The block farm program of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) has 59 enrollees from 2016 and 2017 in Negros Island. The block farms' degree of compliance to faithful representation as qualitative characteristics of financial information were determined in this study. Faithful representation was measured through a compliance index (TCI) with a summation of three significant indicators of completeness, neutrality, and free from error. Results indicated a Total Compliance Index (TCI) of 0.26, interpreted as low compliance to faithful representation. The results revealed a significant relationship between production cost and productivity, revenue and cane yield, and revenue from sugar and productivity. Compliance with faithful representation and profit also showed a significant relationship, while compliance and productivity showed no significant relationship. Farms should adopt appropriate and generally acceptable accounting practices to enhance the quality of financial information. A practical and uniform bookkeeping system with proper training and support should be available. The purpose of this paper is to show that the responsibility of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. (TEPCO) was "economized" in the wake of the accident. It is argued that responsibility for the nuclear accident was mainly linked to economic responsibility, and that social and moral responsibility were consequently obscured by the financial accounting that followed the accident. This paper also proposes that the responsibility for the accident should not be limited to TEPCO, but that the responsibility of the nuclear industry and regulatory bodies should be more strongly emphasized in order to prevent such accidents in the future. These conclusions are consistent with some of the literature that emerged following the Fukushima accident. The theoretical framework is derived from sociological studies on quantification and accounting literature on economizing. TEPCO's accounts, the special business plans of TEPCO and the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation, and documentation from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry are the main sources that are consulted in this paper. The aim of this article is to investigate the integration of General Education in improving the Selfefficacy of Cost and Management Accounting (CMA) students to assess whether Self-efficacy, is having any positive impact on the students' academic performance. The research design of this article was descriptive, longitudinal and employed a mixed-method approach. The nature of the quasi-experimental approach that was used in the current article is a non-equivalent pre-test and post-test control group design. The target population was CMA students. A census survey was performed. Findings, which were analysed with the aid of descriptive statistics, indicate a significant correlation in the post-test (Self-efficacy) scores of the group that undertook the General Education Modules and not the group that did not undertake the General Education Modules. This article recommends the implementation of General Education skills into the curriculum and a General Education intervention strategy. Moreover, these skills appear to be very poor amongst current learners and respondents believed that Self-efficacy could have a positive effect on the academic performance of learners. The cost of repeating a module has both financial and social implications. The social implications include increased workloads when repeating a module and students often not being able to graduate within the prescribed minimum course period. A possible solution for this is the use of accelerated learning courses, in the form of summer or winter schools. These schools provide students with another opportunity to pass a module, during the summer or winter recess, using an accelerated learning mode, and consequently complete modules with prerequisites of failed modules in the following year. Using an accelerated learning approach, a summer or winter school covers a large portion of the content in semester or year modules in a shortened timeframe outside the normal academic period. Using a questionnaire approach, the various perceptions of first year students at the end of the academic year regarding the use of these schools were obtained and analysed. The timing of the end of the academic year allows students to familiarise themselves with the various accelerated learning courses offered to them throughout the academic year. The findings suggest that students have a positive perception of these schools despite most of them not having had previous experience of completing an accelerated learning course. Although previous literature has indicated that students are hesitant to complete finance-related modules in an accelerated learning format versus traditional semester and year modules, the perceptions indicate that students are willing to engage in financial modules, with the students identifying that the benefits of these accelerated learning courses exceed the cost. The findings suggest that students who are presented with various non-academic obstacles throughout the traditional module are able to use summer or winter schools as a way to reduce exposure to these obstacles and complete an accelerated learning course. The use of these schools therefore presents an area for module developers to consider when implementing these schools as a way to improve throughput rates, thereby contributing in a positive way to students' financial and social health. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of problem-based learning (PBL) model with an assessment rubric on the students’ critical thinking development in learning financial accounting. This quasi-experimental study conducted at a university in Riau, Sumatra, Indonesia involved 41 second-year students. They were divided into two groups: 22 students in the experimental group, 19 students in the control group. Pre-test and post-test were used to examine the effectiveness level. The data analysis techniques included descriptive statistical test and MannWhitney Test. The results showed that the mean scores of the pre-test and post-test in the experimental group were 47 and 60 respectively. The mean scores of the pretest and post-test in the control group were 54 and 50 respectively. Moreover, the Mann-Whitney Test results showed that the value of Sig. (2-tailed)> alpha, that was 0.114> 0.05, indicating that Ho was accepted, and Ha was rejected. It indicates that albeit not significantly, the use of assessment rubric in the PBL model could increase the students’ learning outcomes in the experimental group as compared with the students in the control group using PBL model only. Current emphasis on students' academic adaptation in higher education necessitates the evaluation of predictors of successful preparation of first-year students. This study evaluated the implementation of early assessment (EA) in two first-year financial accounting courses at a South African university, namely an introductory financial accounting course, aimed at students without prior exposure to accounting, and a professional body accredited accounting course, aimed at students with prior exposure to accounting. This module-specific benchmark assessment, early in the academic year is often used as a predictor of preparation, adaptation and potential future academic performance. Given the discontinuation of a university, wide EA protocol within a faculty the academic contribution of the EA has been questioned. The study's focus comprised two research questions, namely whether the EA can be used as a predictor of future academic performance of two different academic performance groups and whether students in a lower academic performance group are able to achieve success despite a low result in the EA. The research methodology included an analysis of variances to determine the correlation between the early assessment and either mid-year or final marks, as well as significance evaluation of the measured variance analysis using the Bonferroni test. The findings suggest that whilst the EA could potentially be used as an early warning sign for at-risk academically low performing students, the EA could also result in a misleading representation to students in the high academic performance category. Principally, the EA was found not to be a reliable predictor of future academic performance. In addition, the mixed results obtained from the evaluation of the effect of the nature and format of the assessment suggested that it had a low and non-meaningful effect on the predictive value of the early assessment. The fact that students in the academically low performance group were largely able to pass the module, however, suggests the success of intervention utilising the EA as an early warning. Rationale and Objectives: The Alliance of Directors and Vice Chairs in Education group identified the need to develop an education budget template as resource for our community. Having a framework and working knowledge of budgetary considerations is crucial to those with general oversight and executive managerial responsibility for departmental educational programs.Methods: An online survey was sent to all the Alliance of Directors and Vice Chairs in Education members. Survey questions included education funding sources, presence of vice chair of finance, expectation of revenue generation, existing education budget, funding decision-makers, education budget formulation and approval, vice chair of education's role in budget, education budget line items, and income statement review.Results: The survey response rate was 41/81 (51%). A majority 26/41 (63%) of respondents had an education budget that typically included funding for all medical students, residents, and fellows but only a minority of respondents report they developed 10/22 (45%), approved 6/22 (27%), or regularly reviewed 6/21 (29%) this budget. In sharp contrast was the role of department chairs and administrators, who presumably all participated in this process. To assist in education budget development and review, as well as meet the need to improve participants' financial accounting knowledge as a key tenet of faculty professional development, the authors developed sample budget templates and an income statement primer.Conclusion: Our survey results suggested the need for an educational budget framework and financial accounting resources for those in radiology education posts, and resources have been provided. This study examines the effect of the demonstration method on students' achievement in financial accounting in Gombe state, Nigeria. A sequential explanatory mixed-method design is used where 120 students from six randomly selected schools participated in the study. The students are equally divided into two groups, namely, experimental (i.e., demonstration method) and control group (i.e., conventional approach). Four (4) students participate in the interview. A Financial Accounting Achievement Test (FAAT) is used as an instrument for data collection. The results indicate that at the pre-test stage, there is no significant difference between the achievement of students who are assigned to the demonstration method and that of those who are assigned to the conventional method. The result suggests that the two groups are equal in terms of their achievement at the initial stage. Nonetheless, a significant difference in the financial accounting achievement of students who are exposed to the demonstration method and that of those who are exposed to the conventional method is found at the post-test stage. In the literature there are many approaches regarding the notion of cost and expense. The approaches are varied and complex. Very often both expressions are used as synonyms, or in the definition of expenses and cost appear. It should be clarified what is the connection between the two. Which was born first, cost or expense? The cost is very clearly tied to the production of tangible and intangible assets and the default cost accounting (managerial accounting) and expense relates to incomes and hence of financial accounting. This paper analyses the relation between accounting and taxes in the Czech Republic using a specific example of the accrual principle. It asks the question whether the accrual principle applied in accounting is also fully applied in the area of direct taxation. The paper first discusses general considerations on tax collection in the Czech Republic and its constitutional and legal aspects, followed by reflections on how a tax base is constructed when the accounting profit according to Czech accounting regulations is used in the case of accounting units. The core of all considerations is the discussion about whether all revenues reported in accounting (unless specified otherwise in particular cases) are income that is subject to tax. The considerations are made in the context of decision making practice of the Supreme Administrative Court, while attention is also paid to the questions of legal regulation of financial accounting in the Czech Republic. This article looks into the processes and procedures that were followed and the research conducted towards the development of a curriculum for a new Introductory Financial Accounting module at the University of South Africa (Unisa), which is an open distance learning (ODL) institution. Most of the aspects of curriculum development touched on will also be relevant for residential universities. The research method used to develop the curriculum was based on a thorough literature study of aspects of curriculum development. On the basis of this literature study, the curriculum development approach was devised and the determinants of curriculum development, that could have a special influence on the development of the new module, identified. The new module FAC1501, Introductory Financial Accounting, was introduced in the new oneyear Higher certificate in Accounting Sciences in the School of Accounting Sciences' new programme qualification mix (PQM). Because FAC1501 had no previous student body, it was necessary to do a thorough literature review of relevant statistical evidence gathered by other researchers regarding various aspects of this curriculum project and to adapt it where necessary. This, together with the determinants identified, provided guidelines for the selection and arrangement of learning content and preparation of the necessary tuition material. The article emphasises the fact that curriculum development is a neverending team effort in the sense that the ongoing process of monitoring and evaluating the curriculum together with possible changes in disciplinary knowledge, determines which factors should receive attention in the next cycle of curriculum development. Abstract: Why has accounting, one of the eldest disciplines in business, only recently started to consider family business, the prevalent form of economic organization in the world, as a relevant research context? What is the role of accounting in family business? Which accounting issues are relevant in family business? How are different accounting practices implemented in family business? And how do these practices affect various family business outcomes and dynamics? This article aims to answer these and other questions by focusing on three key family business characteristics: 1. involvement of the family in ownership, governance and management, 2. socioemotional wealth, and 3. succession. Given the distinctive features, aims and foci of financial and managerial accounting, the article points out that distinctive research questions, methodologies, and theoretical frameworks are needed to study financial and managerial accounting in a family business context. We suggest several topics in both financial and managerial accounting relevant to family business that can be explored by future research. In the context of deep financial and economic transformations taking place both nationally and globally, the need and appropriateness of ongoing and increased involvement of accounting information in the management process is increasingly obvious under the increasing credibility and relevance of such information in user perception. Although the data, information and knowledge provided by accounting are not the only ones characterizing a particular economic unit, we believe they are an essential element for analysis and assessment of the entity's statement of assets, motivation according to which accounting is seen by the management, and not only, as the core of the information system. Thus, the accounting information experiences a wide revaluation on all the decision-making stages specific to a field of activity, materialized, for this purpose, in economic and financial indicators that are obtained either directly from synthetic and analytical accounts, or through calculations based on them, regularly and periodically, depending on the need and possibility of operational knowledge of such indicators or only at certain times. Therefore the main purpose of the accounting information system is to provide each user, according to its responsibilities and tasks, with all the necessary information, representing both an interface between the operating and the management system of the entity, but also an element connecting the internal and the external environment of the company, a perspective that motivates our scientific approach orientation in the research of accounting information and its role in the decision making process. In relation to the destination of the information derived from the patrimonial transformations, the Romanian accounting information operates with two major and distinct circuits: financial accounting and management accounting. Any company, regardless of its size should prove permanent operating power, adaptability, and to face competition, even if the economic and social transformation is in full. Or, this requires recognition at all levels of the role of accounting in its complexity, that financial accounting and management accounting. If the general ledger provides information processed unit, making contact with the enterprise environment, decision-making at managerial level is only possible after receipt of the information they need, or these information are provided by the management accounting, that receives, records and analyse the internal accounting dates. Management accounting organization is not subject to uniform rules, but its organization is required, because management accounting must have an unitary character to facilitate the control of management and effective use of heritage unit. In food industry of manufacturing dairy products analytical record of production costs is very important for cost calculation. Determining these costs on carriers and areas of expenditure, based on documentary evidence, strengthens the position of current analytical record of production costs, and calculating and determining their volume, allows the elaboration of concrete measures on factories, departments and workplaces, by training teams of research and planning, forecasting, organization and tracking of production, labor productivity, supply-dissolution in financial accounting, as well as in other business departments. Abstract: The aim of this contribution is to verify whether there exists a reaction of financial markets to the new accounting method for goodwill introduced by SFAS 142 and IAS 36. Our research hypothesis is that financial markets should have no significant reaction to the goodwill write-off following the impairment test, since the latter''s outcome represents an economic estimate without financial significance. The hypothesis was checked by the analysis of the companies added to the Standard & Poor''s Europe 350 index over a three-year period, taking note of goodwill write-off announcements and relating them with the stock market prices and their volatility. The results demonstrate a correlation between the goodwill write-off and the behaviour of financial markets, while the same connection cannot be evinced for prices volatility. Also, what comes out from our analysis is that markets need a relatively long period, over one semester, before absorbing in full the effects resulting from the write-off announcement. A basic knowledge of financial accounting can help radiologists analyze business opportunities and examine the potential impacts of new technology or predict the adverse consequences of new competitors entering their service area. The income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement are the three basic financial statements that document the current financial position of the radiology practice and allow managers to monitor the ongoing financial operations of the enterprise. Pro forma, or hypothetical, financial statements can be generated to predict the financial impact of specific business decisions or investments on the profitability of the practice. Sensitivity analysis, or what-if scenarios, can be performed to determine the potential impact of changing key revenue, investment, operating cost or financial assumptions. By viewing radiology as both a profession and a business, radiologists can optimize their use of scarce economic resources and maximize the return on their financial investments.
