We consider a time-dependent $\mathcal{O}(1/G)$ deformation of pure de Sitter (dS) space in dS gravity coupled to a massless scalar field. It is the dS counterpart of the AdS Janus deformation and interpolates two asymptotically dS spaces in the far past and the far future with a single deformation parameter. The Penrose diagram can be elongated along the time direction indefinitely as the deformation becomes large. After studying the classical properties of the geometry such as the area theorem and the fluctuation by a matter field, we explore the algebraic structure of the field operators on the deformed spacetime. We argue that the algebra is a von Neumann factor of type II$_\infty$ for small deformations, but there occurs a transition to type I$_\infty$ as the deformation increases so that the neck region of the deformed space becomes a Lorentzian cylinder., Comment: 1+19 pages, 3 figures v2: added references

We study canonical quantization of Jackiw-Teibelboim (JT) gravity coupled to a massless scalar field. We provide concrete expressions of matter SL(2,{\,\bf R}) charges and the boundary matter operators in terms of the creation and annihilation operators in the scalar field. The matter charges are represented in the form of an oscillator (Jordon-Schwinger) realization of the SL(2,{\,\bf R}) algebra. We also show how the gauge constraints are implemented classically, by matching explicitly classical solutions of Schwarzian dynamics with bulk solutions. We introduce $n$-point transition functions defined by insertions of boundary matter operators along the two-sided Lorentzian evolution, which may fully spell out the quantum dynamics in the presence of matter. For the Euclidean case, we proceed with a two-sided picture of the disk geometry and consider the two-sided $2$-point correlation function where initial and final states are arranged by inserting matter operators in a specific way. For some simple initial states, we evaluate the correlation function perturbatively. The explorations of physical degrees of freedom with infinite dimensionalities, such as orbital angular momentum and frequency of light, have profoundly reshaped the landscape of modern optics with representative photonic functional devices including optical vortex emitters and frequency combs. In nanophotonics, whispering gallery mode microresonators naturally support orbital angular momentum of light and have been demonstrated as on-chip emitters of monochromatic optical vortices. On the other hand, whispering gallery mode microresonators serve as a highly efficient nonlinear optical platform for producing light at different frequencies - i.e., microcombs. Here, we interlace the optical vortices and microcombs by demonstrating an optical vortex comb on an III-V integrated nonlinear microresonator. The angular-grating-dressed nonlinear microring simultaneously emits spatiotemporal light springs consisting of 50 orbital angular momentum modes that are each spectrally addressed to the frequency components (longitudinal whispering gallery modes) of the generated microcomb. We further experimentally generate optical pulses with time-varying orbital angular momenta by carefully introducing a specific intermodal phase relation to spatiotemporal light springs. We consider Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity with a massless matter field and turn on bulk excitations leading to a nontrivial vev of the corresponding dual boundary operator. To leading order, we realize the corresponding deformation of thermofield double state by explicitly identifying their Hilbert space. The deformed state can be prepared with an operator insertion at the mid-point of the Euclidean time evolution in the context of Hartle-Hawking construction. We show that the inserted operators form an SL(2,{\bf R}) representation. We construct a specific orthonormal basis that is directly related to the operator basis of the vev deformations. If we include the higher order corrections, the bulk geometry is no longer left-right symmetric. We argue that, classically, the mode coefficients in the bulk deformation cannot be fully recovered from the data collected along the boundary cutoff trajectories. We study Python's lunch geometries in the two-dimensional Jackiw-Teitelboim model coupled to a massless scalar field in the semiclassical limit. We show that all extrema including the minimal quantum extremal surface, bulges and appetizers lie inside the horizon. We obtain fully back-reacted general bulk solutions with a massless scalar field, which can be understood as deformations of black holes. The temperatures of the left/right black holes become in general different from each other. Moreover, in the presence of both state and source deformations at the same time, the asymptotic black hole spacetime is further excited from that of the vacuum solution. We provide information-theoretic interpretation of deformed geometries including Python's lunches, minimal quantum extremal surface and appetizers according to the entanglement wedge reconstruction hypothesis. By considering the restricted circuit complexity associated with Python's lunch geometries and the operator complexity of the Petz map reconstructing a code space operation, we show that the observational probability of Python's lunch degrees of freedom from the boundary is exponentially suppressed. We study supersymmetric inhomogeneous field theories in 1+1 dimensions which have explicit coordinate dependence. Although translation symmetry is broken, part of supersymmetries can be maintained. In this paper, we consider the simplest inhomogeneous theories with one real scalar field, which possess an unbroken supersymmetry. The energy is bounded from below by the topological charge which is not necessarily nonnegative definite. The bound is saturated if the first-order Bogomolny equation is satisfied. Non-constant static supersymmetric solutions above the vacuum involve in general a zero mode although the system lacks translation invariance. We consider two inhomogeneous theories obtained by deforming supersymmetric sine-Gordon theory and $\phi^6$ theory. They are deformed either by overall inhomogeneous rescaling of the superpotential or by inhomogeneous deformation of the vacuum expectation value. We construct explicitly the most general supersymmetric solutions and obtain the BPS energy spectrum for arbitrary position-dependent deformations. Nature of the solutions and their energies depend only on the boundary values of the inhomogeneous functions. The vacuum of minimum energy is not necessarily a constant configuration. We explore the entanglement evolution of boundary intervals in eternal Janus black holes that can be embedded consistently into string theory in the low-energy limit. By studying the geodesics we show that there is a transition in the entanglement characteristic around the Page time, which manifests the unitarity of the evolution. We reproduce and reinterpret these bulk results from two different lower-dimensional perspectives: first as an interface CFT in the usual AdS/CFT correspondence and second as an effective gravity theory in one lower dimension coupled to a radiation background. In the limit where the number of interface degrees of freedom becomes large, we obtain an effective theory on appropriate branes that replace the deep interior region in the bulk, coined the shadow region. In this effective theory, we also identify the island of the radiation entanglement wedge and verify the newly proposed quantum extremization method. Our model clarifies that double holography with gravity in two higher dimensions can be realized in a concrete and consistent way and that the occurrence of islands is natural in one higher dimension. Recently, ${\cal N} =3$ mass-deformed ABJM model with arbitrary mass-function depending on a spatial coordinate was constructed. In addition to the ${\cal N} = 3$ case, we construct lower supersymmetric ${\cal N} =1$ and ${\cal N} =2$ inhomogeneously mass-deformed ABJM (ImABJM) models, which require three and two arbitrary mass-functions, respectively. We also construct general vacuum solutions of the ${\cal N} = 3$ ImABJM model for any periodic mass-function. We propose possible probes which could be used to demonstrate experimentally the existence of the bulk and the formation of a traversable wormhole purely in terms of boundary operations only. In the two-dimensional Einstein-dilaton gravity, the traversable wormhole is realized by turning on a double trace interaction which couples the two boundaries of the AdS$_2$ black hole. Signals can propagate in the traversable wormhole through two different channels. The boundary channel is direct and instantaneous, while the bulk channel respects the bulk causality and takes a certain amount of time to complete signaling. In the latter case, we show that the signal frequency detected on the other side is highly modulated in general. The time delay as well as the frequency-modulation pattern could then be clear indications that the signal comes out through the bulk channel. We present the gravity description of evaporating black holes that end up with eternal traversable wormholes where every would-be behind horizon degree is available in asymptotic regions. The transition is explicitly realized by a time-dependent bulk solution in the two-dimensional Einstein-dilaton gravity. In this solution, the initial AdS$_2$ black hole is evolved into an eternal traversable wormhole free of any singularity, which may be dubbed as transparentization of black holes to eternal traversable wormholes. The bulk construction completely matches with the boundary description governed by the Schwarzian boundary theory. We also obtain solutions describing eternal traversable wormholes as well as excitations by an additional matter and graviton oscillations on eternal traversable wormholes, which show that the eternal traversable wormhole states are gapped and non-chaotic. We construct detailed AdS$_2$ gravity solutions describing the teleportation through a traversable wormhole sending a state from one side of the wormhole to the other. The traversable wormhole is realized by turning on a double trace interaction that couples the two boundaries of an eternal AdS$_2$ black hole. The horizon radius or the entropy of the black hole is reduced consistently with the boundary computation of the energy change, confirming the black hole first law. To describe teleportee states traveling through the wormhole, we construct Janus deformations which make the Hamiltonians of left-right boundaries differ from each other by turning on exact marginal operators. Combining explicitly the traversable wormhole solution and the teleportee states, we present a complete bulk picture of the teleportation in the context of ER=EPR. The traversability of the wormhole is not lost to the leading order of the deformation parameter. A recommender system aims to recommend items that a user is interested in among many items. The need for the recommender system has been expanded by the information explosion. Various approaches have been suggested for providing meaningful recommendations to users. One of the proposed approaches is to consider a recommender system as a Markov decision process (MDP) problem and try to solve it using reinforcement learning (RL). However, existing RL-based methods have an obvious drawback. To solve an MDP in a recommender system, they encountered a problem with the large number of discrete actions that bring RL to a larger class of problems. In this paper, we propose a novel RL-based recommender system. We formulate a recommender system as a gridworld game by using a biclustering technique that can reduce the state and action space significantly. Using biclustering not only reduces space but also improves the recommendation quality effectively handling the cold-start problem. In addition, our approach can provide users with some explanation why the system recommends certain items. Music highlights are valuable contents for music services. Most methods focused on low-level signal features. We propose a method for extracting highlights using high-level features from convolutional recurrent attention networks (CRAN). CRAN utilizes convolution and recurrent layers for sequential learning with an attention mechanism. The attention allows CRAN to capture significant snippets for distinguishing between genres, thus being used as a high-level feature. CRAN was evaluated on over 32,000 popular tracks in Korea for two months. Experimental results show our method outperforms three baseline methods through quantitative and qualitative evaluations. Also, we analyze the effects of attention and sequence information on performance.

Recommender systems aim to find an accurate and efficient mapping from historic data of user-preferred items to a new item that is to be liked by a user. Towards this goal, energy-based sequence generative adversarial nets (EB-SeqGANs) are adopted for recommendation by learning a generative model for the time series of user-preferred items. By recasting the energy function as the feature function, the proposed EB-SeqGANs is interpreted as an instance of maximum-entropy imitation learning.

We find general deformations of BTZ spacetime and identify the corresponding thermofield initial states of the dual CFT. We deform the geometry by introducing bulk fields dual to primary operators and find the back-reacted gravity solutions to the quadratic order of the deformation parameter. The dual thermofield initial states can be deformed by inserting arbitrary linear combination of operators at the mid-point of the Euclidean time evolution that appears in the construction of the thermofield initial states. The deformed geometries are dual to thermofield states without deforming the boundary Hamiltonians in the CFT side. We explicitly demonstrate that the AdS/CFT correspondence is not a linear correspondence in the sense that the linear structure of Hilbert space of the underlying CFT is realized nonlinearly in the gravity side. We also find that their Penrose diagrams are no longer a square but elongated horizontally due to deformation. These geometries describe a relaxation of generic initial perturbation of thermal system while fixing the total energy of the system. The coarse-grained entropy grows and the relaxation time scale is of order $\beta/2\pi$. We describe an application of the Monte Carlo method to the Janus deformation of the black brane background. We present numerical results for three and five dimensional black Janus geometries with planar and spherical interfaces. In particular, we argue that the 5D geometry with a spherical interface has an application in understanding the finite temperature bag-like QCD model via the AdS/CFT correspondence. The accuracy and convergence of the algorithm are evaluated with respect to the grid spacing. The systematic errors of the method are determined using an exact solution of 3D black Janus. We calculate the holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) of the $\mathbb{Z}_k$ orbifold of Lin-Lunin-Maldacena (LLM) geometries which are dual to the vacua of the mass-deformed ABJM theory with Chern-Simons level $k$. By solving the partial differential equations analytically, we obtain the HEEs for all LLM solutions with arbitrary M2 charge and $k$ up to $\mu_0^2$-order where $\mu_0$ is the mass parameter. The renormalized entanglement entropies are all monotonically decreasing near the UV fixed point in accordance with the $F$-theorem. Except the multiplication factor and to all orders in $\mu_0$, they are independent of the overall scaling of Young diagrams which characterize LLM geometries. Therefore we can classify the HEEs of LLM geometries with $\mathbb{Z}_k$ orbifold in terms of the shape of Young diagrams modulo overall size. HEE of each family is a pure number independent of the 't Hooft coupling constant except the overall multiplication factor. In 2+1 dimensional nonrelativistic Chern-Simons gauge theories on $S^2$ which has a global $SU(M)$ symmetry, the semilocal Popov vortex equations are obtained as Bogomolny equations by minimizing the energy in the presence of a uniform external magnetic field. We study the equations with many flavors and find several families of exact solutions. The equations are transformed to the semilocal Liouville equations for which some exact solutions are known. In this paper, we find new exact solutions of the semilocal Liouville equations. Using these solutions, we construct solutions to the semilocal Popov equations. The solutions are expressed in terms of one or more arbitrary rational functions on $S^2$. Some simple solutions reduce to $CP^{M-1}$ lump configurations., Comment: 12 pages

We study the semilocal version of Popov's vortex equations on $S^2$. Though they are not integrable, we construct two families of exact solutions which are expressed in terms of rational functions on $S^2$. One family is a trivial embedding of Liouville-type solutions of the Popov equations obtained by Manton, where the vortex number is an even integer. The other family of solutions are constructed through a field redefinition which relate the semilocal Popov equation to the original Popov equation but with the ratio of radii $\sqrt{3/2}$, which is not integrable. These solutions have vortex number $N=3n-2$ where $n$ is a positive integer, and hence $N=1$ solutions belong to this family. In particular, we show that the $N=1$ solution with reflection symmetry is the well-known $CP^1$ lump configuration with unit size where the scalars lie on $S^3$ with radius $\sqrt{3/2}$. We investigate the vortex-type BPS equations in the ABJM theory without and with mass-deformation. We systematically classify the BPS equations in terms of the number of supersymmetry and the R-symmetries of the undeformed and mass-deformed ABJM theories. For the undeformed case, we analyze the ${\cal N}=2$ BPS equations for U(2)$\times$U(2) gauge symmetry and obtain a coupled differential equation which can be reduced to either Liouville- or Sinh-Gordon-type vortex equations according to the choice of scalar functions. For the mass-deformed case with U($N$)$\times$U($N$) gauge symmetry, we obtain some number of pairs of coupled differential equations from the ${\cal N}=1,2$ BPS equations, which can be reduced to the vortex equations in Maxwell-Higgs theory or Chern-Simons matter theories as special cases. We consider renormalization group flow applied to the cosmological dynamical equations. A consistency condition arising from energy-momentum conservation links the flow parameters to the cosmological evolution, restricting possible behaviors. Three classes of cosmological fixed points for dark energy plus a barotropic fluid are found: a dark energy dominated universe, which can be either accelerating or decelerating depending on the RG flow parameters, a barotropic dominated universe where dark energy fades away, and solutions where the gravitational and potential couplings cease to flow. If the IR fixed point coincides with the asymptotically safe UV fixed point then the dark energy pressure vanishes in the first class, while (only) in the de Sitter limit of the third class the RG cutoff scale becomes the Hubble scale., Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure

The Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action from string theory provides several new classes of dark energy behavior beyond quintessence due to its relativistic kinematics. We constrain parameters of natural potentials and brane tensions with cosmological observations as well as showing how to design these functions for a desired expansion history. We enlarge the attractor solutions, including new ways of obtaining cosmological constant behavior, to the case of generalized DBI theory with multiple branes. We study Aharony-Bergman-Jafferis-Maldacena (ABJM) theory without and with mass deformation. It is shown that maximally supersymmetry preserving, D-term, and F-term mass deformations of single mass parameter are equivalent. We obtain vortex-type half-BPS equations and the corresponding energy bound. For the undeformed ABJM theory, the resulting half-BPS equation is the same as that in supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and no finite energy regular BPS solution is found. For the mass-deformed ABJM theory, the half-BPS equations for U(2)xU(2) case reduce to the vortex equation in Maxwell-Higgs theory, which supports static regular multi-vortex solutions. Cosmological constant behavior can be realized as solutions of the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action within Type IIB string theory and the AdS/CFT correspondence. We derive a family of attractor solutions to the cosmological constant that arise purely from the "relativistic" nature of the DBI action without an explicit false vacuum energy. We also find attractor solutions with values of the equation of state near but with $w\ne-1$; the forms for the potential arising from flux interactions are renormalizable and natural, and the D3-brane tension can be given by the standard throat form. We explore the physics of supersymmetric Janus gauge theories in four dimension with spatial dependent coupling constants, e^2 and theta. In the framework of boundary conformal field theory we consider a flat unstable D$p$-brane in the presence of a large constant electromagnetic field. Specifically, we study the case that the electromagnetic field satisfy the following three conditions: (i) a constant electric field is turned on along the $x^1$ direction ($E_{1}\ne 0$); (ii) the determinant of the matrix $(\eta + F)$ is negative so that it lies in the physical region ($-\det (\eta + F)>0$); (iii) the 11-component of its cofactor is positive to the large electromagnetic field. In this case, we identify exactly marginal deformations depending on the spatial coordinate $x^1$. They correspond to tachyon profiles of hyperbolic sine, exponential, and hyperbolic cosine types. Boundary states are constructed for these deformations by utilizing T-duality approach and also by directly solving the overlap conditions in BCFT. The exponential type deformation gives a tensionless half brane connecting the perturbative string vacuum and one of the true tachyon vacua, while the others have negative tensions. In the presence of constant background electromagnetic fields, we discuss three types of exactly marginal boundary tachyon operators for static kinks in boundary conformal field theory. Functional forms of three operators are hyperbolic sine, hyperbolic cosine, and exponential types, and they describe codimension-one solitons when the transverse electric field has overcritical value. We derive the low energy dynamics of monopoles and dyons in N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories with hypermultiplets in arbitrary representations by utilizing a collective coordinate expansion. We study tachyon kinks with and without electromagnetic fields in the context of boundary string field theory. For the case of pure tachyon only an array of kink-antikink is obtained. In the presence of electromagnetic coupling, all possible static codimension-one soliton solutions such as array of kink-antikink, single topological BPS kink, bounce, half kink, as well as nonBPS topological kink are found, and their properties including the interpretation as branes are analyzed in detail. We consider a ${\hat c}=1$ model in the fermionic black hole background. For this purpose we consider a model which contains both the N=1 and the N=2 super-Liouville interactions. We propose that this model is dual to a recently proposed type 0A matrix quantum mechanics model with vortex deformations. We support our conjecture by showing that non-perturbative corrections to the free energy computed by both the matrix model and the super-Liouville theories agree exactly by treating the N=2 interaction as a small perturbation. We also show that a two-point function on sphere calculated from the deformed type 0A matrix model is consistent with that of the N=2 super-Liouville theory when the N=1 interaction becomes small. This duality between the matrix model and super-Liouville theories leads to a conjecture for arbitrary $n$-point correlation functions of the N=1 super-Liouville theory on the sphere., Comment: 18 pages, no figure

There are various kinds of solutions in the presence of electromagnetic fields in the flat space, such as periodic arrays, topological tachyon kinks, half kinks, and bounces. We identify a BPS object, D($p$-1)F1 bound state, which describes a thick brane with string flux density. The curved background of interest is the ten-dimensional lift of the Salam-Sezgin vacuum and, in the asymptotic limit, it approaches ${\rm R}^{1,4}\times {\rm T}^2\times {\rm S}^3$. Cosmological implication of rolling tachyons is reported in the context of effective field theory. With a brief review of rolling tachyons in both flat and curved spacetimes, we study the string cosmological model with both tachyon and dilaton. In the string frame, flat space solutions of both initial-stage and late-time are obtained in closed form. In the Einstein frame, every expanding solution is decelerating. We study DBI-type effective theory of an unstable D3-brane in the background manifold R^{1,1} x M_2 where M_2 is an arbitrary two-dimensional manifold. We obtain an exact tubular D2-brane solution of arbitrary cross sectional shape by employing 1/cosh tachyon potential. When M_2=S^2, the solution is embedded in the background geometry R^{1,3} x S^2 of Salam-Sezgin model. This tachyon potential shows a unique property that an array of tachyon soliton solutions has a fixed period which is independent of integration constants of the equations of motion. We search for tubular solutions in unstable D3-brane. With critical electric field E=1, solutions representing supertubes, which are supersymmetric bound states of fundamental strings, D0-branes, and a cylindrical D2-brane, are found and shown to exhibit BPS-like property. We also point out that boosting such a {\it tachyon tube} solution generates string flux winding around the tube, resulting in helical electric fluxes on the D2-brane. We study Born-Infeld type tachyonic effective action of unstable D2-brane with a runaway potential and find rich structure of static regular solitonic solutions. There exists only periodic array of tachyon kink-antikinks in pure tachyonic theory, however, in the presence of electromagnetic fields, solutions include periodic arrays, topological tachyon kinks, half kink, and bounces. Computed tension of each kink or single unit of the periodic array has $T_{1}=\sqrt{2}\pi T_{2}$ or that with a multiplicative factor depending on electric field. When both electric and magnetic fields are turned on, fundamental string charge density has a confined component in addition to a constant piece. These evidences imply that the obtained codimension-1 objects are likely to be interpreted as D1-brane (and D1F1) or array of D1$\bar{{\rm D}}1$ (and D1F1-$\bar{{\rm D}}1$F1) as was the case without the electromagnetic fields. We study Born-Infeld type effective action for unstable D3-brane system including a tachyon and an Abelian gauge field, and find the rolling tachyon with constant electric and magnetic fields as the most general homogeneous solution. Tachyonic vacua are characterized by magnitudes of the electric and magnetic fields and the angle between them. Analysis of small fluctuations in this background shows that the obtained configuration may be interpreted as a fluid consisting of string-like objects carrying electric and magnetic fields. They are stretched along one direction and the rolling tachyon move in a perpendicular direction to the strings. In this paper we consider a strong-weak coupling duality of the N=2 super-Liouville field theory (SLFT). Without the self-duality found in other Liouville theories, the N=2 SLFT, we claim, is associated with a `dual' action by a transformation $b\to 1/b$ where $b$ is the coupling constant. To justify our conjecture, we compute the reflection amplitudes (or two-point functions) of the (NS) and the (R) operators of the N=2 SLFT based on the conjectured dual action and show that the results are consistent with known results., Comment: 8 pages

We study an integrable deformation of the super-Liouville theory which generates a RG flows to the critical Ising model as the IR fixed point. This model turns out to be a supersymmetric sinh-Gordon model with spontaneously broken N=1 supersymmetry. The resulting massless Goldstino is the only stable on-shell particle which controls the IR behaviours. We investigate a class of matrix model which describes the dynamics of identical particles in even dimentional space. We show that the degrees of freedom after some constraints are implimented is proportional to particle number and consist of those for positions and internal degrees. The particle dynamics is given by the metric on the smooth moduli space. The moduli space metric for two particles is found. The size of tightly packed $N$ particles grows like $\sqrt{N}$. We study the ultraviolet asymptotics in $A_n$ affine Toda theories with integrable boundary actions. The reflection amplitudes of non-affine Toda theories in the presence of conformal boundary actions have been obtained from the quantum mechanical reflections of the wave functional in the Weyl chamber and used for the quantization conditions and ground-state energies. We compare these results with the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz derived from both the bulk and (conjectured) boundary scattering amplitudes. The two independent approaches match very well and provide the non-perturbative checks of the boundary scattering amplitudes for Neumann and $(+)$ boundary conditions. We find one explicit L^2 harmonic form for every Calabi manifold. Calabi manifolds are known to arise in low energy dynamics of solitons in Yang-Mills theories, and the L^2 harmonic form corresponds to the supersymmetric ground state. As the normalizable ground state of a single U(N) instanton, it is related to the bound state of a single D0 to multiple coincident D4's in the non-commutative setting, or equivalently a unit Kaluza-Klein mode in DLCQ of fivebrane worldvolume theory. As the ground state of nonabelian massless monopoles realized around a monopole-``anti''-monopole pair, it shows how the long range force between the pair is screened in a manner reminiscent of large N behavior of quark-anti-quark potential found in AdS/CFT correspondence., Comment: LaTeX, 23 pages
