Video Snapshot Compressive Imaging (SCI) uses a low-speed 2D camera to capture high-speed scenes as snapshot compressed measurements, followed by a reconstruction algorithm to retrieve the high-speed video frames. The fast evolving mobile devices and existing high-performance video SCI reconstruction algorithms motivate us to develop mobile reconstruction methods for real-world applications. Yet, it is still challenging to deploy previous reconstruction algorithms on mobile devices due to the complex inference process, let alone real-time mobile reconstruction. To the best of our knowledge, there is no video SCI reconstruction model designed to run on the mobile devices. Towards this end, in this paper, we present an effective approach for video SCI reconstruction, dubbed MobileSCI, which can run at real-time speed on the mobile devices for the first time. Specifically, we first build a U-shaped 2D convolution-based architecture, which is much more efficient and mobile-friendly than previous state-of-the-art reconstruction methods. Besides, an efficient feature mixing block, based on the channel splitting and shuffling mechanisms, is introduced as a novel bottleneck block of our proposed MobileSCI to alleviate the computational burden. Finally, a customized knowledge distillation strategy is utilized to further improve the reconstruction quality. Extensive results on both simulated and real data show that our proposed MobileSCI can achieve superior reconstruction quality with high efficiency on the mobile devices. Particularly, we can reconstruct a 256 X 256 X 8 snapshot compressed measurement with real-time performance (about 35 FPS) on an iPhone 15. Video Snapshot Compressive Imaging (SCI) aims to use a low-speed 2D camera to capture high-speed scene as snapshot compressed measurements, followed by a reconstruction algorithm to reconstruct the high-speed video frames. State-of-the-art (SOTA) deep learning-based algorithms have achieved impressive performance, yet with heavy computational workload. Network quantization is a promising way to reduce computational cost. However, a direct low-bit quantization will bring large performance drop. To address this challenge, in this paper, we propose a simple low-bit quantization framework (dubbed Q-SCI) for the end-to-end deep learning-based video SCI reconstruction methods which usually consist of a feature extraction, feature enhancement, and video reconstruction module. Specifically, we first design a high-quality feature extraction module and a precise video reconstruction module to extract and propagate high-quality features in the low-bit quantized model. In addition, to alleviate the information distortion of the Transformer branch in the quantized feature enhancement module, we introduce a shift operation on the query and key distributions to further bridge the performance gap. Comprehensive experimental results manifest that our Q-SCI framework can achieve superior performance, e.g., 4-bit quantized EfficientSCI-S derived by our Q-SCI framework can theoretically accelerate the real-valued EfficientSCI-S by 7.8X with only 2.3% performance gap on the simulation testing datasets. Transformers have achieved the state-of-the-art performance on solving the inverse problem of Snapshot Compressive Imaging (SCI) for video, whose ill-posedness is rooted in the mixed degradation of spatial masking and temporal aliasing. However, previous Transformers lack an insight into the degradation and thus have limited performance and efficiency. In this work, we tailor an efficient reconstruction architecture without temporal aggregation in early layers and Hierarchical Separable Video Transformer (HiSViT) as building block. HiSViT is built by multiple groups of Cross-Scale Separable Multi-head Self-Attention (CSS-MSA) and Gated Self-Modulated Feed-Forward Network (GSM-FFN) with dense connections, each of which is conducted within a separate channel portions at a different scale, for multi-scale interactions and long-range modeling. By separating spatial operations from temporal ones, CSS-MSA introduces an inductive bias of paying more attention within frames instead of between frames while saving computational overheads. GSM-FFN further enhances the locality via gated mechanism and factorized spatial-temporal convolutions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms previous methods by $\!>\!0.5$ dB with comparable or fewer parameters and complexity. Autonomous race driving poses a complex control challenge as vehicles must be operated at the edge of their handling limits to reduce lap times while respecting physical and safety constraints. This paper presents a novel reinforcement learning (RL)-based approach, incorporating the action mapping (AM) mechanism to manage state-dependent input constraints arising from limited tire-road friction. A numerical approximation method is proposed to implement AM, addressing the complex dynamics associated with the friction constraints. The AM mechanism also allows the learned driving policy to be generalized to different friction conditions. Experimental results in our developed race simulator demonstrate that the proposed AM-RL approach achieves superior lap times and better success rates compared to the conventional RL-based approaches. The generalization capability of driving policy with AM is also validated in the experiments.

We study the inverse problem of Coded Aperture Snapshot Spectral Imaging (CASSI), which captures a spatial-spectral data cube using snapshot 2D measurements and uses algorithms to reconstruct 3D hyperspectral images (HSI). However, current methods based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) struggle to capture long-range dependencies and non-local similarities. The recently popular Transformer-based methods are poorly deployed on downstream tasks due to the high computational cost caused by self-attention. In this paper, we propose Coarse-Fine Spectral-Aware Deformable Convolution Network (CFSDCN), applying deformable convolutional networks (DCN) to this task for the first time. Considering the sparsity of HSI, we design a deformable convolution module that exploits its deformability to capture long-range dependencies and non-local similarities. In addition, we propose a new spectral information interaction module that considers both coarse-grained and fine-grained spectral similarities. We cast multiview reconstruction from unknown pose as a generative modeling problem. From a collection of unannotated 2D images of a scene, our approach simultaneously learns both a network to predict camera pose from 2D image input, as well as the parameters of a Neural Radiance Field (NeRF) for the 3D scene. To drive learning, we wrap both the pose prediction network and NeRF inside a Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model (DDPM) and train the system via the standard denoising objective. Our framework requires the system accomplish the task of denoising an input 2D image by predicting its pose and rendering the NeRF from that pose. Learning to denoise thus forces the system to concurrently learn the underlying 3D NeRF representation and a mapping from images to camera extrinsic parameters. To facilitate the latter, we design a custom network architecture to represent pose as a distribution, granting implicit capacity for discovering view correspondences when trained end-to-end for denoising alone. This technique allows our system to successfully build NeRFs, without pose knowledge, for challenging scenes where competing methods fail. At the conclusion of training, our learned NeRF can be extracted and used as a 3D scene model; our full system can be used to sample novel camera poses and generate novel-view images.

Low-bit quantization has become widespread for compressing image super-resolution (SR) models for edge deployment, which allows advanced SR models to enjoy compact low-bit parameters and efficient integer/bitwise constructions for storage compression and inference acceleration, respectively. However, it is notorious that low-bit quantization degrades the accuracy of SR models compared to their full-precision (FP) counterparts. Despite several efforts to alleviate the degradation, the transformer-based SR model still suffers severe degradation due to its distinctive activation distribution. In this work, we present a dual-stage low-bit post-training quantization (PTQ) method for image super-resolution, namely 2DQuant, which achieves efficient and accurate SR under low-bit quantization. The proposed method first investigates the weight and activation and finds that the distribution is characterized by coexisting symmetry and asymmetry, long tails. Specifically, we propose Distribution-Oriented Bound Initialization (DOBI), using different searching strategies to search a coarse bound for quantizers. To obtain refined quantizer parameters, we further propose Distillation Quantization Calibration (DQC), which employs a distillation approach to make the quantized model learn from its FP counterpart. Through extensive experiments on different bits and scaling factors, the performance of DOBI can reach the state-of-the-art (SOTA) while after stage two, our method surpasses existing PTQ in both metrics and visual effects. 2DQuant gains an increase in PSNR as high as 4.52dB on Set5 (x2) compared with SOTA when quantized to 2-bit and enjoys a 3.60x compression ratio and 5.08x speedup ratio. Advanced diffusion models (DMs) perform impressively in image super-resolution (SR), but the high memory and computational costs hinder their deployment. Binarization, an ultra-compression algorithm, offers the potential for effectively accelerating DMs. Nonetheless, due to the model structure and the multi-step iterative attribute of DMs, existing binarization methods result in significant performance degradation. In this paper, we introduce a novel binarized diffusion model, BI-DiffSR, for image SR. First, for the model structure, we design a UNet architecture optimized for binarization. We propose the consistent-pixel-downsample (CP-Down) and consistent-pixel-upsample (CP-Up) to maintain dimension consistent and facilitate the full-precision information transfer. Meanwhile, we design the channel-shuffle-fusion (CS-Fusion) to enhance feature fusion in skip connection. Second, for the activation difference across timestep, we design the timestep-aware redistribution (TaR) and activation function (TaA). The TaR and TaA dynamically adjust the distribution of activations based on different timesteps, improving the flexibility and representation alability of the binarized module. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that our BI-DiffSR outperforms existing binarization methods. The fast algorithms in Fourier optics have invigorated multifunctional device design and advanced imaging technologies. However, the necessity for fast computations has led to limitations in the widely used conventional Fourier methods, manifesting as fixed size image plane at a certain diffraction distance. These limitations pose challenges in intricate scaling transformations, 3D reconstructions and full-color displays. Currently, there is a lack of effective solutions, often resorting to pre-processing that compromise fidelity. In this paper, leveraging a higher-dimensional phase space method, we present a universal framework allowing for customized diffraction calculation methods. Within this framework, we establish a variable-scale diffraction computation model which allows the adjustment of the size of the image plane and can be operated by fast algorithms. We validate the model's robust variable-scale capabilities and its aberration automatic correction capability for full-color holography, achieving high fidelity. The large-magnification tomography experiment demonstrates that this model provides a superior solution for holographic 3D reconstruction. In addition, this model is applied to achieve full-color metasurface holography with near-zero crosstalk, showcasing its versatile applicability at nanoscale. Snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) recovers high-dimensional (3D) data cubes from a single 2D measurement, enabling diverse applications like video and hyperspectral imaging to go beyond standard techniques in terms of acquisition speed and efficiency. In this paper, we focus on SCI recovery algorithms that employ untrained neural networks (UNNs), such as deep image prior (DIP), to model source structure. Such UNN-based methods are appealing as they have the potential of avoiding the computationally intensive retraining required for different source models and different measurement scenarios. We first develop a theoretical framework for characterizing the performance of such UNN-based methods. The theoretical framework, on the one hand, enables us to optimize the parameters of data-modulating masks, and on the other hand, provides a fundamental connection between the number of data frames that can be recovered from a single measurement to the parameters of the untrained NN. We also employ the recently proposed bagged-deep-image-prior (bagged-DIP) idea to develop SCI Bagged Deep Video Prior (SCI-BDVP) algorithms that address the common challenges faced by standard UNN solutions. Our experimental results show that in video SCI our proposed solution achieves state-of-the-art among UNN methods, and in the case of noisy measurements, it even outperforms supervised solutions.

Recent attacks on federated learning (FL) can introduce malicious model updates that circumvent widely adopted Euclidean distance-based detection methods. This paper proposes a novel defense strategy, referred to as LayerCAM-AE, designed to counteract model poisoning in federated learning. The LayerCAM-AE puts forth a new Layer Class Activation Mapping (LayerCAM) integrated with an autoencoder (AE), significantly enhancing detection capabilities. Specifically, LayerCAM-AE generates a heat map for each local model update, which is then transformed into a more compact visual format. The autoencoder is designed to process the LayerCAM heat maps from the local model updates, improving their distinctiveness and thereby increasing the accuracy in spotting anomalous maps and malicious local models. To address the risk of misclassifications with LayerCAM-AE, a voting algorithm is developed, where a local model update is flagged as malicious if its heat maps are consistently suspicious over several rounds of communication. Extensive tests of LayerCAM-AE on the SVHN and CIFAR-100 datasets are performed under both Independent and Identically Distributed (IID) and non-IID settings in comparison with existing ResNet-50 and REGNETY-800MF defense models. Experimental results show that LayerCAM-AE increases detection rates (Recall: 1.0, Precision: 1.0, FPR: 0.0, Accuracy: 1.0, F1 score: 1.0, AUC: 1.0) and test accuracy in FL, surpassing the performance of both the ResNet-50 and REGNETY-800MF. Resistive random-access memory (RRAM) is widely recognized as a promising emerging hardware platform for deep neural networks (DNNs). Yet, due to manufacturing limitations, current RRAM devices are highly susceptible to hardware defects, which poses a significant challenge to their practical applicability. In this paper, we present a machine learning technique that enables the deployment of defect-prone RRAM accelerators for DNN applications, without necessitating modifying the hardware, retraining of the neural network, or implementing additional detection circuitry/logic. The key idea involves incorporating a drop-connect inspired approach during the training phase of a DNN, where random subsets of weights are selected to emulate fault effects (e.g., set to zero to mimic stuck-at-1 faults), thereby equipping the DNN with the ability to learn and adapt to RRAM defects with the corresponding fault rates. Our results demonstrate the viability of the drop-connect approach, coupled with various algorithm and system-level design and trade-off considerations. We show that, even in the presence of high defect rates (e.g., up to 30%), the degradation of DNN accuracy can be as low as less than 1% compared to that of the fault-free version, while incurring minimal system-level runtime/energy costs.

This paper puts forth a new training data-untethered model poisoning (MP) attack on federated learning (FL). The new MP attack extends an adversarial variational graph autoencoder (VGAE) to create malicious local models based solely on the benign local models overheard without any access to the training data of FL. Such an advancement leads to the VGAE-MP attack that is not only efficacious but also remains elusive to detection. VGAE-MP attack extracts graph structural correlations among the benign local models and the training data features, adversarially regenerates the graph structure, and generates malicious local models using the adversarial graph structure and benign models' features. Moreover, a new attacking algorithm is presented to train the malicious local models using VGAE and sub-gradient descent, while enabling an optimal selection of the benign local models for training the VGAE. Experiments demonstrate a gradual drop in FL accuracy under the proposed VGAE-MP attack and the ineffectiveness of existing defense mechanisms in detecting the attack, posing a severe threat to FL., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, 2 tables

Video snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) aims to capture a sequence of video frames with only a single shot of a 2D detector, whose backbones rest in optical modulation patterns (also known as masks) and a computational reconstruction algorithm. Advanced deep learning algorithms and mature hardware are putting video SCI into practical applications. Yet, there are two clouds in the sunshine of SCI: i) low dynamic range as a victim of high temporal multiplexing, and ii) existing deep learning algorithms' degradation on real system. To address these challenges, this paper presents a deep optics framework to jointly optimize masks and a reconstruction network. Specifically, we first propose a new type of structural mask to realize motion-aware and full-dynamic-range measurement. Considering the motion awareness property in measurement domain, we develop an efficient network for video SCI reconstruction using Transformer to capture long-term temporal dependencies, dubbed Res2former. Moreover, sensor response is introduced into the forward model of video SCI to guarantee end-to-end model training close to real system. Finally, we implement the learned structural masks on a digital micro-mirror device. Experimental results on synthetic and real data validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. Single-pixel imaging (SPI) is a potential computational imaging technique which produces image by solving an illposed reconstruction problem from few measurements captured by a single-pixel detector. Deep learning has achieved impressive success on SPI reconstruction. However, previous poor reconstruction performance and impractical imaging model limit its real-world applications. In this paper, we propose a deep unfolding network with hybrid-attention Transformer on Kronecker SPI model, dubbed HATNet, to improve the imaging quality of real SPI cameras. Specifically, we unfold the computation graph of the iterative shrinkagethresholding algorithm (ISTA) into two alternative modules: efficient tensor gradient descent and hybrid-attention multiscale denoising. By virtue of Kronecker SPI, the gradient descent module can avoid high computational overheads rooted in previous gradient descent modules based on vectorized SPI. The denoising module is an encoder-decoder architecture powered by dual-scale spatial attention for high- and low-frequency aggregation and channel attention for global information recalibration. Moreover, we build a SPI prototype to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real data demonstrate that our method achieves the state-of-the-art performance. In this paper, we explore the potential of Snapshot Compressive Imaging (SCI) technique for recovering the underlying 3D scene representation from a single temporal compressed image. SCI is a cost-effective method that enables the recording of high-dimensional data, such as hyperspectral or temporal information, into a single image using low-cost 2D imaging sensors. To achieve this, a series of specially designed 2D masks are usually employed, which not only reduces storage requirements but also offers potential privacy protection. Inspired by this, to take one step further, our approach builds upon the powerful 3D scene representation capabilities of neural radiance fields (NeRF). Specifically, we formulate the physical imaging process of SCI as part of the training of NeRF, allowing us to exploit its impressive performance in capturing complex scene structures. To assess the effectiveness of our method, we conduct extensive evaluations using both synthetic data and real data captured by our SCI system. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach surpasses the state-of-the-art methods in terms of image reconstruction and novel view image synthesis. Moreover, our method also exhibits the ability to restore high frame-rate multi-view consistent images by leveraging SCI and the rendering capabilities of NeRF. Recently, deep neural networks have achieved excellent performance on low-light raw video enhancement. However, they often come with high computational complexity and large memory costs, which hinder their applications on resource-limited devices. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of applying the extremely compact binary neural network (BNN) to low-light raw video enhancement. Nevertheless, there are two main issues with binarizing video enhancement models. One is how to fuse the temporal information to improve low-light denoising without complex modules. The other is how to narrow the performance gap between binary convolutions with the full precision ones. To address the first issue, we introduce a spatial-temporal shift operation, which is easy-to-binarize and effective. The temporal shift efficiently aggregates the features of neighbor frames and the spatial shift handles the misalignment caused by the large motion in videos. For the second issue, we present a distribution-aware binary convolution, which captures the distribution characteristics of real-valued input and incorporates them into plain binary convolutions to alleviate the degradation in performance. Following OpenAI's introduction of GPTs, a surge in GPT apps has led to the launch of dedicated LLM app stores. Nevertheless, given its debut, there is a lack of sufficient understanding of this new ecosystem. To fill this gap, this paper presents a first comprehensive longitudinal (5-month) study of the evolution, landscape, and vulnerability of the emerging LLM app ecosystem, focusing on two GPT app stores: \textit{GPTStore.AI} and the official \textit{OpenAI GPT Store}. Specifically, we develop two automated tools and a TriLevel configuration extraction strategy to efficiently gather metadata (\ie names, creators, descriptions, \etc) and user feedback for all GPT apps across these two stores, as well as configurations (\ie system prompts, knowledge files, and APIs) for the top 10,000 popular apps. Our extensive analysis reveals: (1) the user enthusiasm for GPT apps consistently rises, whereas creator interest plateaus within three months of GPTs' launch; (2) nearly 90\% system prompts can be easily accessed due to widespread failure to secure GPT app configurations, leading to considerable plagiarism and duplication among apps. Our findings highlight the necessity of enhancing the LLM app ecosystem by the app stores, creators, and users.

The advent of communication technologies marks a transformative phase in critical infrastructure construction, where the meticulous analysis of failures becomes paramount in achieving the fundamental objectives of continuity, security, and availability. This survey enriches the discourse on failures, failure analysis, and countermeasures in the context of the next-generation critical communication infrastructures. Through an exhaustive examination of existing literature, we discern and categorize prominent research orientations with focuses on, namely resource depletion, security vulnerabilities, and system availability concerns. We also analyze constructive countermeasures tailored to address identified failure scenarios and their prevention. Furthermore, the survey emphasizes the imperative for standardization in addressing failures related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the ambit of the sixth-generation (6G) networks, accounting for the forward-looking perspective for the envisioned intelligence of 6G network architecture. By identifying new challenges and delineating future research directions, this survey can help guide stakeholders toward unexplored territories, fostering innovation and resilience in critical communication infrastructure development and failure prevention.

With the rapid proliferation of large Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations, a huge amount of in-orbit data is generated and needs to be transmitted to the ground for processing. However, traditional LEO satellite constellations, which downlink raw data to the ground, are significantly restricted in transmission capability. Orbital edge computing (OEC), which exploits the computation capacities of LEO satellites and processes the raw data in orbit, is envisioned as a promising solution to relieve the downlink burden. Yet, with OEC, the bottleneck is shifted to the inelastic computation capacities. The computational bottleneck arises from two primary challenges that existing satellite systems have not adequately addressed: the inability to process all captured images and the limited energy supply available for satellite operations. In this work, we seek to fully exploit the scarce satellite computation and communication resources to achieve satellite-ground collaboration and present a satellite-ground collaborative system named TargetFuse for onboard object detection. TargetFuse incorporates a combination of techniques to minimize detection errors under energy and bandwidth constraints. Extensive experiments show that TargetFuse can reduce detection errors by 3.4 times on average, compared to onboard computing. We propose an efficient diffusion-based text-to-video super-resolution (SR) tuning approach that leverages the readily learned capacity of pixel level image diffusion model to capture spatial information for video generation. To accomplish this goal, we design an efficient architecture by inflating the weightings of the text-to-image SR model into our video generation framework. Additionally, we incorporate a temporal adapter to ensure temporal coherence across video frames. We investigate different tuning approaches based on our inflated architecture and report trade-offs between computational costs and super-resolution quality. Empirical evaluation, both quantitative and qualitative, on the Shutterstock video dataset, demonstrates that our approach is able to perform text-to-video SR generation with good visual quality and temporal consistency. Video Captioning (VC) is a challenging multi-modal task since it requires describing the scene in language by understanding various and complex videos. For machines, the traditional VC follows the "imaging-compression-decoding-and-then-captioning" pipeline, where compression is pivot for storage and transmission. However, in such a pipeline, some potential shortcomings are inevitable, i.e., information redundancy resulting in low efficiency and information loss during the sampling process for captioning. To address these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel VC pipeline to generate captions directly from the compressed measurement, which can be captured by a snapshot compressive sensing camera and we dub our model SnapCap. To be more specific, benefiting from the signal simulation, we have access to obtain abundant measurement-video-annotation data pairs for our model. Besides, to better extract language-related visual representations from the compressed measurement, we propose to distill the knowledge from videos via a pre-trained CLIP with plentiful language-vision associations to guide the learning of our SnapCap. To demonstrate the effectiveness of SnapCap, we conduct experiments on two widely-used VC datasets. Both the qualitative and quantitative results verify the superiority of our pipeline over conventional VC pipelines. The edge intelligence (EI) has been widely applied recently. Spliting the model between device, edge server, and cloud can improve the performance of EI greatly. The model segmentation without user mobility has been investigated deeply by previous works. However, in most use cases of EI, the end devices are mobile. Only a few works have been carried out on this aspect. These works still have many issues, such as ignoring the energy consumption of mobile device, inappropriate network assumption, and low effectiveness on adaptiving user mobility, etc. Therefore, for addressing the disadvantages of model segmentation and resource allocation in previous works, we propose mobility and cost aware model segmentation and resource allocation algorithm for accelerating the inference at edge (MCSA). Specfically, in the scenario without user mobility, the loop interation gradient descent (Li-GD) algorithm is provided. When the mobile user has a large model inference task needs to be calculated, it will take the energy consumption of mobile user, the communication and computing resource renting cost, and the inference delay into account to find the optimal model segmentation and resource allocation strategy. In the scenario with user mobility, the mobiity aware Li-GD (MLi-GD) algorithm is proposed to calculate the optimal strategy. Then, the properties of the proposed algorithms are investigated, including convergence, complexity, and approximation ratio. In recent years, the results of view-based 3D shape recognition methods have saturated, and models with excellent performance cannot be deployed on memory-limited devices due to their huge size of parameters. To address this problem, we introduce a compression method based on knowledge distillation for this field, which largely reduces the number of parameters while preserving model performance as much as possible. Specifically, to enhance the capabilities of smaller models, we design a high-performing large model called Group Multi-view Vision Transformer (GMViT). In GMViT, the view-level ViT first establishes relationships between view-level features. Additionally, to capture deeper features, we employ the grouping module to enhance view-level features into group-level features. Finally, the group-level ViT aggregates group-level features into complete, well-formed 3D shape descriptors. Notably, in both ViTs, we introduce spatial encoding of camera coordinates as innovative position embeddings. Furthermore, we propose two compressed versions based on GMViT, namely GMViT-simple and GMViT-mini. To enhance the training effectiveness of the small models, we introduce a knowledge distillation method throughout the GMViT process, where the key outputs of each GMViT component serve as distillation targets. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method. The large model GMViT achieves excellent 3D classification and retrieval results on the benchmark datasets ModelNet, ShapeNetCore55, and MCB. The smaller models, GMViT-simple and GMViT-mini, reduce the parameter size by 8 and 17.6 times, respectively, and improve shape recognition speed by 1.5 times on average, while preserving at least 90% of the classification and retrieval performance. Splitting the inference model between device, edge server, and cloud can improve the performance of EI greatly. Additionally, the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), which is the key supporting technologies of B5G/6G, can achieve massive connections and high spectrum efficiency. Motivated by the benefits of NOMA, integrating NOMA with model split in MEC to reduce the inference latency further becomes attractive. However, the NOMA based communication during split inference has not been properly considered in previous works. Therefore, in this paper, we integrate the NOMA into split inference in MEC, and propose the effective communication and computing resource allocation algorithm to accelerate the model inference at edge. Specifically, when the mobile user has a large model inference task needed to be calculated in the NOMA-based MEC, it will take the energy consumption of both device and edge server and the inference latency into account to find the optimal model split strategy, subchannel allocation strategy (uplink and downlink), and transmission power allocation strategy (uplink and downlink). Since the minimum inference delay and energy consumption cannot be satisfied simultaneously, and the variables of subchannel allocation and model split are discrete, the gradient descent (GD) algorithm is adopted to find the optimal tradeoff between them. Moreover, the loop iteration GD approach (Li-GD) is proposed to reduce the complexity of GD algorithm that caused by the parameter discrete. Mobile edge computing (MEC) can reduce the latency of cloud computing successfully. However, the edge server may fail due to the hardware of software issues. When the edge server failure happens, the users who offload tasks to this server will be affected. How to recover the services for these affected users quickly and effectively is challenging. Moreover, considering that the server failure is continuous and temporary, and the failed server can be repaired, the previous works cannot handle this problem effectively. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the fast, online, distributed, and temporary failure recovery algorithm (FODT) for MEC. In FODT, when edge sever failure happens, only the affected APs recalculate their user-server allocation strategies and the other APs do not change their strategies. For the affected access points (Aps), the strategies before server failure are reused to reduce complexity and latency. When the failed server is repaired, the influenced APs reuse the strategies before server failure to offload task to this server. Based on this approach, the FODT can achieve better performance than previous works. 3D whole-body human mesh recovery aims to reconstruct the 3D human body, face, and hands from a single image. Although powerful deep learning models have achieved accurate estimation in this task, they require enormous memory and computational resources. Consequently, these methods can hardly be deployed on resource-limited edge devices. In this work, we propose a Binarized Dual Residual Network (BiDRN), a novel quantization method to estimate the 3D human body, face, and hands parameters efficiently. Specifically, we design a basic unit Binarized Dual Residual Block (BiDRB) composed of Local Convolution Residual (LCR) and Block Residual (BR), which can preserve full-precision information as much as possible. For LCR, we generalize it to four kinds of convolutional modules so that full-precision information can be propagated even between mismatched dimensions. We also binarize the face and hands box-prediction network as Binaried BoxNet, which can further reduce the model redundancy. Comprehensive quantitative and qualitative experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of BiDRN, which has a significant improvement over state-of-the-art binarization algorithms. Moreover, our proposed BiDRN achieves comparable performance with full-precision method Hand4Whole while using just 22.1% parameters and 14.8% operations. Image super-resolution (SR) methods typically model degradation to improve reconstruction accuracy in complex and unknown degradation scenarios. However, extracting degradation information from low-resolution images is challenging, which limits the model performance. To boost image SR performance, one feasible approach is to introduce additional priors. Inspired by advancements in multi-modal methods and text prompt image processing, we introduce text prompts to image SR to provide degradation priors. Specifically, we first design a text-image generation pipeline to integrate text into the SR dataset through the text degradation representation and degradation model. The text representation applies a discretization manner based on the binning method to describe the degradation abstractly. This method maintains the flexibility of the text and is user-friendly. Meanwhile, we propose the PromptSR to realize the text prompt SR. The PromptSR utilizes the pre-trained language model (e.g., T5 or CLIP) to enhance restoration. We train the model on the generated text-image dataset. Extensive experiments indicate that introducing text prompts into SR, yields excellent results on both synthetic and real-world images. Snapshot compressive spectral imaging reconstruction aims to reconstruct three-dimensional spatial-spectral images from a single-shot two-dimensional compressed measurement. Existing state-of-the-art methods are mostly based on deep unfolding structures but have intrinsic performance bottlenecks: $i$) the ill-posed problem of dealing with heavily degraded measurement, and $ii$) the regression loss-based reconstruction models being prone to recover images with few details. In this paper, we introduce a generative model, namely the latent diffusion model (LDM), to generate degradation-free prior to enhance the regression-based deep unfolding method. Furthermore, to overcome the large computational cost challenge in LDM, we propose a lightweight model to generate knowledge priors in deep unfolding denoiser, and integrate these priors to guide the reconstruction process for compensating high-quality spectral signal details. Numeric and visual comparisons on synthetic and real-world datasets illustrate the superiority of our proposed method in both reconstruction quality and computational efficiency. Recent quantization techniques have enabled heterogeneous precisions at very fine granularity, e.g., each parameter/activation can take on a different precision, resulting in compact neural networks without sacrificing accuracy. However, there is a lack of efficient architectural support for such networks, which require additional hardware to decode the precision settings for individual variables, align the variables, and provide fine-grained mixed-precision compute capabilities. The complexity of these operations introduces high overheads. Thus, the improvements in inference latency/energy of these networks are not commensurate with the compression ratio, and may be inferior to larger quantized networks with uniform precisions. We present an end-to-end co-design approach encompassing computer architecture, training algorithm, and inference optimization to efficiently execute networks with fine-grained heterogeneous precisions. The key to our approach is a novel training algorithm designed to accommodate hardware constraints and inference operation requirements, outputting networks with input-channel-wise heterogeneous precisions and at most three precision levels. Combined with inference optimization techniques, existing architectures with low-cost enhancements can support such networks efficiently, yielding optimized tradeoffs between accuracy, compression ratio and inference latency/energy. We demonstrate the efficacy of our approach across CPU and GPU architectures. For various representative neural networks, our approach achieves >10x improvements in both compression ratio and inference latency, with negligible degradation in accuracy compared to full-precision networks.

The objective of differential privacy (DP) is to protect privacy by producing an output distribution that is indistinguishable between any two neighboring databases. However, traditional differentially private mechanisms tend to produce unbounded outputs in order to achieve maximum disturbance range, which is not always in line with real-world applications. Existing solutions attempt to address this issue by employing post-processing or truncation techniques to restrict the output results, but at the cost of introducing bias issues. In this paper, we propose a novel differentially private mechanism which uses a composite probability density function to generate bounded and unbiased outputs for any numerical input data. The composition consists of an activation function and a base function, providing users with the flexibility to define the functions according to the DP constraints. We also develop an optimization algorithm that enables the iterative search for the optimal hyper-parameter setting without the need for repeated experiments, which prevents additional privacy overhead. Furthermore, we evaluate the utility of the proposed mechanism by assessing the variance of the composite probability density function and introducing two alternative metrics that are simpler to compute than variance estimation. Our extensive evaluation on three benchmark datasets demonstrates consistent and significant improvement over the traditional Laplace and Gaussian mechanisms. Mis- and disinformation online have become a major societal problem as major sources of online harms of different kinds. One common form of mis- and disinformation is out-of-context (OOC) information, where different pieces of information are falsely associated, e.g., a real image combined with a false textual caption or a misleading textual description. Although some past studies have attempted to defend against OOC mis- and disinformation through external evidence, they tend to disregard the role of different pieces of evidence with different stances. Motivated by the intuition that the stance of evidence represents a bias towards different detection results, we propose a stance extraction network (SEN) that can extract the stances of different pieces of multi-modal evidence in a unified framework. Moreover, we introduce a support-refutation score calculated based on the co-occurrence relations of named entities into the textual SEN. Extensive experiments on a public large-scale dataset demonstrated that our proposed method outperformed the state-of-the-art baselines, with the best model achieving a performance gain of 3.2% in accuracy., Comment: Accepted and published by EMNLP 2023. In this paper, we propose a joint single-base localization and communication enhancement scheme for the uplink (UL) integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) system with asynchronism, which can achieve accurate single-base localization of user equipment (UE) and significantly improve the communication reliability despite the existence of timing offset (TO) due to the clock asynchronism between UE and base station (BS). Our proposed scheme integrates the CSI enhancement into the multiple signal classification (MUSIC)-based AoA estimation and thus imposes no extra complexity on the ISAC system. We further exploit a MUSIC-based range estimation method and prove that it can suppress the time-varying TO-related phase terms. Exploiting the AoA and range estimation of UE, we can estimate the location of UE. Finally, we propose a joint CSI and data signals-based localization scheme that can coherently exploit the data and the CSI signals to improve the AoA and range estimation, which further enhances the single-base localization of UE. The extensive simulation results show that the enhanced CSI can achieve equivalent bit error rate performance to the minimum mean square error (MMSE) CSI estimator. As the uplink sensing has the advantage of easy implementation, it attracts great attention in integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system. This paper presents an uplink ISAC system based on multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) technology. The mutual information (MI) is introduced as a unified metric to evaluate the performance of communication and sensing. In this paper, firstly, the upper and lower bounds of communication and sensing MI are derived in details based on the interaction between communication and sensing. And the ISAC waveform is optimized by maximizing the weighted sum of sensing and communication MI. The Monte Carlo simulation results show that, compared with other waveform optimization schemes, the proposed ISAC scheme has the best overall performance.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is regarded as the enabling technology in the future 5th-Generation-Advanced (5G-A) and 6th-Generation (6G) mobile communication system. ISAC waveform design is critical in ISAC system. However, the difference of the performance metrics between sensing and communication brings challenges for the ISAC waveform design. This paper applies the unified performance metrics in information theory, namely mutual information (MI), to measure the communication and sensing performance in multicarrier ISAC system. In multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) ISAC system, we first derive the sensing and communication MI with subcarrier correlation and spatial correlation. Then, we propose optimal waveform designs for maximizing the sensing MI, communication MI and the weighted sum of sensing and communication MI, respectively. The optimization results are validated by Monte Carlo simulations. Our work provides effective closed-form expressions for waveform design, enabling the realization of MIMO-OFDM ISAC system with balanced performance in communication and sensing.

In the sixth generation (6G) era, intelligent machine network (IMN) applications, such as intelligent transportation, require collaborative machines with communication, sensing, and computation (CSC) capabilities. This article proposes an integrated communication, sensing, and computation (ICSAC) framework for 6G to achieve the reciprocity among CSC functions to enhance the reliability and latency of communication, accuracy and timeliness of sensing information acquisition, and privacy and security of computing to realize the IMN applications. Specifically, the sensing and communication functions can merge into unified platforms using the same transmit signals, and the acquired real-time sensing information can be exploited as prior information for intelligent algorithms to enhance the performance of communication networks. This is called the computing-empowered integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) reciprocity. Such reciprocity can further improve the performance of distributed computation with the assistance of networked sensing capability, which is named the sensing-empowered integrated communications and computation (ICAC) reciprocity. The above ISAC and ICAC reciprocities can enhance each other iteratively and finally lead to the ICSAC reciprocity. To achieve these reciprocities, we explore the potential enabling technologies for the ICSAC framework. We develop a neural network architecture which, trained in an unsupervised manner as a denoising diffusion model, simultaneously learns to both generate and segment images. Learning is driven entirely by the denoising diffusion objective, without any annotation or prior knowledge about regions during training. A computational bottleneck, built into the neural architecture, encourages the denoising network to partition an input into regions, denoise them in parallel, and combine the results. Our trained model generates both synthetic images and, by simple examination of its internal predicted partitions, a semantic segmentation of those images. Without any finetuning, we directly apply our unsupervised model to the downstream task of segmenting real images via noising and subsequently denoising them. Experiments demonstrate that our model achieves accurate unsupervised image segmentation and high-quality synthetic image generation across multiple datasets.

Safety controllers is widely used to achieve safe reinforcement learning. Most methods that apply a safety controller are using handcrafted safety constraints to construct the safety controller. However, when the environment dynamics are sophisticated, handcrafted safety constraints become unavailable. Therefore, it worth to research on constructing safety controllers by learning algorithms. We propose a three-stage architecture for safe reinforcement learning, namely TU-Recovery Architecture. A safety critic and a recovery policy is learned before task training. They form a safety controller to ensure safety in task training. Then a phenomenon induced by disagreement between task policy and recovery policy, called adversarial phenomenon, which reduces learning efficiency and model performance, is described. Auxiliary reward is proposed to mitigate adversarial phenomenon, while help the task policy to learn to recover from high-risk states. A series of experiments are conducted in a robot navigation environment. Experiments demonstrate that TU-Recovery outperforms unconstrained counterpart in both reward gaining and constraint violations during task training, and auxiliary reward further improve TU-Recovery in reward-to-cost ratio by significantly reduce constraint violations.

In today's landscape, smartphones have evolved into hubs for hosting a multitude of deep learning models aimed at local execution. A key realization driving this work is the notable fragmentation among these models, characterized by varied architectures, operators, and implementations. This fragmentation imposes a significant burden on the comprehensive optimization of hardware, system settings, and algorithms. Buoyed by the recent strides in large foundation models, this work introduces a pioneering paradigm for mobile AI: a collaborative management approach between the mobile OS and hardware, overseeing a foundational model capable of serving a broad spectrum of mobile AI tasks, if not all. This foundational model resides within the NPU and remains impervious to app or OS revisions, akin to firmware. Concurrently, each app contributes a concise, offline fine-tuned "adapter" tailored to distinct downstream tasks. From this concept emerges a concrete instantiation known as \sys. It amalgamates a curated selection of publicly available Large Language Models (LLMs) and facilitates dynamic data flow. This concept's viability is substantiated through the creation of an exhaustive benchmark encompassing 38 mobile AI tasks spanning 50 datasets, including domains such as Computer Vision (CV), Natural Language Processing (NLP), audio, sensing, and multimodal inputs. Spanning this benchmark, \sys unveils its impressive performance. It attains accuracy parity in 85\% of tasks, demonstrates improved scalability in terms of storage and memory, and offers satisfactory inference speed on Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) mobile devices fortified with NPU support. In this paper, we study the denoising diffusion probabilistic model (DDPM) in wavelet space, instead of pixel space, for visual synthesis. Considering the wavelet transform represents the image in spatial and frequency domains, we carefully design a novel architecture SFUNet to effectively capture the correlation for both domains. Specifically, in the standard denoising U-Net for pixel data, we supplement the 2D convolutions and spatial-only attention layers with our spatial frequency-aware convolution and attention modules to jointly model the complementary information from spatial and frequency domains in wavelet data. Our new architecture can be used as a drop-in replacement to the pixel-based network and is compatible with the vanilla DDPM training process. By explicitly modeling the wavelet signals, we find our model is able to generate images with higher quality on CIFAR-10, FFHQ, LSUN-Bedroom, and LSUN-Church datasets, than the pixel-based counterpart.

In recent years, ubiquitous semantic Metaverse has been studied to revolutionize immersive cyber-virtual experiences for augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) users, which leverages advanced semantic understanding and representation to enable seamless, context-aware interactions within mixed-reality environments. This survey focuses on the intelligence and spatio-temporal characteristics of four fundamental system components in ubiquitous semantic Metaverse, i.e., artificial intelligence (AI), spatio-temporal data representation (STDR), semantic Internet of Things (SIoT), and semantic-enhanced digital twin (SDT). We thoroughly survey the representative techniques of the four fundamental system components that enable intelligent, personalized, and context-aware interactions with typical use cases of the ubiquitous semantic Metaverse, such as remote education, work and collaboration, entertainment and socialization, healthcare, and e-commerce marketing. Furthermore, we outline the opportunities for constructing the future ubiquitous semantic Metaverse, including scalability and interoperability, privacy and security, performance measurement and standardization, as well as ethical considerations and responsible AI. We develop an approach to efficiently grow neural networks, within which parameterization and optimization strategies are designed by considering their effects on the training dynamics. Unlike existing growing methods, which follow simple replication heuristics or utilize auxiliary gradient-based local optimization, we craft a parameterization scheme which dynamically stabilizes weight, activation, and gradient scaling as the architecture evolves, and maintains the inference functionality of the network. To address the optimization difficulty resulting from imbalanced training effort distributed to subnetworks fading in at different growth phases, we propose a learning rate adaption mechanism that rebalances the gradient contribution of these separate subcomponents. Experimental results show that our method achieves comparable or better accuracy than training large fixed-size models, while saving a substantial portion of the original computation budget for training. We demonstrate that these gains translate into real wall-clock training speedups.

We consider the problem of video snapshot compressive imaging (SCI), where sequential high-speed frames are modulated by different masks and captured by a single measurement. The underlying principle of reconstructing multi-frame images from only one single measurement is to solve an ill-posed problem. By combining optimization algorithms and neural networks, deep unfolding networks (DUNs) score tremendous achievements in solving inverse problems. In this paper, our proposed model is under the DUN framework and we propose a 3D Convolution-Transformer Mixture (CTM) module with a 3D efficient and scalable attention model plugged in, which helps fully learn the correlation between temporal and spatial dimensions by virtue of Transformer. To our best knowledge, this is the first time that Transformer is employed to video SCI reconstruction. Besides, to further investigate the high-frequency information during the reconstruction process which are neglected in previous studies, we introduce variance estimation characterizing the uncertainty on a pixel-by-pixel basis. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) (with a 1.2dB gain in PSNR over previous SOTA algorithm) results. We will release the code.

Snapshot compressive imaging emerges as a promising technology for acquiring real-world hyperspectral signals. It uses an optical encoder and compressively produces the 2D measurement, followed by which the 3D hyperspectral data can be retrieved via training a deep reconstruction network. Existing reconstruction models are trained with a single hardware instance, whose performance is vulnerable to hardware perturbation or replacement, demonstrating an overfitting issue to the physical configuration. This defect limits the deployment of pre-trained models since they would suffer from large performance degradation when are assembled to unseen hardware. To better facilitate the reconstruction model with new hardware, previous efforts resort to centralized training by collecting multi-hardware and data, which is impractical when dealing with proprietary assets among institutions. In light of this, federated learning (FL) has become a feasible solution to enable cross-hardware cooperation without breaking privacy. However, the naive FedAvg is subject to client drift upon data heterogeneity owning to the hardware inconsistency. In this work, we tackle this challenge by marrying prompt tuning with FL to snapshot compressive imaging for the first time and propose an federated hardware-prompt learning (FedHP) method. Rather than mitigating the client drift by rectifying the gradients, which only takes effect on the learning manifold but fails to touch the heterogeneity rooted in the input data space, the proposed FedHP globally learns a hardware-conditioned prompter to align the data distribution, which serves as an indicator of the data inconsistency stemming from different pre-defined coded apertures. In this paper, we propose a novel complex convolutional neural network (CNN) CSI enhancer for integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), which exploits the correlation between the sensing parameters (such as angle-of-arrival and range) and the channel state information (CSI) to significantly improve the CSI estimation accuracy and further enhance the sensing accuracy. Within the CNN CSI enhancer, we use the complex-valued computation layers to form the CNN, which maintains the phase information of CSI. We also transform the CSI into the sparse angle-delay domain, leading to heatmap images with prominent peaks that can be efficiently processed by CNN. Based on the enhanced CSI outputs, we further propose a novel biased fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based sensing scheme for improving the range sensing accuracy, by artificially introducing phase biasing terms. Extensive simulation results show that the ISAC complex CNN CSI enhancer can converge within 30 training epochs. The normalized mean square error (NMSE) of its CSI estimates is about 17 dB lower than that of the linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) estimator, and the bit error rate (BER) of demodulation using the enhanced CSI estimation approaches that with perfect CSI. Diffusion models (DMs) have recently been introduced in image deblurring and exhibited promising performance, particularly in terms of details reconstruction. However, the diffusion model requires a large number of inference iterations to recover the clean image from pure Gaussian noise, which consumes massive computational resources. Moreover, the distribution synthesized by the diffusion model is often misaligned with the target results, leading to restrictions in distortion-based metrics. To address the above issues, we propose the Hierarchical Integration Diffusion Model (HI-Diff), for realistic image deblurring. Specifically, we perform the DM in a highly compacted latent space to generate the prior feature for the deblurring process. The deblurring process is implemented by a regression-based method to obtain better distortion accuracy. Meanwhile, the highly compact latent space ensures the efficiency of the DM. Furthermore, we design the hierarchical integration module to fuse the prior into the regression-based model from multiple scales, enabling better generalization in complex blurry scenarios. Comprehensive experiments on synthetic and real-world blur datasets demonstrate that our HI-Diff outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Video snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) uses a two-dimensional detector to capture consecutive video frames during a single exposure time. Following this, an efficient reconstruction algorithm needs to be designed to reconstruct the desired video frames. Although recent deep learning-based state-of-the-art (SOTA) reconstruction algorithms have achieved good results in most tasks, they still face the following challenges due to excessive model complexity and GPU memory limitations: 1) these models need high computational cost, and 2) they are usually unable to reconstruct large-scale video frames at high compression ratios. To address these issues, we develop an efficient network for video SCI by using dense connections and space-time factorization mechanism within a single residual block, dubbed EfficientSCI. The EfficientSCI network can well establish spatial-temporal correlation by using convolution in the spatial domain and Transformer in the temporal domain, respectively. We are the first time to show that an UHD color video with high compression ratio can be reconstructed from a snapshot 2D measurement using a single end-to-end deep learning model with PSNR above 32 dB. Extensive results on both simulation and real data show that our method significantly outperforms all previous SOTA algorithms with better real-time performance. Existing deep learning models for hyperspectral image (HSI) reconstruction achieve good performance but require powerful hardwares with enormous memory and computational resources. Consequently, these methods can hardly be deployed on resource-limited mobile devices. In this paper, we propose a novel method, Binarized Spectral-Redistribution Network (BiSRNet), for efficient and practical HSI restoration from compressed measurement in snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) systems. Firstly, we redesign a compact and easy-to-deploy base model to be binarized. Then we present the basic unit, Binarized Spectral-Redistribution Convolution (BiSR-Conv). BiSR-Conv can adaptively redistribute the HSI representations before binarizing activation and uses a scalable hyperbolic tangent function to closer approximate the Sign function in backpropagation. Based on our BiSR-Conv, we customize four binarized convolutional modules to address the dimension mismatch and propagate full-precision information throughout the whole network. Finally, our BiSRNet is derived by using the proposed techniques to binarize the base model. Comprehensive quantitative and qualitative experiments manifest that our proposed BiSRNet outperforms state-of-the-art binarization methods and achieves comparable performance with full-precision algorithms. Machine Learning (ML) models have been shown to potentially leak sensitive information, thus raising privacy concerns in ML-driven applications. This inspired recent research on removing the influence of specific data samples from a trained ML model. Such efficient removal would enable ML to comply with the "right to be forgotten" in many legislation, and could also address performance bottlenecks from low-quality or poisonous samples. In that context, machine unlearning methods have been proposed to erase the contributions of designated data samples on models, as an alternative to the often impracticable approach of retraining models from scratch. This article presents a comprehensive review of recent machine unlearning techniques, verification mechanisms, and potential attacks. We further highlight emerging challenges and prospective research directions (e.g. resilience and fairness concerns). Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) are vulnerable to adversarial examples, while adversarial attack models, e.g., DeepFool, are on the rise and outrunning adversarial example detection techniques. This paper presents a new adversarial example detector that outperforms state-of-the-art detectors in identifying the latest adversarial attacks on image datasets. Specifically, we propose to use sentiment analysis for adversarial example detection, qualified by the progressively manifesting impact of an adversarial perturbation on the hidden-layer feature maps of a DNN under attack. Accordingly, we design a modularized embedding layer with the minimum learnable parameters to embed the hidden-layer feature maps into word vectors and assemble sentences ready for sentiment analysis. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the new detector consistently surpasses the state-of-the-art detection algorithms in detecting the latest attacks launched against ResNet and Inception neutral networks on the CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100 and SVHN datasets. The detector only has about 2 million parameters, and takes shorter than 4.6 milliseconds to detect an adversarial example generated by the latest attack models using a Tesla K80 GPU card.
