The architecture and masses of planetary systems in the habitable zone could be strongly influenced by outer giant planets, if present. We investigate here the impact of outer giants on terrestrial planet formation, under the assumption that the final assembly of the planetary system is set by a giant impact phase. Utilizing a state-of-the-art N-body simulation software, GENGA, we interpret how the late stage of terrestrial planet formation results in diversity within planetary systems. We design two global model setups: in the first we place a gas giant on the outer side of planetesimals and embryos disk, while the other only has planetesimals and embryos but no giant. For the model including the outer giant, we study the effect of different giant initial masses, in the range 1.0-3.0 Jupiter mass, and orbital radii, in the range 2.0-5.8 AU.We also study the influence of different initial positions of planetesimals and embryos on the results. Our N-body simulation time is approximately 50 Myr. The results show that the existence of outer giant will promote the interaction between planetesimals and embryos, making the orbits of the formed terrestrial planets more compact, but placing the giant planet too close to the planetesimals and embryos disk suppresses the formation of massive rocky planets. In addition, under the classical theory, where planetary embryos and planetesimals collide to form terrestrial planets, our results show that the presence of a giant planet actually decreases the gap complexity of the inner planetary system., Comment: 12 pages, 15 figures

Gravitational lensing effect is one of most significant observational probes to investigate compact dark matter/objects over a wide mass range. In this work, we first propose to derive the population information and the abundance of supermassive compact dark matter in the mass range $\sim10^5-10^7~M_{\odot}$ from 6 millilensed gamma-ray burst (GRB) candidates in 3000 Fermi GRB events using the hierarchical Bayesian inference method. We obtain that, for the mass range $\sim10^5-10^7~M_{\odot}$, the abundance of supermassive compact dark matter is $f_{\rm CO}=10^{-1.60}$ in the log-normal mass distribution scenario. This result is in obvious tension with some other observational constraints, e.g. ultra-faint dwarfs and dynamical friction. However, it also was argued that there is only one system in these 6 candidates has been identified as lensed GRB event with fairly high confidence. In this case, the tension would be significantly alleviated. We derive the initial spin period distribution of neutron stars by studying the population of young pulsars associated with supernova remnants. Our hierarchical Bayesian approach accounts for the measurement uncertainties of individual observations and selection effects. Without correcting for selection effects, as done in previous studies, we find that pulsar initial spin periods follow a Weibull distribution, peaking at 40~ms, which is favoured against the log-normal distribution with a Bayes factor of 200. The known selection effects in radio pulsar surveys, including pulse broadening and a period-dependent beaming fraction, have been quantitatively investigated. We show that, based on measurements of pulsar luminosity and spin period from the ATNF Pulsar Catalogue, the impact of pulse broadening on the inference of pulsar period distribution is likely to be insignificant. Correcting for the beaming selection effect, a Weibull distribution remains to be the preferred model, while its peak slightly shifts to longer periods at 50~ms. Early dark energy (EDE), introduced at the epoch of matter-radiation equality to alleviate the Hubble tension, has posed a new coincidence problem: why EDE appears at matter-radiation equality when their physics are completely unrelated? To solve this coincidence problem, we propose a new EDE model based on scalar-tensor gravity with the idea that EDE is triggered by spacetime dynamics that encodes cosmic radiation-matter transition. Our model can induce EDE naturally at matter-radiation equality without unnatural parameter tuning. Compared with other EDE models, a distinguishing feature of ours is that it can also induce a new energy component during cosmic matter-dark energy transition. General relativity predicts the existence of only two tensorial gravitational wave polarizations, while a generic metric theories of gravity can possess up to four additional polarizations, including two vector and two scalar ones. These vector/scalar polarizations are in general generated by the intrinsic new vector/scalar degrees of freedom of the specific theories of gravity. In this paper, we show that, with the violation of the Lorentz symmetry in the framework of the standard model extension, the additional nontensorial polarizations can be directly excited by the two tensorial degrees of freedom. We consider the diffeomorphism invariant standard model extension in the gravity sector with the Lorentz-violating coefficients $\hat{\boldsymbol s}^{(d)\mu\rho\nu\sigma}$ of the even mass dimension $d\ge4$. In addition to the extra polarizations induced by the tensor modes, the gravitational wave in this theory travels at a speed depending on the propagation direction, experiences dispersion if and only if $d\ge6$, and possesses neither velocity nor amplitude birefringence. The excitement of the extra polarizations is also chiral. The antenna pattern functions of interferometers due to such kind of gravitational waves are generally linear combinations of those for all polarizations. Detected by pulsar timing arrays and the Gaia satellite, the stochastic gravitational wave background in this model could induce couplings among cross correlations, of the redshifts of photons and the astrometric deflections of the positions of pulsars, for different polarizations. Ultralight axion or axionlike particles are one of the most promising candidates for dark matter because they are a well-motivated solution for the theoretical strong $CP$ problem and observational issues on small scales, i.e. the core-cusp problem and the satellite problem. A tiny coupling of axions and photons induces birefringence. We propose the differential birefringence measurements of multiple images of gravitationally lensed fast radio burst (FRB) systems as probes of the Galactic axion dark matter (ADM) background. In addition to general advantages of lensing systems, i.e. alleviating systematics and intrinsic astrophysical dependencies, precise measurements of lensing time delay and polarization angle in gravitationally lensed FRB systems make them a more robust and powerful probe. We show that, with a single lensed FRB system (which may be detected in large numbers in the SKA era), the axion-photon coupling under the ADM background could be constrained to be $g_{a\gamma} < 7.3 \times 10^{-11}~ \mathrm{GeV^{-1}}$ for an axion mass $m_a\sim10^{-20}~\mathrm{eV}$. Cosmological observations, e.g., cosmic microwave background, have precisely measured the spectrum of primordial curvature perturbation on larger scales, but smaller scales are still poorly constrained. Since primordial black holes (PBHs) could form in the very early Universe through the gravitational collapse of primordial density perturbations, constrains on the PBH could encodes much information on primordial fluctuations. In this work, we first derive a simple formula for lensing effect to apply PBH constraints with the monochromatic mass distribution to an extended mass distribution. Then, we investigate the latest fast radio burst observations with this relationship to constrain two kinds of primordial curvature perturbation models on the small scales. It suggests that, from the null search result of lensed fast radio burst in currently available observations, the amplitude of primordial curvature perturbation should be less than $8\times 10^{-2}$ at the scale region of $10^5-10^6~\rm Mpc^{-1}$. The detection of a secular post-merger gravitational wave (GW) signal in a binary neutron star (BNS) merger serves as strong evidence for the formation of a long-lived post-merger neutron star (NS), which can help constrain the maximum mass of NSs and differentiate NS equation of states. We specifically focus on the detection of GW emissions from rigidly rotating NSs formed through BNS mergers, using several kilohertz GW detectors that have been designed. We simulate the BNS mergers within the detecting limit of LIGO-Virgo-KARGA O4 and attempt to find out on what fraction the simulated sources may have a detectable secular post-merger GW signal. For kilohertz detectors designed in the same configuration of LIGO A+, we find that the design with peak sensitivity at approximately $2{\rm kHz}$ is most appropriate for such signals. The fraction of sources that have a detectable secular post-merger GW signal would be approximately $0.94\% - 11\%$ when the spindowns of the post-merger rigidly rotating NSs are dominated by GW radiation, while be approximately $0.46\% - 1.6\%$ when the contribution of electromagnetic (EM) radiation to the spin-down processes is non-negligible. We also estimate this fraction based on other well-known proposed kilohertz GW detectors and find that, with advanced design, it can reach approximately $12\% - 45\%$ for the GW-dominated spindown case and $4.7\% - 16\%$ when both the GW and EM radiations are considered., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, 4 tables, accepted for publication on MNRAS

Waveform models are important to gravitational wave data analysis. People recently pay much attention to the waveform model construction for eccentric binary black hole coalescence. Several Effective-One-Body Numerical-Relativity waveform models of eccentric binary black hole coalescence have been constructed. But none of them can treat orbit eccentricity and spin-precessing simultaneously. The current paper focuses on this problem. The authors previously have constructed waveform model for spin-aligned eccentric binary black hole coalescence $\texttt{SEOBNRE}$. Here we extend such waveform model to describe eccentric spin-precessing binary black hole coalescence. We calculate the 2PN orbital radiation-reaction forces and the instantaneous part of the decomposed waveform for a general spinning precessing binary black hole system in effective-one-body (EOB) coordinates. We implement these results based on our previous $\texttt{SEOBNRE}$ waveform model. We have also compared our model waveforms to both SXS and RIT numerical relativity waveforms. We find good consistency between our model and numerical relativity. Based on our new waveform model, we analyze the impact of the non-perpendicular spin contributions on waveform accuracy. We find that the non-perpendicular spin contributions primarily affect the phase of the gravitational waveforms. For the current gravitational wave detectors, this contribution is not significant. The future detectors may be affected by such non perpendicular spin contributions. More importantly our $\texttt{SEOBNRE}$ waveform model, as the first theoretical waveform model to describe eccentric spin-precessing binary black hole coalescence, can help people to analyze orbit eccentricity and spin precession simultaneously for gravitational wave detection data., Comment: 19 pages,12 figures

This work analyzes the asymptotic behaviors of the asymptotically flat solutions of Einstein-\ae ther theory in the linear case. The vacuum solutions for the tensor, vector, and scalar modes are first obtained, written as sums of various multipolar moments. The suitable coordinate transformations are then determined, and the so-called pseudo-Newman-Unti coordinate systems are constructed for all radiative modes. In these coordinates, it is easy to identify the asymptotic symmetries. It turns out that all three kinds of modes possess the familiar Bondi-Metzner-Sachs symmetries or the extensions as in general relativity. Moreover, there also exist the \emph{subleading} asymptotic symmetries parameterized by a time-independent vector field on a unit 2-sphere. The memory effects are also identified. The tensor gravitational wave also excites similar displacement, spin, and center-of-mass memories to those in general relativity. New memory effects due to the vector and scalar modes exist. The subleading asymptotic symmetry is related to the (leading) vector displacement memory effect, which can be viewed as a linear combination of the electric-type and magnetic-type memory effects. The joint detection of GW signals by a network of instruments will increase the detecting ability of faint and far GW signals with higher signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), which could improve the ability of detecting the lensed GWs as well, especially for the 3rd generation detectors, e.g. Einstein Telescope (ET) and Cosmic Explorer (CE). However, identifying Strongly Lensed Gravitational Waves (SLGWs) is still challenging. We focus on the identification ability of 3G detectors in this article. We predict and analyze the SNR distribution of SLGW signals and prove only 50.6\% of SLGW pairs detected by ET alone can be identified by Lens Bayes factor (LBF), which is a popular method at present to identify SLGWs. For SLGW pairs detected by CE\&ET network, owing to the superior spatial resolution, this number rises to 87.3\%. Moreover, we get an approximate analytical relation between SNR and LBF. We give clear SNR limits to identify SLGWs and estimate the expected yearly detection rates of galaxy-scale lensed GWs that can get identified with 3G detector network., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

About 25-50% of white dwarfs (WDs) show metal lines in their spectra. Among the widely accepted explanations for this effect is that the these WDs are accreting asteroids that are perhaps flung onto the WDs by a planet via resonance, for instance. A number of theoretical works have looked into the accretion of asteroids onto WDs and obtained a fair agreement with the observed accretion rate. However, it is solely a very recent study (referenced in this work) that has taken asteroid binarity into consideration, examining the scattering between an asteroid binary and planets and showing that a dissociation and ejection of the former might result and the effect on WD metal accretion is likely to be weak. Here, we investigate the close encounter between an asteroid binary and the central WD and consider how the binary's dissociation may affect the WD's accretion. We find that depending on the orbital and physical properties, the components may acquire orbits that are significantly different (even on the order of unity) from that of the parent binary. We assumed all the inner main belt asteroids are binaries and we studied their accretion onto the solar WD under the perturbation of the giant planets. We find that compared to the case without binaries, the components' accretion may be postponed (or put forward) by millions of years or more, as the objects may be taken out of (or driven deeper into) the resonance due to the sudden orbital change upon dissociation. Variational principle is the main approach to obtain complete and self-consistent field equations in gravitational theories. This method works well in pure field cases such as $f(R)$ and Horndeski gravities. However, debates exist in the literature over the modification of perfect fluid. This paper aims to clarify this issue. For a wide class of modified fluid Lagrangian, we show that the variational principle is unable to give complete field equations. One additional equation is required for completeness. Adopting the local energy conservation equation gives the modified fluid a good thermodynamic interpretation. Our result is the first modified fluid theory that can incorporate energy conservation. As an application of this framework, we propose a specific modified fluid model to realize early dark energy triggered by cosmic radiation-matter transition. Combining the `time-delay distance' ($D_{\Delta t}$) measurements from galaxy lenses and other distance indicators provides model-independent determinations of the Hubble constant ($H_0$) and spatial curvature ($\Omega_{K,0}$), only based on the validity of the Friedmann-Lema\^itre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metric and geometrical optics. To take the full merit of combining $D_{\Delta t}$ measurements in constraining $H_0$, we use gamma-ray burst (GRB) distances to extend the redshift coverage of lensing systems much higher than that of Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) and even higher than quasars, whilst the general cosmography with a curvature component is implemented for the GRB distance parametrizations. Combining Lensing+GRB yields $H_0=71.5^{+4.4}_{-3.0}$~km s$^{-1}$Mpc$^{-1}$ and $\Omega_{K,0} = -0.07^{+0.13}_{-0.06}$ (1$\sigma$). A flat-universe prior gives slightly an improved $H_0 = 70.9^{+4.2}_{-2.9}$~km s$^{-1}$Mpc$^{-1}$. When combining Lensing+GRB+SN Ia, the error bar $\Delta H_0$ falls by 25\%, whereas $\Omega_{K,0}$ is not improved due to the degeneracy between SN Ia absolute magnitude, $M_B$, and $H_0$ along with the mismatch between the SN Ia and GRB Hubble diagrams at $z\gtrsim 1.4$. Future increment of GRB observations can help to moderately eliminate the $M_B-H_0$ degeneracy in SN Ia distances and ameliorate the restrictions on cosmographic parameters along with $\Omega_{K,0}$ when combining Lensing+SN Ia+GRB. We conclude that there is no evidence of significant deviation from a (an) flat (accelerating) universe and $H_0$ is currently determined at 3\% precision. The measurements show great potential to arbitrate the $H_0$ tension between the local distance ladder and cosmic microwave background measurements and provide a relevant consistency test of the FLRW metric., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

The recently proposed Skordis-Z\l{}o\'{s}nik theory is the first relativistic MOND theory that can recover the success of the standard $\Lambda$CDM model at matching observations of the cosmic microwave background. This paper aims to revisit the Newtonian and MOND approximations and the gravitational wave analysis of the theory. For the local gravitational parameters, we show that one could obtain both time-varying effective Newtonian gravitational \textit{constant} $G_\textrm{N}$ and time-varying characteristic MOND acceleration scale $a_\textrm{MOND}$, by relaxing the static assumption extensively adopted in the literature. Specially, we successfully demonstrate how to reproduce the redshift dependence of $a_\textrm{MOND}$ observed in the \textit{Magneticum} cold dark matter simulations. Primordial black holes (PBHs) can be both candidates of dark matter and progenitors of binary black holes (BBHs) detected by the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collaboration. Since PBHs could form in the very early Universe through the gravitational collapse of primordial density perturbations, the population of BBHs detected by gravitational waves encodes much information on primordial curvature perturbation. In this work, we take a reliable and systematic approach to reconstruct the power spectrum of the primordial curvature perturbation from GWTC-3, under the hierarchical Bayesian inference framework, by accounting for the measurement uncertainties and selection effects. In addition to just considering the single PBH population model, we also report the results considering the multi-population model, i.e., the mixed PBH and astrophysical black hole binaries model. We find that the maximum amplitude of the reconstructed power spectrum of primordial curvature perturbation can be $\sim2.5\times10^{-2}$ at $\mathcal{O}(10^{5})~\rm Mpc^{-1}$ scales, which is consistent with the PBH formation scenario from inflation at small scales.

Observations of galaxy-scale strong gravitational lensing (SGL) systems have enabled unique tests of nonlinear departures from general relativity (GR) on the galactic and supergalactic scales. One of the most important cases of such tests is constraints on the gravitational slip between two scalar gravitational potentials. In this paper, we use a newly compiled sample of strong gravitational lenses to test the validity of GR, focusing on the screening effects on the apparent positions of lensed sources relative to the GR predictions. This is the first simultaneous measurement of the Post-Newtonian (PN) parameter ($\gamma_{PN}$) and the screening radius ($\Lambda$) without any assumptions about the contents of the Universe. Our results suggest that the measured PPN is marginally consistent with GR ($\gamma_{PN}=1$) with increasing screening radius ($\Lambda = 10-300 $kpc), although the choice of lens models may have a significant influence on the final measurements. Based on a well-defined sample of 5000 simulated strong lenses from the forthcoming LSST, our methodology will provide a strong extragalactic test of GR with an accuracy of 0.5\%, assessed up to scales of $\Lambda \sim 300$ kpc. The past decades have witnessed a lot of progress in gravitational lensing with two main targets: stars and galaxies (with active galactic nuclei). The success is partially attributed to the continuous luminescence of these sources making the detection and monitoring relatively easy. With the running of ongoing and upcoming large facilities/surveys in various electromagnetic and gravitational-wave bands, the era of time-domain surveys would guarantee constant detection of strongly lensed explosive transient events, for example, supernovae in all types, gamma ray bursts with afterglows in all bands, fast radio bursts and even gravitational waves. Lensed transients have many advantages over the traditional targets in studying the Universe and magnification effect helps to understand the transients themselves at high redshifts. In this review article, basing on the recent achievements in the literature, we summarize the methods of searching for different kinds of lensed transient signals, the latest results on detection and their applications in fundamental physics, astrophysics and cosmology. At the same time, we give supplementary comments as well as prospects of this emerging research direction that may help readers who are interested in entering this field., Comment: 23 pages, 4 figures

The recent rapid growth of the black hole (BH) catalog from gravitational waves (GWs), has allowed us to study the substructure of black hole mass function (BHMF) beyond the simplest Power-Law distribution. However, the BH masses inferred from binary BH merger events, may be systematically 'brightened' or 'dimmed' by the gravitational lensing effect. In this work, we investigate the impact of gravitational lensing on the BHMF inference considering the detection of the third-generation GW detector -- the Einstein Telescope (ET). We focus on high redshift, $z=10$, in order to obtain the upper limits of this effect. We use Monte Carlo (MC) method to simulate the data adopting 3 original BHMFs under Un-Lensed and Lensed scenarios, then recover the parameters of BHMFs from the mock data, and compare the difference of results, respectively. We found that all the parameters are well recovered within one standard deviation(std., 1$\sigma$), and all 3 BHMF models are reconstructed within 68\% credible interval, suggesting that lensing would not change the main structure drastically, even at very high redshifts and with high precision of ET. And the modest influence beyond $50M_{\odot}$, depends on the modeling of the high mass tail or substructure of BHMF. We conclude that the impact of lensing on BHMF inference with ET can be safely ignored in the foreseeable future. Deep space exploration offers the most profound opportunity for the expansion of humanity and our understanding of the Universe, but remains extremely challenging. Progress will continue to be paced by uncrewed missions followed up by crewed missions to ever further destinations. Major space powers continue to invest in crewed deep space exploration as an important national strategy. An improved model based on previous work is developed, which projects the earliest possible launch dates for human-crewed missions from cis-lunar space to selected destinations in the Solar System and beyond based on NASA's historic budget trend and overall development trends of deep space exploration research. The purpose of the analysis is to provide a projected timeframe for crewed missions beyond Mars. Our findings suggest the first human missions from a spacefaring nation or international collaboration to the Asteroid Belt and Jovian System could be scheduled as soon as ~2071 to ~2087 and ~2101 to ~2121, respectively, while a launch to the Saturn System may occur by the year ~2132, with an uncertainty window of ~2129 to ~2153., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

The level of technological development of any civilization can be gaged in large part by the amount of energy they produce for their use, but also encompasses that civilization's stewardship of their home world. Following the Kardashev definition, a Type I civilization is able to store and use all the energy available on its planet. In this study, we develop a model based on Carl Sagan's K formula and use this model to analyze the consumption and energy supply of the three most important energy sources: fossil fuels (e.g., coal, oil, natural gas, crude, NGL and feedstocks), nuclear energy and renewable energy. We also consider environmental limitations suggested by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the International Energy Agency, and those specific to our calculations to predict when humanity will reach the level of a Kardashev scale Type I civilization. As the number of gravitational wave observations has increased in recent years, the variety of sources has broadened. Here we investigate whether it is possible for the current generation of detectors to distinguish between very short-lived gravitational wave signals from mergers between high-mass black holes, and the signal produced by a close encounter between two black holes which results in gravitational capture, and ultimately a merger. We compare the posterior probability distributions produced by analysing simulated signals from both types of progenitor events, both under ideal and realistic scenarios. We show that while, under ideal conditions it is possible to distinguish both progenitors, under more realistic conditions they are indistinguishable. This has important implications for the interpretation of such short signals, and we therefore advocate that these signals be the focus of additional investigation even when satisfactory results have been achieved from standard analyses., Comment: 15 pages, and 8 figures. An updated, binary-coded message has been developed for transmission to extraterrestrial intelligences in the Milky Way galaxy. The proposed message includes basic mathematical and physical concepts to establish a universal means of communication followed by information on the biochemical composition of life on Earth, the Solar System's time-stamped position in the Milky Way relative to known globular clusters, as well as digitized depictions of the Solar System, and Earth's surface. The message concludes with digitized images of the human form, along with an invitation for any receiving intelligences to respond. Calculation of the optimal timing during a given calendar year is specified for potential future transmission from both the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope in China and the SETI Institute's Allen Telescope Array in northern California to a selected region of the Milky Way which has been proposed as the most likely for life to have developed. In this Letter, we present a new idea of probing the distribution of dark matter exhibiting elastic and velocity-independent self-interactions. These interactions might be revealed in multiple measurements of strongly lensed gravitational waves, which can be observationally explored to determine the strength of self-scatterings. Specifically, each individual galactic-scale strong-lensing system whose source is a coalescing compact binary emitting gravitational waves will provide a model-independent measurement of the shear viscosity of dark matter along the line of sight. These individual measurements could be a probe of large-scale distribution of dark matter and its properties. Our results indicate that with 10-1000 strongly lensed gravitational waves from ET and DECIGO, robust constraints on the large-scale distribution of self-interacting dark matter might be produced. More stringent limits on the dark matter scattering cross-section per unit mass ($\sigma_{\chi}/m_{\chi}$) relevant to galaxy and cluster scales are also expected, compared with the conservative estimates obtained in the electromagnetic domain. We explore and compare the capabilities of the recent observations of standard cosmological probes and the future observations of gravitational-wave (GW) standard sirens on constraining cosmological parameters. It is carried out in the frameworks of two typical dynamical models of cosmology, i.e., the $\omega_0\omega_a$CDM model with $\omega(z) = \omega_0 +\omega_a*z/(1+z)$, and the $\xi$-index model with $\rho_X\propto\rho_ma^{\xi}$, where $\omega(z)$ is the dark energy equation of state, and $\rho_X$ and $\rho_m$ are the energy densities of dark energy and matter, respectively. In the cosmological analysis, the employed data sets include the recent observations of the standard cosmological probes, i.e., Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and cosmic microwave background (CMB), and also the mock GW standard siren sample with 1000 merging neutron star events anticipated from the third-generation detectors. In the scenarios of both $\omega_0\omega_a$CDM and $\xi$-index models, it turns out that the mock GW sample can reduce the uncertainty of the Hubble constant $H_0$ by about 50\% relative to that from the joint SNe+BAO+CMB sample; nevertheless, the SNe+BAO+CMB sample demonstrates better performance on limiting other parameters. Furthermore, the Bayesian evidence is applied to compare the dynamical models with the $\Lambda$CDM model. In recent years, a crisis in the standard cosmology has been caused by inconsistencies in the measurements of some key cosmological parameters, Hubble constant $H_0$ and cosmic curvature parameter $\Omega_K$ for example. It is necessary to remeasure them with the cosmological model-independent methods. In this paper, based on the distance sum rule, we present such a way to constrain $H_0$ and $\Omega_K$ simultaneously in the late universe from strong gravitational lensing time delay (SGLTD) data and gravitational wave (GW) standard siren data simulated from the future observation of the Einstein Telescope (ET). Based on the currently 6 observed SGLTD data, we find that the constraint precision of $H_0$ from the combined 100 GW events can be comparable with the measurement from SH0ES collaboration. As the number of GW events increases to 700, the constraint precision of $H_0$ will exceed that of the \textit{Planck} 2018 results. Considering 1000 GW events as the conservative estimation of ET in ten-year observation, we obtain $H_0=73.69\pm 0.36 \mathrm{~km~s^{-1}~Mpc^{-1}}$ with a 0.5\% uncertainty and $\Omega_K=0.076^{+0.068}_{-0.087}$. In addition, we simulate 55 SGL systems with 6.6\% uncertainty for the measurement of time-delay distance. By combining with 1000 GWs, we infer that $H_0=73.65\pm0.35 \mathrm{~km~s^{-1}~Mpc^{-1}}$ and $\Omega_K=0.008\pm0.048$. In this work, conserved charges and fluxes at the future null infinity are determined in the asymptotically flat spacetime for Chern-Simons modified gravity. The flux-balance laws are used to constrain the memory effects. For tensor memories, the Penrose's conformal completion method is used to analyze the asymptotic structures and asymptotic symmetries, and then, conserved charges for the Bondi-Metzner-Sachs algebra are constructed with the Wald-Zoupas formalism. These charges take very similar forms to those in Brans-Dicke theory. For the scalar memory, Chern-Simons modified gravity is rewritten in the first-order formalism, and the scalar field is replaced by a 2-form field dual to it. With this dual formalism, the scalar memory is described by the vacuum transition induced by the large gauge transformation of the 2-form field., Comment: 34 pages. In this paper, we aim at using the DECi-hertz Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (DECIGO), a future Japanese space gravitational-wave antenna sensitive to frequency range between LISA and ground-based detectors, to provide gravitational-wave constraints on the cosmic curvature at $z\sim 5$. In the framework of the well-known distance sum rule, the perfect redshift coverage of the standard sirens observed by DECIGO, compared with lensing observations including the source and lens from LSST, makes such cosmological-model-independent test more natural and general. Focusing on three kinds of spherically symmetric mass distributions for the lensing galaxies, we find that the cosmic curvature is expected to be constrained with the precision of $\Delta \Omega_K \sim 10^{-2}$ in the early universe ($z\sim5.0$), improving the sensitivity of ET constraints by about a factor of 10. However, in order to investigate this further, the mass density profiles of early-type galaxies should be properly taken into account. Specially, our analysis demonstrates the strong degeneracy between the spatial curvature and the lens parameters, especially the redshift evolution of power-law lens index parameter. When the extended power law mass density profile is assumed, the weakest constraint on the cosmic curvature can be obtained. Whereas, the addition of DECIGO to the combination of LSST+DECIGO does improve the constraint on the luminosity density slope and the anisotropy of the stellar velocity dispersion significantly. Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have long been proposed as a complementary probe to type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) and cosmic microwave background to explore the expansion history of the high-redshift universe, mainly because they are bright enough to be detected at greater distances. Although they lack definite physical explanations, many empirical correlations between GRB isotropic energy/luminosity and some directly detectable spectral/temporal properties have been proposed to make GRBs standard candles. Since the observed GRB rate falls off rapidly at low redshifts, thus preventing a cosmology independent calibration of these correlations. In order to avoid the circularity problem, SN Ia data are usually used to calibrate the luminosity relations of GRBs in the low redshift region (limited by the redshift range for SN Ia sample), and then extrapolate it to the high redshift region. This approach is based on the assumption of no redshift evolution for GRB luminosity relations. In this work, we suggest the use a complete quasar sample in the redshift range of $0.5

In this work, we consider the burst signal of the dark photon, the hypothetical vector boson of the $U(1)_B$ or $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge group, generated by a compact binary star system. The absence of the signal in the laser interferometer puts bounds on the coupling constant $\epsilon$ to the ordinary matter. It turns out that if the dark photon is massless, $\epsilon^2$ is on the order of $10^{-37}-10^{-33}$ at most; in the massive case, the upper bound of $\epsilon^2$ is about $10^{-38}-10^{-31}$ in the mass range from $10^{-19}$ eV to $10^{-11}$ eV. The gravitational memory effects of Chern-Simons modified gravity are considered in the asymptotically flat spacetime. If the Chern-Simons scalar does not directly couple with the ordinary matter fields, there are also displacement, spin and center-of-mass memory effects as in general relativity. This is because the term of the action that violates the parity invariance is linear in the scalar field but quadratic in the curvature tensor. This results in the parity violation occuring at the higher orders in the inverse luminosity radius. The scalar field does not induce any new memory effects that can be detected by interferometers or pulsar timing arrays. We present multi-band observations of an extremely dusty star-forming lensed galaxy (HERS1) at $z=2.553$. High-resolution maps of \textit{HST}/WFC3, SMA, and ALMA show a partial Einstein-ring with a radius of $\sim$3$^{\prime\prime}$. The deeper HST observations also show the presence of a lensing arc feature associated with a second lens source, identified to be at the same redshift as the bright arc based on a detection of the [NII] 205$\mu$m emission line with ALMA. A detailed model of the lensing system is constructed using the high-resolution HST/WFC3 image, which allows us to study the source plane properties and connect rest-frame optical emission with properties of the galaxy as seen in sub-millimeter and millimeter wavelengths. Corrected for lensing magnification, the spectral energy distribution fitting results yield an intrinsic star formation rate of about $1000\pm260$ ${\rm M_{\odot}}$yr$^{-1}$, a stellar mass ${\rm M_*}=4.3^{+2.2}_{-1.0}\times10^{11} {\rm M_{\odot}}$, and a dust temperature ${\rm T}_{\rm d}=35^{+2}_{-1}$ K. The intrinsic CO emission line ($J_{\rm up}=3,4,5,6,7,9$) flux densities and CO spectral line energy distribution are derived based on the velocity-dependent magnification factors. We apply a radiative transfer model using the large velocity gradient method with two excitation components to study the gas properties. The low-excitation component has a gas density $n_{\rm H_2}=10^{3.1\pm0.6}$ cm$^{-3}$ and kinetic temperature ${\rm T}_{\rm k}=19^{+7}_{-5}$ K and a high-excitation component has $n_{\rm H_2}=10^{2.8\pm0.3}$ cm$^{-3}$ and ${\rm T}_{\rm k}=550^{+260}_{-220}$ K. Additionally, HERS1 has a gas fraction of about $0.4\pm0.2$ and is expected to last 250 Myr. In the framework of a phenomenological cosmological model with the assumption of $\rho_{X} \propto \rho_{m} a^{\xi}$ ($\rho_{X}$ and $\rho_{m} $ are the energy densities of dark energy and matter, respectively.), we intend to diagnose the cosmic coincidence problem by using the recent samples of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and cosmic microwave background (CMB). $\xi$ is a key parameter to characterize the severity of the coincidence problem, wherein $\xi=3$ and $0$ correspond to the $\Lambda$CDM scenario and the self-similar solution without the coincidence problem, respectively. The case of $\xi = Constant$ has been investigated in the previous studies, while we further consider the case of $\xi(z) = \xi_{0} + \xi_{z}*\frac{z}{1+z}$ to explore the possible evolution. A joint analysis of the Pantheon SNe Ia sample with the recent BAO and CMB data figures out that $\xi=3.28\pm0.15$ in the case of $\xi = Constant$ at $68\%$ confidence level (CL), in addition, $\xi_{0} = 2.78_{-1.01}^{+0.28}$ and $\xi_{z} = 0.93_{-0.91}^{+1.56}$ in the case of $\xi(z)$ at $68\%$ CL. It implies that the temporal evolution of the scaling parameter $\xi$ is accepted by the joint sample at $68\%$ CL; however, the joint sample also cannot distinguish whether the scaling parameter $\xi$ is variable or not at 95\% CL. Moreover, the $\Lambda$CDM scenario is accepted by the joint sample at $95\%$ CL in both cases, and the coincidence problem still exists. In addition, we apply the Bayesian evidence to compare the models with the analysis of the joint sample, it turns out that the $\Lambda$CDM scenario is most supported by the joint sample; furthermore, the joint sample prefers the scenario with a constant $\xi$ to the one with a variable $\xi(z)$., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure, 3 tables

We investigate the inflationary consequences of the oscillating dark energy model proposed by Ti\'an [\href{https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.101.063531}{Phys. Rev. D {\bf 101}, 063531 (2020)}], which aims to solve the cosmological coincidence problem with multi-accelerating Universe (MAU). We point out that the inflationary dynamics belong to slow-roll inflation. The spectral index of scalar perturbations and the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ are shown to be consistent with current \textit{Planck} measurements. Especially, this model predicts $r\sim10^{-7}$, which is far below the observation limits. This result motivates us to explore the smallness of $r$ in the general MAU. We propose a quintessential generalization of the original model and prove $r<0.01$ in general. The null detection to date of primordial gravitational waves provides a circumstantial evidence for the MAU. After the end of inflation, the scalar field rolls toward infinity instead of a local minimum, and meanwhile its equation of state is oscillating with an average value larger than $1/3$. Gravitational lensing has long been used to measure or constrain cosmology models. Although the lensing effect of gravitational waves has not been observed by LIGO/Virgo, it is expected that there can be a few to a few hundreds lensed events to be detected by the future Japanese space-borne interferometers DECIGO and B-DECIGO, if they are running for 4 years. Given the predicted lensed gravitational wave events, one can estimate the constraints on the cosmological parameters via the lensing statistics and the time delay methods. With the lensing statistics method, the knowledge of the lens redshifts, even with the moderate uncertainty, will set the tight bound on the energy density parameter $\Omega_M$ for matter, that is, $0.288\lesssim\Omega_M\lesssim0.314$ at best. The constraint on the Hubble constant $H_0$ can be determined using the time delay method. It is found out that at $5\sigma$, $|\delta H_0|/H_0$ ranges from $3\%$ to $11\%$ for DECIGO, and B-DECIGO will give less constrained results, $8\%-15\%$. In this work, the uncertainties on the luminosity distance and the time delay distance are set to be $10\%$ and $20\%$, respectively. Strong lensing of gravitational waves (GWs) is attracting growing attention of the community. The event rates of lensed GWs by galaxies were predicted in numerous papers, which used some approximations to evaluate the GW strains detectable by a single detector. The joint-detection of GW signals by a network of instruments will increase the detecting ability of fainter and farther GW signals, which could increase the detection rate of the lensed GWs, especially for the 3rd generation detectors, e.g., Einstein Telescope (ET) and Cosmic Explorer (CE). Moreover, realistic GW templates will improve the accuracy of the prediction. In this work, we consider the detection of galaxy-scale lensed GW events under the 2nd, 2.5th, and 3rd generation detectors with the network scenarios and adopt the realistic templates to simulate GW signals. Our forecast is based on the Monte Carlo technique which enables us to take Earth's rotation into consideration. We find that the overall detection rate is improved, especially for the 3rd generation detector scenarios. More precisely, it increases by ~37% adopting realistic templates, and under network detection strategy, further increases by ~58% comparing with adoption of the realistic templates, and we estimate that the 3rd generation GW detectors will detect hundreds lensed events per year. The Advanced LIGO and Virgo gravitational wave observatories have opened a new window with which to study the inspiral and mergers of binary compact objects. These observations are most powerful when coordinated with multi-messenger observations. This was underlined by the first observation of a binary neutron star merger GW170817, coincident with a short Gamma-ray burst, GRB170817A, and the identification of the host galaxy NGC~4993 from the optical counterpart AT~2017gfo. Finding the fast-fading optical counterpart critically depends on the rapid production of a sky-map based on LIGO/Virgo data. Currently, a rapid initial sky map is produced followed by a more accurate, high-latency, $\gtrsim{12}{\rm{hr}}$ sky map. We study optimization choices of the Bayesian prior and signal model which can be used alongside other approaches such as reduced order quadrature. We show that the NANOGrav signal can come from the Higgs field with a noncanonical kinetic term in terms of the scalar induced gravitational waves. The scalar induced gravitational waves generated in our model are also detectable by space-based gravitational wave observatories. Primordial black holes with stellar masses that can explain LIGO-Virgo events are also produced. In this paper, we present a model-independent approach to calibrate the largest quasar sample. Calibrating quasar samples is essentially constraining the parameters of the linear relation between the $\log$ of the ultraviolet (UV) and X-ray luminosities. This calibration allows quasars to be used as standardized candles. There is a strong correlation between the parameters characterizing the quasar luminosity relation and the cosmological distances inferred from using quasars as standardized candles. We break this degeneracy by using Gaussian process regression to model-independently reconstruct the expansion history of the Universe from the latest type Ia supernova observations. Using the calibrated quasar dataset, we further reconstruct the expansion history up to redshift of $z\sim 7.5$. Finally, we test the consistency between the calibrated quasar sample and the standard $\rm{\Lambda}CDM$ model based on the posterior probability distribution of the GP hyperparameters. Our results show that the quasar sample is in good agreement with the standard $\rm{\Lambda}CDM$ model in the redshift range of the supernova, despite of mildly significant deviations taking place at higher redshifts. Fitting the standard $\rm{\Lambda}CDM$ model to the calibrated quasar sample, we obtain a high value of the matter density parameter $\Omega_m = 0.382^{+0.045}_{-0.042}$, which is marginally consistent with the constraints from other cosmological observations., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

We construct a new factorized waveform including $(l,|m|)=(2,2),(2,1),(3,3),(4,4)$ modes based on effective-one-body (EOB) formalism, which is valid for spinning binary black holes (BBH) in general equatorial orbit. When combined with the dynamics of $\texttt{SEOBNRv4}$, the $(l,|m|)=(2,2)$ mode waveform generated by this new waveform can fit the original $\texttt{SEOBNRv4}$ waveform very well in the case of a quasi-circular orbit. We have calibrated our new waveform model to the Simulating eXtreme Spacetimes (SXS) catalog. The comparison is done for BBH with total mass in $(20,200)M_\odot$ using Advanced LIGO designed sensitivity. For the quasi-circular cases we have compared our $(2,2)$ mode waveforms to the 281 numerical relativity (NR) simulations of BBH along quasi-circular orbits. All of the matching factors are bigger than 98\%. For the elliptical cases, 24 numerical relativity simulations of BBH along an elliptic orbit are used. For each elliptical BBH system, we compare our modeled gravitational polarizations against the NR results for different combinations of the inclination angle, the initial orbit phase and the source localization in the sky. We use the the minimal matching factor respect to the inclination angle, the initial orbit phase and the source localization to quantify the performance of the higher modes waveform. We found that after introducing the high modes, the minimum of the minimal matching factor among the 24 tested elliptical BBHs increases from 90\% to 98\%. Following our previous $\texttt{SEOBNRE}$ waveform model, we call our new waveform model $\texttt{SEOBNREHM}$. Our $\texttt{SEOBNREHM}$ waveform model can match all tested 305 SXS waveforms better than 98\% including highly spinning ($\chi=0.99$) BBH, highly eccentric ($e\approx0.15$) BBH and large mass ratio ($q=10$) BBH., Comment: 26 pages, 18 figures

Early dark energy (EDE) that becomes subdominant around the epoch of matter-radiation equality can be used to ease the Hubble tension. However, there is a theoretical problem that why the energy scale of EDE is in coincidence with that of matter-radiation equality when their physics are completely unrelated. Sakstein and Trodden [Phys. Rev. Lett. 124, 161301 (2020)] proposed a mechanism to solve this coincidence problem with $\mathcal{O}({\rm eV})$-mass neutrino. In this paper, in order to solve the coincidence problem, we propose a new scenario for EDE, in which the onset and ending of EDE are triggered by the radiation-matter transition. The specific example we study is a $k$-essence model. The cosmic evolution equations can be recast into a two-dimensional dynamical system and its main properties are analyzed. Our results suggest that $k$-essence seems unable to realize the new scenario for EDE. However, an EDE model with different scenario is realized in $k$-essence. In this model, the ending of EDE can be triggered by the radiation-matter transition while the onset depends on the initial conditions of the scalar field. Therefore, the obtained model can only be used to solve half of the coincidence problem. Exoplanet detection in the past decade by efforts including NASA's Kepler and TESS missions has discovered many worlds that differ substantially from planets in our own Solar system, including more than 400 exoplanets orbiting binary or multi-star systems. This not only broadens our understanding of the diversity of exoplanets, but also promotes our study of exoplanets in the complex binary and multi-star systems and provides motivation to explore their habitability. In this study, we analyze orbital stability of exoplanets in non-coplanar circumbinary systems using a numerical simulation method, with which a large number of circumbinary planet samples are generated in order to quantify the effects of various orbital parameters on orbital stability. We also train a machine learning model that can quickly determine the stability of the circumbinary planetary systems. Our results indicate that larger inclinations of the planet tend to increase the stability of its orbit, but change in the planet's mass range between Earth and Jupiter has little effect on the stability of the system. Based on the strongly lensed gravitational waves (GWs) from compact binary coalescence, we propose a new strategy to examine the fluid shear viscosity of dark matter (DM) in the gravitational wave domain, i.e., whether a GW experiences the damping effect when it propagates in DM fluid with nonzero shear viscosity. By assuming that the dark matter self-scatterings are efficient enough for the hydrodynamic description to be valid, our results demonstrate that future ground-based Einstein Telescope (ET) and satellite GW observatory (Big Bang Observer; BBO) may succeed in detecting any dark matter self-interactions at the scales of galaxies and clusters., Comment: 1 figure, 1 table, accepted for publication in MNRAS Letters

With the enhancement mechanism provided by a noncanonical kinetic term with a peak, the amplitude of primordial curvature perturbations can be enhanced by seven orders of magnitude at small scales while keeping to be consistent with observations at large scales. The peak function and inflationary potential are not restricted in this mechanism. We use the Higgs model and T-model as examples to show how abundant primordial black hole dark matter with different mass and scalar induced secondary gravitational waves with different peak frequency are generated. We also show that the enhanced power spectrum for the primordial curvature perturbations and the energy density of the scalar induced secondary gravitational waves can have either a sharp peak or a broad peak. The primordial black holes with the mass around $10^{-14}-10^{-12} M_{\odot}$ produced with the enhancement mechanism can make up almost all dark matter, and the scalar induced secondary gravitational waves accompanied with the production of primordial black holes can be tested by the pulsar timing arrays and spaced based gravitational wave observatory. The spectral lags of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been viewed as the most promising probes of the possible violations of Lorentz invariance (LIV). However, these constraints usually depend on the assumption of the unknown intrinsic time lag in different energy bands and the use of a single highest-energy photon. A new approach to test the LIV effects has been proposed by directly fitting the spectral lag behavior of a GRB with a well-defined transition from positive lags to negative lags. This method simultaneously provides a reasonable formulation of the intrinsic time lag and robust lower limits on the quantum-gravity energy scales ($E_{\rm QG}$). In this work, we perform a global fitting to the spectral lag data of GRB~190114C by considering the possible LIV effects based on a Bayesian approach. We then derive limits on $E_{\rm QG}$ and the coefficients of the Standard Model Extension. The Bayes factors output in our analysis shows a very strong evidence for the spectral-lag transition in GRB~190114C. Our constraints on a variety of isotropic and anisotropic coefficients for LIV are somewhat weaker than existing bounds, but they can be viewed as comparatively robust and have the promise to complement existing LIV constraints. Since gravitational waves (GWs) propagate freely through a perfect fluid, coalescing compact binary systems as standard sirens allow to measure the luminosity distance directly and provide distance measurements unaffected by the cosmic opacity. DECi-hertz Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (DECIGO) is a future Japanese space gravitational-wave antenna sensitive to frequency range between target frequencies of LISA and ground-based detectors. Combining the predicted future GW observations from DECIGO and three current popular astrophysical probes (HII regions, SNe Ia Pantheon sample, quasar sample) in electromagnetic (EM) domains, one would be able to probe the opacity of the Universe at different redshifts. In this paper, we show that the cosmic opacity parameter can be constrained to a high precision ($\Delta \epsilon\sim 10^{-2}$) out to high redshifts ($z\sim$5). In order to reconstruct the evolution of cosmic opacity without assuming any particular functional form of it, the cosmic opacity tests should be applied to individual redshift bins independently. Therefore, we also calculate the optical depth at individual redshifts and averaged $\tau(z)$ within redshift bins. Our findings indicate that, compared with the results obtained from the HII galaxies and Pantheon SNe Ia, there is an improvement in precision when the quasar sample is considered. The coherent nature of gravitational wave emanating from a compact binary system makes it possible to detect some interference patterns in two (or more) signals registered simultaneously by the detector. Gravitational lensing effect can be used to bend trajectories of gravitational waves, which might reach the detector at the same time. Once this happens, a beat pattern may form, and can be used to obtain the luminosity distance of the source, the lens mass, and cosmological parameters such as the Hubble constant. Crucial question is how many such kind of events could be detected. In this work, we study this issue for the future space-borne detectors: DECIGO and its downscale version, B-DECIGO. It is found out that there can be a few tens to a few hundreds of lensed gravitational wave events with the beat pattern observed by DECIGO and B-DECIGO per year, depending on the evolution scenario leading to the formation of double compact objects. In particular, black hole-black hole binaries are dominating population of lensed sources in which beat patterns may reveal. However, DECIGO could also register a considerable amount of lensed signals from binary neutron stars, which might be accompanied by electromagnetic counterparts. The asymptotic symmetries in Brans-Dicke theory are analyzed using Penrose's conformal completion method, which is independent of the coordinate system used. These symmetries indeed include supertranslations and Lorentz transformations for an asymptotically flat spacetime. With the Wald-Zoupas formalism, "conserved charges" and fluxes of the Bondi-Metzner-Sachs algebra are computed. The scalar degree of freedom contributes only to the Lorentz boost charge, although it plays a role in various fluxes.
