The growing amount of public financial data makes it increasingly important to learn how to discover valuable information for financial decision making. This article proposes an approach to discovering financial keywords from a large number of financial reports. In particular, we apply the continuous bag-of-words (CBOW) model, a well-known continuous-space language model, to the textual information in 10-K financial reports to discover new finance keywords. In order to capture word meanings to better locate financial terms, we also present a novel technique to incorporate syntactic information into the CBOW model. Experimental results on four prediction tasks using the discovered keywords demonstrate that our approach is effective for discovering predictability keywords for post-event volatility, stock volatility, abnormal trading volume, and excess return predictions. We also analyze the discovered keywords that attest to the ability of the proposed method to capture both syntactic and contextual information between words. This shows the success of this method when applied to the field of finance.

CoCrPt-SiO2 granular film is well known as a perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) media. To control the segregated structure of the recording layer, the role of the Ru underlayer is important. CoCrPt-SiO2 perpendicular recording films were prepared by magnetron sputtering, with a series of Ru films as seed layer. The microstructure of Ru seed layers and their influences on the grain size, roughness and surface morphology of CoCrPt-SiO2 granular films were investigated. It was found that the microstructure of seed layer obviously effected the structure and grain isolation of recording layers. The grain size and roughness of CoCrPt-SiO2 recording layer were both increased with increasing the thickness of Ru seed layer. It is concluded that the thin and rough Ru seed layer is suitable for high-density magnetic recording media, and Ru seed layer with suitable thickness is very helpful for the achievement of perfect isolation and excellent magnetic properties. The result revealed that it was relatively easy for the CoCrPt grains to get perfect isolation with Ru thickness of 70 nm.

Base on the thermodynamic calculation, CsI (s) does not decompose to Cs (s) and I (s) at 600°C, either does not from I2(g), CsO(g), CsO2(g), Cs2O(g), and Cs2O3(g). However during the experiment when CsI(s) is heated above to 200 °C at 1 atm the purple vapor can clearly be obviated. The vapor should be I2(g). It is because the incomplete boing of I- which in the CsI compound is evaporation. In this paper, we are interesting in CsI properties during heating and calculation the Cs-I-O thermodynamic characterizations by the thermodynamic data books.

We examine the change of levered firm’s capital structures due to different investment decisions of realised tax benefits and various sources of fund to finance coupon and dividend payouts. The complexity is analytically intractable but numerical approaches provide insights. Retaining realised tax benefits and investing them in risk-free assets instead of risky ones result in higher debt capacity and optimal firm value. The impact of positive-net-worth bond covenants on shareholders’ investment decisions of realised tax benefits and the related agency problem are analysed. The impact of selling firm’s asset (to finance payout) on optimal levered firm value is also analysed.
