To investigate the change of cortical venous flow in acute ischemic stroke patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO-AIS) and its clinical value. Baseline whole-brain 4D-CTA/CTP and clinical data of LVO-AIS and a control group were collected from June 2020 to October 2021. Venous inflow time (VIT), venous peak time (VPT), and venous outflow time (VOT) were analyzed on both sides of patients and normal controls. The VIT/VPT/VOT were statistically described and compared between the patient group and normal controls, then, in patients with different collateral circulation and prognoses. Next, the correlation between cortical venous drainage time and collateral circulation grading was analyzed. Finally, logistic regression analysis was used to explore the relationship between the three venous times and prognosis, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to assess the value of delayed cortical venous imaging in predicting prognosis. 149 LVO-AIS and 73 normal controls were collected. VIT, VPT, and VOT were significantly delayed on the affected side in the patient group compared with the healthy side (p <0.05) and the controls (p <0.05); VIT and VPT were also significantly delayed on the healthy side of patients compared with the controls (p <0.05). Delayed VIT and VPT on the affected side in the patient group were more significant in patients with poor collateral circulation (p <0.05), and VIT and VPT on the affected side in the patient group were negatively correlated with arterial collateral scores. VIT and VPT were significantly delayed in both sides of patients in the poor prognosis group compared with the good prognosis group (p <0.05). logistic regression showed that patients' affected VPT, arterial collateral scores, and NIHSS were independent predictors of poor prognosis, with an accuracy of 79.6% in predicting poor prognosis. The affected VPT and NIHSS were independent predictors of poor prognosis for patients presenting within 24 hours, with an accuracy of 79.6% in predicting poor prognosis. Cortical venous flow was significantly slowed in both sides of LVO-AIS patients. delayed ipsilateral VPT in LVO-AIS patients can be used as an imaging indicator to determine poor collateral circulation and predict poor prognosis. MicroRNAs (MiRNAs) play critical roles in regulating target gene expression and multiple cellular processes in human cancer malignant progression. However, the function of miR‐194 in gastric cancer (GC) remains unclear and controversial. In this study, we identified a series of miRNAs that can serve as prognostic biomarkers for GC by analysis of miRNA expression using The Cancer Genome Atlas data. Among them, miR‐100, miR‐125b, miR‐199a, and miR‐194 were the four most promising prognostic biomarkers in GC due to their significant associations with various clinical characteristics of patients. miR‐100, miR‐125b, and miR‐199a predicted poor prognosis in GC, while miR‐194 predicted favorable prognosis in GC. We also provide the first comprehensive transcriptome analysis of miR‐194 in GC. Our data suggest that miR‐194 tends to regulate target genes by binding to their 3′ UTRs in a 7‐mer‐A1, 7‐mer‐m8, or 8‐mer manner. KEGG pathway analysis showed that the cell cycle was one of the pathways most affected by miR‐194 in GC. Moreover, CCND1 was shown to be a novel target gene of miR‐194 in GC. Additionally, downregulation of CCND1 by miR‐194 in GC further led to cell growth inhibition and cell cycle arrest. In conclusion, miR‐100, miR‐125b, miR‐199a, and miR‐194 may have potential as prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers for GC. miR‐194 suppresses GC cell growth mainly through targeting CCND1 and induction of cell cycle arrest. Highlights • Primary cardiac phaeochromocytoma is a rare form of catecholamine-secreting heart tumour rarely encountered by anaesthetists. • We present a single centre case series of four cardiac phaeochromocytoma surgical excisions. • Perioperative management may require aggressive alpha and cautious beta-adrenergic blockage. • Intraoperative management requires careful use of vasoactive medications and fluids. • We advocate for the use of cardiac pulmonary bypass when excising cardiac phaeochromocytoma. Abstract Introduction Primary cardiac phaeochromocytoma is uncommon, with few anaesthetists encountering this rare pathology in clinical practice. Further, there is little information available on the detailed intraoperative and postoperative haemodynamics and principles of the anaesthetic management of this condition. Presentation of case We present a retrospective, single-centre case series of four patients with cardiac phaeochromocytoma who presented for surgical excision. We describe the perioperative evaluation and management of these patients, consideration of the requirements for cardiopulmonary bypass, and the analgesic and pharmacologic interventions needed to maintain stable perioperative and intraoperative haemodynamics. Discussion Octreotide scintigraphy, in addition to echocardiography, cardiac MRI and coronary angiography proved vital in the preoperative evaluation of these patients. Preoperative anaesthetic management of cardiac phaeochromocytoma involved alpha-adrenergic blockade, judicious beta-adrenergic blockade and hydration. Intraoperatively, the administration of vasodilatory agents prior to, and vasoconstricting agents with volume therapy after tumour excision, were the key elements of anaesthetic management. Furthermore, we believe that cardiopulmonary bypass plays a pertinent role in cardiac phaeochromocytoma excision and that the risks and benefits of pulmonary artery catheters should be considered before use in these patients. Conclusion Management of cardiac phaeochromocytoma is complex and demands careful perioperative planning and management. Fiber electronics discretely integrated into daily life is taking center stage for its enormous potentials for healthcare, physiological monitoring, and human-machine interfaces. However, the state-of-the-art fiber electronics are remarkably distinguished from generic fibers in diameter, stiffness, smoothness, and productivity. Here, we developed a universal scalable manufacturing process and generic fiber-like fine and soft self-powered interactive electronics with a diameter of only dozens of μm and a continuous length of hundreds of kilometers. These fiber electronics are prepared with a large-scale manufacturing speed (>20 m/min), and adapt to modern textile technology including weaving, knitting, sewing and embroidering. Moreover, Kawabata evaluation system for fabrics was systematically employed to analyze the fiber electronics enabled e-textile's sensorial comfort, suggesting that adding the fiber electronics to fabric benefits its tactile sensations (e.g., softness, fluffy and fullness). Based on tribotronics, the interactive fiber electronics-based smart clothing demonstrates versatile applications including biomechanical energy harvesting, vital signal detecting, human motion recognizing and tactile sensing. Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer mortality with a complex carcinogenesis that includes reduced cellular senescence. Lamin proteins are decreased in senescing cells, and frequently decreased in malignancies. This study identified a new drug candidate for colorectal cancer that appears to target cell senescence via a lamin protein. β-Asarone (1-propenyl-2,4,5-methoxybenzol) is a compound from the traditional medical herb Acorus calamus Linn. This study tested the in vitro and in vivo effects of β-asarone on colorectal cancer cells by testing cell viability using human colorectal cell lines HT29 and SW480 in MTT assays; tumorigenesis using xenografts in nude mice and a mouse model of colorectal cancer; cell senescence using senescence-associated β-galactosidase activity; and expression of cancer and senescence-related proteins, specifically lamins, Oct-1, p53, p21, and p15, by Western blot. β-Asarone appeared to increase expression of lamin B1, p53, p21, but not lamin A/C. β-Asarone regulates p15 expression by regulation of Oct-1 binding. Collectively, the results suggested that β-asarone inhibits colon cancer formation in vivo and in vitro by inducing senescence. • This is a combined cross-sectional and longitudinal study reported about the difference in microstructural integrity between patients with NMOSD and MS. • In this study, we report the detail about the extent of white matter integrity damage, and we found the extend of white matter integrity damage was differ between NMOSD and MS at cross-sectional result. • The pattern of longitudinal white matter microstructure damage after an average time interval of approximately one year was different between NMOSD and MS, and the result showed that the progressive change in brain microstructural properties is observed in patients with MS but may not in patients with NMOSD. Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) may sometimes be misdiagnosed as multiple sclerosis (MS) because both disorders have similar clinical presentations and commonly show white matter damage in the brain. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is an advanced MRI technique to assess the microstructural organization of white matter and provides greater pathological specificity than conventional MRI. In the present combined cross-sectional and longitudinal study, the novel DTI technique of Track-Based Spatial Statistics (TBSS) was used to investigate the difference of DTI parameter abnormalities between NMOSD and MS. A total of 42 patients with NMOSD, 51 patients with MS and 56 health controls (HC) were recruited and of these 14 patients with NMOSD and 13 patients with MS were also studied at follow-up after an average interval of approximately one year. Measurements of fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusion (MD), axial diffusivity (AD) and radial diffusivity (RD) were compared at baseline and follow-up in patients with NMOSD and MS. Significant reduction in FA, increase in MD, AD and RD were observed in patients with MS (p < 0.05) and reduced FA was shown in NMOSD (p < 0.05) compared to HC, with all the effects, together with lesion load on T1WI and T2WI, being greater in patients with MS than in patients with NMOSD (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the time interval to follow-up in patients with MS (1.37 years) and NMOSD (1.25 years) (p > 0.05), during which there were significant changes in EDSS score between baseline and follow-up in NMOSD and MS patients (p < 0.05). There was a significantly reduced FA, and increased MD and RD in patients with MS (p < 0.05), but no significant changes in patients with NMOSD (p > 0.05). Both MS and NMOSD have microstructure damage in white matter, while the progressive change in brain microstructural properties is observed in patients with MS but may not in patients with NMOSD in a short-term follow-up. Background: The volume change of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesion is related to its activity and can be used to assess disease progression. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop radiomics models for predicting the evolution of unenhanced MS lesions by using different kinds of machine learning algorithms and explore the optimal model. Methods: In this prospective observation, 45 follow-up MR images obtained in 36 patients with MS (mean age 32.53±10.91; 23 women, 13 men) were evaluated. The lesions will be defined as interval activity and interval inactivity, respectively, based on the percentage of enlargement or reduction of the lesion >20% in the follow-up MR images. We extracted radiomic features of lesions on FLAIR images, and used recursive feature elimination (RFE), ReliefF algorithm and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) for feature selection, then three classification models including logistic regression, random forest and support vector machine (SVM) were used to build predictive models. The performance of the models were evaluated based on the sensitivity, specificity, precision, negative predictive value (NPV) and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) curves analyses. Results: 135 interval inactivity lesions and 110 interval activity lesions were registered in our study. A total of 972 radiomics features were extracted, of which 265 were robust. The consistency and effectiveness of model performance were compared and verified by different combinations of feature selection and machine learning methods in different K-fold cross-validation strategies where K ranges from 5 to 10, thus demonstrating the stability and robustness. SVM classifier with ReliefF algorithm had the best prediction performance with an average accuracy of 0.827, sensitivity of 0.809, specificity of 0.841, precision of 0.921, NPV of 0.948 and the areas under the ROC curves (AUC) of 0.857 (95% CI: 0.812–0.902) in the cohorts. • NMOSD patients had altered topological organization of white matter structural networks compared with health controls. • Altered nodal parameters (degree centrality, nodal efficiency and nodal shortest path) of several brain regions were associated with cognitive dysfunction in NMOSD patients. • EDSS score was related to nodal shortest path (right MTG and ITG) in NMOSD patients. To investigate the topological properties alterations of white matter (WM) network in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) patients and its correlation with clinical and cognitive performance. Forty-eight NMOSD patients and fifty healthy controls (HC) underwent DTI and 3D-T1 scan on a 3.0 T MRI and clinical data and cognitive scales were collected. Structural networks were constructed and analyzed by using graph theory. The network metrics between-group comparisons were examined by using GRETNA. Differences in network parameters between two groups and grouped patients according to disease duration (DD) were compared to examine the impact of DD on WM network. The relationships between the network characteristics and clinical data and cognitive performances were also analyzed by partial correlation analysis. The NMOSD patients exhibited decreased global and local network efficiency and increased characteristic path length, which were pronounced more in long DD patients. Furthermore, altered nodal efficiencies were observed in several brain regions, which were mainly distributed in default mode and visual systems. The Expanded Disability Status Scale was positively related to nodal shortest path. NMOSD patients showed decreased cognitive performance in attention, short-term memory and verbal memory, which were associated with significantly decreased degree centrality, nodal efficiency and increased nodal shortest path of several brain regions (all p <0.05). This study illustrated the relationship between WM disruption and cognitive impairment in NMOSD patients, which advance the understanding of disrupted WM networks and provide insight into subtle WM pathology to cognitive impairment in NMOSD.
