In this preprint we consider generalizations of discrete and integral Cauchy--Bunyakovskii inequalities by the method of mean values with some applications. Mostly the material is compiled as a short survey but some results are proved. Main results are listed, including an interesting inequality with maximum and minimum values. Some applications are considered from different fields of mathematics. Among them are estimates for some special functions, including Euler gamma and incomplete gamma function, the Legendre complete elliptic integrals of the first kind. In this article we proved an interesting property of the class of continuous convex functions. This leads to the form of pre-Hermite-Hadamard inequality which in turn admits a generalization of the famous Hermite-Hadamard inequality. Some further discussion is also given.

In this paper, two parallel notions of convexity of sets are introduced in the abelian semigroup setting. The connection of these notions to algebraic and to set-theoretic operations is investigated. A formula for the computation of the convex hull is derived. Finally, a Stone-type separation theorem for disjoint convex sets is established.

The aim of this paper is to characterize in broad classes of means the so-called Hardy means, i.e., those means $M\colon\bigcup_{n=1}^\infty \mathbb{R}_+^n\to\mathbb{R}_+$ that satisfy the inequality $$ \sum_{n=1}^\infty M(x_1,\dots,x_n) \le C\sum_{n=1}^\infty x_n $$ for all positive sequences $(x_n)$ with some finite positive constant $C$. One of the main results offers a characterization of Hardy means in the class of symmetric, increasing, Jensen concave and repetition invariant means and also a formula for the best constant $C$ satisfying the above inequality.

We provide a number of new quantitative versions of Helly's theorem. For example, we show that for every family $\{P_i:i\in I\}$ of closed half-spaces $$P_i=\{x\in {\mathbb R}^n:\langle x,w_i\rangle \leq 1\}$$ in ${\mathbb R}^n$ such that $P=\bigcap_{i\in I}P_i$ has positive volume, there exist $s\leq \alpha n$ and $i_1,\ldots, i_s\in I$ such that $$|P_{i_1}\cap\cdots\cap P_{i_s}|\leq (Cn)^n\,|P|,$$ where $\alpha, C>0$ are absolute constants. These results complement and improve previous work of B\'ar\'any-Katchalski-Pach and Nasz\'odi. Our method combines the work of Srivastava on approximate John's decompositions with few vectors, a new estimate on the corresponding constant in the Brascamp-Lieb inequality and an appropriate variant of Ball's proof of the reverse isoperimetric inequality.

In this note a general a Cauchy-type mean value theorem for the ratio of functional determinants is offered. It generalizes Cauchy's and Taylor's mean value theorems as well as other classical mean value theorems.

Motivated by the well-known implications among $t$-convexity properties of real functions, analogous relations among the upper and lower $M$-convexity properties of real functions are established. More precisely, having an $n$-tuple $(M_1,\dots,M_n)$ of continuous two-variable means, the notion of the descendant of these means (which is also an $n$-tuple $(N_1,\dots,N_n)$ of two-variable means) is introduced. In particular, when all the means $M_i$ are weighted arithmetic, then the components of their descendants are also weighted arithmetic means. More general statements are obtained in terms of the generalized quasi-arithmetic or Matkowski means. The main results then state that if a function $f$ is $M_i$-convex for all $i\in\{1,\dots,n\}$, then it is also $N_i$-convex for all $i\in\{1,\dots,n\}$. Several consequences are discussed.

The Riesz-Sobolev inequality provides an upper bound for a trilinear expression involving convolution of indicator functions of sets. It is known that equality holds only for homothetic ordered triples of appropriately situated ellipsoids. We characterize ordered triples of subsets of Euclidean space $R^d$ that nearly realize equality, for arbitrary dimensions $d$, extending a result already known for $d=1$.

In this paper, we introduce and prove the generalizations of Radon inequality. The proofs in the paper unify and are simpler than those in former work. Meanwhile, we also find mathematical equivalences among the Bernoulli inequality, the weighted AM-GM inequality, the H\"{o}lder inequality, the weighted power mean inequality and the Minkowski inequality. In the current note, we investigate the mathematical relations among the weighted arithmetic mean-geometric mean (AM-GM) inequality, the H\"{o}lder inequality and the weighted power-mean inequality. Meanwhile, the proofs of mathematical equivalence among the weighted AM-GM inequality, the weighted power-mean inequality and the H\"{o}lder inequality are fully achieved. Extending the notion of projective means we first generalize an invariance identity related to the Carlson log given in a recent paper of P. Kahlig and J. Matkowski, and then, more generally, given a bivariate symmetric, homogeneous and monotone mean M, we give explicit formula for a rich family of pairs of M-complementary means. We prove that this method cannot be extended for higher dimension. Some examples are given and two open questions are proposed.

We investigate the representation of homogeneous, symmetric means in the form M(x,y)=\frac{x-y}{2f((x-y)/(x+y))}. This allows for a new approach to comparing means. In this paper, we study spectral properties of generalized weighted Hilbert matrices. In particular, we establish results on the spectral norm, determinant, as well as various relations between the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of such matrices. As applications we improve on results on lower bounds for the Riemann zeta-function on the critical line, the determinant of a skew-symmetric matrix with entries $\pm 1$, and on the maximal order of an irreducible character of the symmetric group.
