-based gamified assessment of cognitive abilities of 3-year-old children which can be administered by non-specialist field workers.Methods: Workshops among domain experts, literature search for established and gamified paradigms of cognitive assessments and rapid review of mobile games for 3-year-old children was done to conceptualize games for this study. Formative household visits (N = 20) informed the design and content of the games. A cross-sectional pilot study (N = 100) was done to assess feasibility of the tool and check if increasing levels of difficulty and the expected variability between children were evident in game metrics. In-depth interviews (N = 9) were conducted with mothers of participating children to assess its acceptability.Results: Six cognitive domains were identified as being integral to learning – divided attention, response inhibition, reasoning, visual form perception and integration and memory. A narrative, musical soundtrack and positive reinforcement were incorporated into the tool to enhance participant engagement. Child performance determined level timers and difficulty levels in each game. Pilot data indicate that children differ in their performance profile on the tool as measured by the number of game levels played and their accuracy and completion time indicating that it might be possible to differentiate children based on these metrics. Qualitative data suggest high levels of acceptability of the tool amongst participants.Conclusions: A DEvelopmental assessment on an E-Platform (DEEP) has been created comprising distinct games woven into a narrative, which assess six cognitive domains, and shows high levels of acceptability and generates metrics which may be used for validation against gold standard cognitive assessments.

The key role of protein based nanostructures has recently revolutionized the nanomedicine era. Protein nanoparticles have turned out to be the major grounds for the transformation of different properties of many conventional materials by virtue of their size and greater surface area which instigates them to be more reactive to some other molecules. Protein nanoparticles have better biocompatibilities and biodegradability and also have the possibilities for surface modifications. These nanostructures can be synthesized by using protein like albumin, gelatin, whey protein, gliadin, legumin, elastin, zein, soy protein, and milk protein. The techniques for their fabrication include emulsification, desolvation, complex coacervation, and electrospray. The characterization parameters of protein nanoparticles comprise particle size, particle morphology, surface charge, drug loading, determination of drug entrapment, and particle structure and in vitro drug release. A plethora of protein nanoparticles applications via different routes of administration are explored and reported by eminent researchers which are highlighted in the present review along with the patents granted for protein nanoparticles as drug delivery carriers.

Nanotechnology manifests the progression in the arena of research and development, by increasing the efficacy of the product through delivery of innovative solutions. To overcome certain drawbacks associated with the traditional products, application of nanotechnology is escalating in the area of cosmeceuticals. Cosmeceuticals are regarded as the fastest growing segment of the personal care industry and the use has risen drastically over the years. Nanocosmeceuticals used for skin, hair, nail, and lip care, for conditions like wrinkles, photoaging, hyperpigmentation, dandruff, and hair damage, have come into widespread use. Novel nanocarriers like liposomes, niosomes, nanoemulsions, microemulsion, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carrier, and nanospheres have replaced the usage of conventional delivery system. These novel nanocarriers have advantages of enhanced skin penetration, controlled and sustained drug release, higher stability, site specific targeting, and high entrapment efficiency. However, nanotoxicological researches have indicated concern regarding the impact of increased use of nanoparticles in cosmeceuticals as there are possibilities of nanoparticles to penetrate through skin and cause health hazards. This review on nanotechnology used in cosmeceuticals highlights the various novel carriers used for the delivery of cosmeceuticals, their positive and negative aspects, marketed formulations, toxicity, and regulations of nanocosmeceuticals.

SPRING-ELS (Early Life Stress) is a substudy of the SPRING cluster randomised controlled trial that is assessing a home visits programme in rural India promoting early child development and growth. Early life stress interferes with healthy child development so our aim was to evaluate its role in the SPRING causal pathway. We report findings from the preparatory phase of SPRING-ELS.

The chromatic properties of a few dipeptide polydiacetylenes were found to change dramatically with very slight structural variations of dipeptides, leading to the proposal of a non-coplanar packing model to explain the chromatic behavior of polydiacetylenes.

The objective of the study was to ascertain the influence of various maternal factors like age, BMI, anthropometry, parity, and so forth on body dimensions of newborn and to discover determinants of neonatal subcutaneous fat distribution pattern. 94 Khatri and Arora new borns along with their biological mothers hailing from upper/middle socioeconomic status families were selected against several criteria: only liveborn, healthy full term babies (37–41 gestational weeks), singletons, born through vaginal delivery and for whom all data were available, for the study. Numerous biometric variables were chosen for this study: weight, stature (for mothers), birth length (for neonates), circumferences (head, chest, abdomen, hip, upper arm, and wrist), and skinfolds at different sites (biceps, triceps, subscapular, suprailiac, chest, thigh anterior, and calf posterior) along with newborn’s birth weight. All LBW infants were found to be significantly associated with maternal nutritional status and age, when controlled for other factors. Chances of having an LBW infant varies with mother’s nutritional status as determined by BMI and MUAC. Fat profiling has genetic implications because fat tracking patterns have shown that, irrespective of maternal nutritional status and age, most neonate skinfolds are guided by mother’s skinfold thicknesses. We conclude that early teenage pregnancies should be discouraged so as to reduce the incidence of LBW and larger ethnic-specific studies should be taken to find determinants of subcutaneous fat pattern in neonates.
