n order to solve the small cutting strip width and poor surface quality problems when spiral bevel gears are CNC machined by ball-end mills£¬a machining method of face milling spiral bevel gears by using a disc cutter with a concave end is presented. Based on the researches of spiral bevel gears geometry structure, through a bigger diameter disc cutter with a concave end selected, the setting order of cutter orientation angles changed, and the functions of cutter tilt and yaw angle separated, tooth surfaces machined with big cutting strip width and no bottom land gouge can be expected. Finally, taking a spiral bevel gear pair as an example, through machining and measurement experiments, the method feasibility and correctness are verified

Based on non-smooth impact theory, the dynamic model of spiral bevel gear is constructed by considering of input shaft angle excitation. The Maximal Lyapunov Exponents (MLEs) curves for backlash 0.10mm and 0.14mm caused by exciting amplitude are given. The simulation results indicate that gear backlash, excited amplitude and retard torque have influence on the dynamics behavior of spiral bevel gear system. The experiments show that the vibration noise is deduced after ultrasonic gear lapping.

Based on the in-depth study the principle of NC generating gear tooth surfaces by application of the disc milling-cutter, finger milling-cutter NC generating spiral bevel gear tooth surfaces is presented in this paper. Through using a 5 shaft 4 linkage machining center, the finger milling-cutter is mounted on the imagination disc milling-cutter, in fact, 2 NC axes are used simultaneously to control the finger milling-cutter motion, imitating a blade motion of disc milling-cutter, and the motion of the blank is not change, to generate the spiral bevel gear tooth surfaces. A spiral bevel pinion is simulation machined by using machining simulation system VERICUT and the feasibility of the machining method is verified.
