Flat bands and nontrivial topological physics are two important topics of condensed matter physics. With a unique stacking configuration analogous to the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, rhombohedral graphite (RG) is a potential candidate for realizing both flat bands and nontrivial topological physics. Here we report experimental evidence of topological flat bands (TFBs) on the surface of bulk RG, which are topologically protected by bulk helical Dirac nodal lines via the bulk-boundary correspondence. Moreover, upon {\it in situ} electron doping, the surface TFBs show a splitting with exotic doping evolution, with an order-of-magnitude increase in the bandwidth of the lower split band, and pinning of the upper band near the Fermi level. These experimental observations together with Hartree-Fock calculations suggest that correlation effects are important in this system. Since the very recent discovery of unconventional superconductivity in twisted WSe${}_{2}$ homobilayers at filling $\nu=-1$, considerable interests arise in revealing its mechanism. In this paper, we developed a three-band tight-binding model with non-trivial band topology by direct Wannierization of the low-energy continuum model. Incorporating both onsite Hubbard repulsion and next-nearest-neighbor attraction, we then performed a mean-field analysis of the microscopic model and obtained a phase diagram qualitatively consistent with the experiment results. For zero or weak displacement field, the ground state is a Chern number $C=\pm 2$ topological superconductor in the Altland-Zirnbauer A-class (breaking time-reversal but preserving total $S_z$ symmetry) with inter-valley pairing dominant in $d_{xy}\mp id_{x^2-y^2}$-wave (mixing with a subdominant $p_x\pm i p_y$-wave) component. For a relatively strong displacement field, the ground state is a correlated insulator with $120^\circ$ antiferromagnetic order. The presence of quantum noises inherent to real physical systems can strongly impact the physics in hybrid quantum circuits with local random unitaries and mid-circuit measurements. The quantum noises with a size-independent occurring probability can lead to the disappearance of a measurement-induced entanglement phase transition and the emergence of a single area-law phase. In this work, we investigate the effects of quantum noises with size-dependent probabilities $q=p/L^{\alpha}$ where $\alpha$ represents the scaling exponent. We have identified a noise-induced entanglement phase transition from a volume law to a power (area) law in the presence (absence) of measurements as $p$ increases when $\alpha=1$. With the help of an effective statistical model, we reveal that the phase transition is of first-order arising from the competition between two types of spin configurations and shares the same analytical understanding as the noise-induced coding transition. This unified picture further deepens the understanding of the connection between entanglement behavior and the capacity of information protection. When $\alpha \neq 1$, one spin configuration always dominates regardless of $p$ and thus the phase transition disappears. Moreover, we highlight the difference between the effects of size-dependent bulk noise and boundary noises. In the context of measurement-induced entanglement phase transitions, the influence of quantum noises, which are inherent in real physical systems, is of great importance and experimental relevance. In this Letter, we present a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the effects of both temporally uncorrelated and correlated quantum noises on entanglement generation and information protection. This investigation reveals that entanglement within the system follows $q^{-1/3}$ scaling for both types of quantum noises, where $q$ represents the noise probability. The scaling arises from the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang fluctuation with effective length scale $L_{\text{eff}} \sim q^{-1}$. More importantly, the information protection timescales of the steady states are explored and shown to follow $q^{-1/2}$ and $q^{-2/3}$ scaling for temporally uncorrelated and correlated noises, respectively. The former scaling can be interpreted as a Hayden-Preskill protocol, while the latter is a direct consequence of Kardar-Parisi-Zhang fluctuations. We conduct extensive numerical simulations using stabilizer formalism to support the theoretical understanding. Quantum electrodynamics (QED) is a cornerstone of particle physics and also finds diverse applications in condensed matter systems. Despite its significance, the dynamics of quantum electrodynamics under a quantum quench remains inadequately explored. In this paper, we investigate the nonequilibrium regime of quantum electrodynamics following a global quantum quench. Specifically, a massive Dirac fermion is quenched to a gapless state with an interaction with gauge bosons. In stark contrast to equilibrium (3+1)-dimensional QED with gapless Dirac fermions, where the coupling is marginally irrelevant, we identify a nonequilibrium fixed point characterized by nonFermi liquid behavior. Notably, the anomalous dimension at this fixed point varies with the initial quench parameter, suggesting an interesting quantum memory effect in a strongly interacting system. Measurement-induced phase transitions (MIPT) have attracted increasing attention due to the rich phenomenology of entanglement structures and their relation with quantum information processing. Since physical systems are unavoidably coupled to environment, quantum noise needs be considered in analyzing a system with MIPT, which may qualitatively modify or even destroy certain entanglement structure of the system. In this Letter, we investigate the effect of quantum noise modeled by reset quantum channel acting on each site with probability $q$ on MIPT. Based on the numerical results from the Clifford circuits, we show that the quantum noise can qualitatively change the entanglement properties - the entanglement obeys ``area law'' instead of ``volume law'' with projective measurement rate $p

Studies of twisted moir\'e systems have been mainly focused on two-dimensional (2D) materials such as graphene with Dirac points and transition-metal-dichalcogenide so far. Here we propose a twisted bilayer of 2D systems which feature stable quadratic-band-touching points and find exotic physics different from previously studied twisted moir\'e systems. Specifically, we show that exactly flat bands can emerge at magic angles and, more interestingly, each flat band exhibits a high Chern number ($C=\pm 2$). We further consider the effect of Coulomb interactions in such magic-angle twisted systems and find that the ground state supports the quantum anomalous Hall effect with quantized Hall conductivity $2\frac{e^2}{hc}$ at certain filling. Topological electronic flatten bands near or at the Fermi level are a promising avenue towards unconventional superconductivity and correlated insulating states. However, the related experiments are mostly limited to the engineered materials, such as moire systems. Here we present a catalogue of all the three-dimensional stoichiometric materials with flat bands around the Fermi level that exist in nature. We consider 55,206 materials from the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database catalogued using the Topological Quantum Chemistry website which provides their structural parameters, space group (SG), band structure, density of states and topological characterization. We combine several direct signatures and properties of band flatness to a high-throughput analysis of all crystal structures. In particular, we identify materials hosting line-graph or bipartite sublattices - either in two or three dimensions - likely leading to flat bands. From this trove of information, we create the Materials Flatband Database website, a powerful search engine for future theoretical and experimental studies. We use it to extract a curated list of 2,379 materials, with among them 345 promising candidates, potentially hosting flat bands whose charge centers are not strongly localized on the atomic sites. We showcase five representative materials: KAg[CN]2 in SG 163 $(P\bar{3}1c)$, Pb2Sb2O7 in SG 227 $(Fd\bar{3}m)$, Rb2CaH4 in SG 139 $(I4/mmm)$, Ca2NCl in SG 166 $(R\bar{3}m)$ and WO3 in SG 221 $(Pm\bar{3}m)$. We provide a theoretical explanation for the origin of their flat bands close to the Fermi energy using the $S$-matrix method introduced in a parallel work [Calugaru et al., Nature Physics 18, 185 (2022)]., Comment: 16+162 pages, 21 tables, 71 figures, published version. Green's functions are fundamental quantities that determine the linear responses of physical systems. The recent developments of non-Hermitian systems, therefore, call for Green's function formulas of non-Hermitian bands. This task is complicated by the high sensitivity of energy spectrums to boundary conditions, which invalidates the straightforward generalization of Hermitian formulas. Here, based on the non-Bloch band theory, we obtain simple Green's function formulas of general one-dimensional non-Hermitian bands. Furthermore, in the large-size limit, these formulas dramatically reduce to finding the roots of a simple algebraic equation. As an application, our formulation provides the desirable formulas for the defining quantities, the gain and directionality, of directional amplification.
