This study aimed to explore the trajectory and predictors of subjective well-being (SWB). Elderly in Ma'anshan were followed up for 5 years. SWB was measured using the Memorial University of Newfoundland Scale of Happiness (MUNSH). GBTM was used to group the trajectories of SWB, and multivariate logistic regression was used to explore the influencing factors of the different trajectories. 2495 adults aged ≥60 years completed the survey. Four SWB trajectories were identified: low score ascending group [130(5.2 %)], high score decline group [316(14.7 %)], high score stable group [1827(73.2 %)], moderate score fluctuation group [172(6.9 %)]. With the high score stable group as the reference, social support, depressive symptoms and self-reported health were predictors of SWB for all the groups. The SWB of the elderly has different developmental trajectories. The aim of this study was to investigate the survival effect of palliative surgery in advanced tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC). A retrospective analysis of data in the SEER database for 6151 patients with stage III/IV TSCC (American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging), diagnosed between 2004 and 2015, was performed. The patients were divided into two groups: palliative surgery and no surgery. Kaplan–Meier and Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were applied to determine risk factors for overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). A further analysis was performed using 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) to balance 13 patient variables (sex, age at diagnosis, race, marital status, primary tumour site, SEER stage, AJCC stage, pathological differentiation grade, tumour size, lymph node metastasis, previous lymph node removal, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy). Among the 6151 patients, 706 underwent palliative surgery; the other 5445 did not undergo any kind of surgery. Those who underwent palliative surgery had a higher 5-year survival rate. After PSM, 1274 patients were included in the matched cohort. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that patients who underwent palliative surgery had a lower risk of death than those who did not (OS: hazard ratio 0.58, 95% confidence interval 0.49–0.69, P < 0.001; CSS: hazard ratio 0.60, 95% confidence interval 0.49–0.74, P < 0.001). Objective: To compare the effect of balanced multielectrolyte solutions (BMESs) versus normal saline (NS) for intravenous fluid on chloride levels and clinical outcomes in patients with predicted severe acute pancreatitis (pSAP) Background: Isotonic crystalloids are recommended for initial fluid therapy in acute pancreatitis, but whether the use of BMES in preference to NS confers clinical benefits is unknown. Methods: In this multicenter, stepped-wedge, cluster-randomized trial, we enrolled patients with pSAP (acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II score ≥8 and C-reactive protein >150 mg/L) admitted within 72 hours of the advent of symptoms. The study sites were randomly assigned to staggered start dates for a one-way crossover from the NS phase (NS for intravenous fluid) to the BMES phase (sterofudin for intravenous fluid). The primary endpoint was the serum chloride concentration on trial day 3. Secondary endpoints included a composite of clinical and laboratory measures. Results: Overall, 259 patients were enrolled from 11 sites to receive NS (n = 147) or BMES (n = 112). On trial day 3, the mean chloride level was significantly lower in patients who received BMES [101.8 mmol/L (SD: 4.8) vs 105.8 mmol/L (SD: 5.9), difference -4.3 mmol/L (95% CI: -5.6 to -3.0 mmol/L) ; P < 0.001]. For secondary endpoints, patients who received BMES had less systemic inflammatory response syndrome (19/112, 17.0% vs 43/147, 29.3%, P = 0.024) and increased organ failure-free days [3.9 days (SD: 2.7) vs 3.5 days (SD: 2.7), P < 0.001] by trial day 7. They also spent more time alive and out of the intensive care unit [26.4 days (SD: 5.2) vs 25.0 days (SD: 6.4), P = 0.009] and hospital [19.8 days (SD: 6.1) vs 16.3 days (SD: 7.2), P < 0.001] by trial day 30. Conclusions: Among patients with pSAP, using BMES in preference to NS resulted in a significantly more physiological serum chloride level, which was associated with multiple clinical benefits (Trial registration number: ChiCTR2100044432). Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a major food crop in China, and its high and stable yield is crucial for ensuring food security in the country. However, over the past few years, extreme weather events induced by global climate change have impacted rice growth. For example, the effects of heat stress on rice quality and yield have been significant. Therefore, it is fundamental to conduct in-depth research on the heat-tolerance mechanisms of rice and to cultivate superior new thermotolerant rice varieties. This review summarizes the adverse effects of high temperatures on rice growth at various stages, the heat-tolerance mechanisms in rice, and the heat-tolerance genes and QTLs that have been identified in recent years. Low muscle mass (LMM) can be a frequent complication in Crohn's disease (CD). We attempted to explore the effect of LMM on the efficacy of biologics in patients with CD. The retrospective cohort study included moderate-to-severe CD patients treated with infliximab or ustekinumab, and appendicitis patients as control. The skeletal muscle area (SMA) of L3 was assessed to evaluate the patients' muscle mass. After propensity score matching, the impact of LMM on drug efficacy was assessed in CD patients. A total of 269 patients with CD and 172 appendicitis patients were included. The CD group had lower skeletal muscle density and BMI, and a higher risk of developing LMM than the control group. BMI (OR = 0.48, p < 0.001) and previous use of biologics (OR = 2.94, p = 0.019) were found to be independently associated with LMM. LMM was found to be associated with a decrease in clinical response (at weeks 8–14), clinical remission (at weeks 8–14, 24–30 and 52) and biochemical remission (at week 52). At weeks 24–30 and 52, LMM was independently associated with loss of response (LOR). We found LMM could be a predictor of lower clinical remission at week 30, lower clinical remission at week 52 and a higher LOR rate at week 30 in infliximab. While in ustekinumab, LMM was associated with lower endoscopic remission at week 24, biochemical remission at week 52 and a higher LOR rate at weeks 24 and 52. The prevalence of LMM was higher in the CD group compared to the control group. To determine the clinical efficacy of Zuqing Xu 'Wuduling' powder for snake injury on the swelling of the affected limb bitten by Agkistrodon halys. Sixty-five patients with Agkistrodon halys bite were assigned to a treatment group (n = 35) or control group (n = 30). The treatment group was additionally given 'Wuduling' powder dressing locally based on the therapy to the control group with conventional Western medicine. Clinical efficacy and improvement of traditional Chinese medicine symptoms and signs in the two groups were evaluated. The treatment group showed a notably higher cure rate than the control group. After 3 days of therapy, the swelling and pain of the affected limb in the treatment group were greatly alleviated. Additionally, after 7 days of therapy, the swelling and pain of the affected limb in the treatment group were more greatly alleviated, and those in the control group were also alleviated. The comparison of the two groups during the same period showed more obvious alleviation of swelling and pain in the treatment group than that in the other. Moreover, the treatment group experienced notably shorter disappearing time of swelling and pain than the control group. After treatment, the levels of CRP, TBIL, Cr, ALT, AST, BUN, CK, LDH and CK-MB in both groups declined notably, with notably lower levels of them in the treatment group than those in the other. Cellular senescence, a hallmark of aging, involves a stable exit from the cell cycle. Senescent cells (SnCs) are closely associated with aging and aging-related disorders, making them potential targets for anti-aging interventions. In this study, we demonstrated that human embryonic stem cell-derived exosomes (hESC-Exos) reversed senescence by restoring the proliferative capacity of SnCs in vitro. In aging mice, hESC-Exos treatment remodeled the proliferative landscape of SnCs, leading to rejuvenation, as evidenced by extended lifespan, improved physical performance, and reduced aging markers. Ago2 Clip-seq analysis identified miR-302b enriched in hESC-Exos that specifically targeted the cell cycle inhibitors Cdkn1a and Ccng2. Furthermore, miR-302b treatment reversed the proliferative arrest of SnCs in vivo , resulting in rejuvenation without safety concerns over a 24-month observation period. These findings demonstrate that exosomal miR-302b has the potential to reverse cellular senescence, offering a promising approach to mitigate senescence-related pathologies and aging. Isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) is a potential therapeutic target across various tumor types. Here, we aimed to devise a radiomic model capable of predicting the IDH1 expression levels in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and examined its prognostic significance. We utilized genomic data, clinicopathological features, and contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) images from The Cancer Genome Atlas and the Cancer Imaging Archive for prognosis analysis and radiomic model construction. The selection of optimal features was conducted using the intraclass correlation coefficient, minimum redundancy maximum relevance, and recursive feature elimination algorithms. A radiomic model for IDH1 prediction and radiomic score (RS) were established using a gradient-boosting machine. Associations between IDH1 expression, RS, clinicopathological variables, and overall survival (OS) were determined using univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analyses and Kaplan–Meier curves. IDH1 emerged as a distinct predictive factor in patients with HNSCC (hazard ratio [HR] 1.535, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.117–2.11, P = 0.008). The radiomic model, built on eight optimal features, demonstrated area under the curve values of 0.848 and 0.779 in the training and validation sets, respectively, for predicting IDH1 expression levels. Calibration and decision curve analyses validated the model's suitability and clinical utility. RS was significantly associated with OS (HR = 2.22, 95% CI: 1.026–4.805, P = 0.043). Parkinson's disease (PD) shows small structural changes in nigrostriatal pathways, which can be sensitively captured through diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI). However, the value of DKI and its radiomic features in the classification performance of PD still need confirmation. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic efficiency of DKI-derived kurtosis metric and its radiomic features with different machine learning models for PD classification. 75 people with PD and 80 healthy individuals had their brains scanned using DKI. These images were pre-processed and the standard atlas were non-linearly registered to them. With the labels in atlas, different brain regions in nigrostriatal pathways, including the caudate nucleus, putamen, pallidum, thalamus, and substantia nigra, were chosen as the region of interests (ROIs) to warped to the native space to measure the mean kurtosis (MK). Additionally, new radiomic features were developed for comparison. To handle the large amount of data, a statistical method called Z-score normalization and another method called LASSO regression were used to simplify the information. From this, a few most important features were chosen, and a combined score called Radscore was calculated using LASSO regression. For the comprehensive analyses, three different conventional machine learning models were then created: logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest (RF). To ensure the models were accurate, a process called 10-fold cross-validation was used, where the data were split into 10 parts for training and testing. Using MK alone, the models achieved good results in correctly identifying PD in the validation set, with LR at 0.90, RF at 0.93, and SVM at 0.90. When the radiomic features were added, the models performed even better, with LR at 0.92, RF at 0.95, and SVM at 0.91. Additionally, a nomogram combining all the information was created to predict the likelihood of someone having PD, which had an AUC of 0.91. These findings suggest that the combination of DKI measurements and radiomic features can effectively diagnose PD by providing more detailed information about the brain's condition and the processes involved in the disease.
