The twenty-four contributions in Look at the Coins! reflect the vast scope of Joe Cribb's interests, including Asian numismatics, museology, poetry and art. The papers are arranged geographically, then chronologically or thematically. The first seven papers look at coins, charms and silver currencies in or from China: Chinese coin-shaped charms, Han dynasty gold unearthed in the Tomb of the Marquis of Haihun, Jiangxi, silver in the history of Chinese currency, a metallurgical and historical study of Song dynasty coins, the Department of Iron Coins at Dongtangzi Hutong in Beijing and the only known annotated plan of a Chinese mint, the six million dollars in silver of the Canton Ransom, and a hoard of Chinese coins found in Turkey. Nine papers look at finds from ancient Central Asia and Afghanistan: coins of South Soghd in the first two centuries AD, the identity of the rider on Indo-Greek coins, the phonology of Greek names in Kharoṣṭhī script, questions of identity and interpretation in Gandharan reliefs, first-century AD coins in stūpa deposits and the beginning of the Buddhist relic cult in Afghanistan, a hoard of Kushan gold coins from Swabi, Gandhāran Jātakas, Avadānas and Pūrvayogas, Indian imitations of Kushan coins, and a new gold coin of Vasudeva I. Four papers relate to India: Roman coins found in India, ‘Heraṇika'in the inscriptions of the Western Deccan (c. 200 BC–300), the peck and shroff marks of sixteenth-century North India, and Henry Ernest Stapleton and the coin collection in the Heberden Coin Room, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Two papers relate to South East Asia: one revisits the Stamford Raffles'Collections, and the other discusses a hybrid pendant found in Thailand. The last contribution celebrates some of Joe's less well-known interests: poetry, art medals and art photography.

This book contains the complete text, in Chinese, pinyin and English, of all 31 books in the best-selling Journey to the West series of graded readers by Jeff Pepper and Xiao Hui Wang. If printed in standard paperback format this book would run over 3,500 pages. It is written for people who are learning to read Simplified Chinese and want to enjoy a fascinating story while gaining a better understanding of Chinese history and culture. Journey to the West is probably the most famous and best-loved novel in China and is considered one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. Its place in Chinese literature is roughly comparable to Homer's epic poem The Odyssey in Western literature. Wikipedia sums up the book's role perfectly, saying,'Enduringly popular, the tale is at once a comic adventure story, a humorous satire of Chinese bureaucracy, a spring of spiritual insight, and an extended allegory in which the group of pilgrims journeys towards enlightenment by the power and virtue of cooperation.'This book is NOT a literal translation of the original novel, which was written in the 16th century and is difficult for modern readers. It is a graded reader, which means that it uses a restricted vocabulary of Chinese words and a simple sentence structure. It starts off relatively easy and gradually increases in complexity. For example the first story, Rise of the Monkey King, covers the events in the first two chapters of the novel and uses a vocabulary of just 507 words. The second story, Trouble in Heaven, covers the next two chapters and uses only 431 words. Each chapter adds, on the average, about 30 new words, and so by the time you finish the final story, called The Last Trial, you will have seen over two thousand different Chinese words. Each paragraph of Chinese is followed by the same paragraph written in pinyin, which is a phonetic method of writing Chinese. The pinyin lets you sound out the word if you don't recognize the characters. We recommend that when you read this on an e-reader, you scroll the text or cover the pinyin with a piece of paper, so that the pinyin is not visible on the screen. Try to read the Chinese characters, and only refer to the pinyin if you are completely stumped by some characters. If you still don't recognize the word, look it up in the glossary at the end of the book. Every time a Chinese word is used for the first time, it is highlighted and followed by a footnote link. Follow that link to see a definition of the new word. There are also footnote links without highlights, and you can read those to see useful and interesting bits of information about the story and the characters that you encounter. At the end of the book is a complete English translation of each chapter. This English translation does not necessarily match the Chinese word for word, but you can refer to it to get a general understanding of the meaning of a paragraph. Finally, there are audiobook versions of all 31 books available. You can use these to listen to a native Chinese speaker tell the story while you follow along with the text. The use of electronic transferable records may bring a number of benefits to commerce due to speed and security of transmission, the possibility of reusing data and of automating certain transactions through “smart contracts”. Those features may be of particular interest for the finance and transport business sectors. Particularly relevant for developing countries is the possibility to establish a market for electronic warehouse receipts, which, in turn, may facilitate farmers'access to credit. However, an adequate legislative framework is necessary to provide certainty on the legal status of electronic transferable records and therefore enable their use. Building on existing UNCITRAL texts on electronic commerce, and namely on the principles of functional equivalence and of technology neutrality underpinning those texts, the UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records aims at legally enabling dematerialisation of transferable documents and instruments such as bills of lading, promissory notes, bills of exchange and warehouse receipts. It does so by setting forth the requirements for the equivalence between paper-based transferable documents and instruments, on the one hand, and electronic transferable records, on the other hand. Thus, the Model Law allows transposing the notion of “possession” in an electronic environment. The Model Law provides also guidance on the assessment of the reliability of the method used to manage the electronic transferable record, on change of medium (electronic to paper and the reverse), and on cross-border issues, among others. Being technology-neutral, the Model Law may accommodate the use of emerging technologies such as those based on distributed ledgers or blockchain technology. The Model Law is accompanied by an Explanatory Note to assist States in enacting its provisions and to offer guidance to other users of the text.

Bilateral trades between Bangladesh and China have stretched significantly in recent years. Export, import and economic growth are very potential weapons in the economy of Bangladesh. The trade relationship between these two countries is increasing with time again the connection of Silk Road will give more boost to the economy of both the countries. Bangladesh is a developing country; its economy is inflicted by trade deficit from her very inception. In this paper, our objective is to examine and compare the international trade between the two countries, especially, the changes in the bilateral trade and identifying major trends of trade. Every year Bangladesh imports from China were US$10.35 Billion during 2015, according to the United Nations COMTRADE database on international trade. Our findings have been using to locate the strong sectors of future cooperation between these two countries to make the economy stronger and also policy implications for future trade and economic progress.

Offshore use of the renminbi expanded rapidly in Hong Kong SAR as China sought to develop an international role for its currency while maintaining capital controls. This prompts two questions addressed in this paper: How far advanced is renminbi internationalization? And, what role does Chinese capital account liberalization play? The first is addressed by testing the extent of integration of offshore and onshore markets for the renminbi using a Threshold Autoregression (TAR) model and finds that there are substantial unexploited arbitrage opportunities. A VAR model is used to indentify factors contributing to this limited market integration and finds that capital controls and shifts in global market sentiment explain much of the divergence in onshore and offshore renminbi exchange rates. To address the second question, the paper shows how capital account measures have been used to promote offshore use of the renminbi more actively in the wake of the global financial crisis, but that this was done asymmetrically with controls on inflows eased to a greater extent than on outflows. It concludes that a more balanced liberalization process will sustain progress in renminbi internationalization.

Although the budget deficit and the public debt feature prominently in political debate and economic research, there is no agreement about how they should be measured. They can be defined for different sets of public institutions, including the nested sets corresponding to central government, general government, and the public sector, and, for any definition of government, there are many measures of the debt and deficit, including those generated by four kinds of accounts (cash, financial, full accrual, and comprehensive), which can be derived from four nested sets of assets and liabilities. Each debt and deficit measure says something about public finances, but none tells the whole story. Each is also vulnerable to manipulation, and is likely to be manipulated if it is subject to a binding fiscal rule or target. Narrow definitions of government encourage the shifting of spending to entities outside the defined perimeter of government. Narrow definitions of debt and deficit encourage operations involving off-balance-sheets assets and liabilities, while broad measures are susceptible to the mismeasurement of on-balance-sheet assets and liabilities. Reviewing the literature on these issues, the paper concludes that governments should publish several measures of the debt and deficit in a form that clearly reveals their interrelationships.

Countries implementing International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for loan loss provisioning by banks have been guided by two different approaches: International Accounting Standards (IAS) 39 and Basel standards. This paper discusses the different accounting and regulatory approaches in loan loss provisioning, and the challenges supervisors face when there are different perspectives and lack of guidance from IFRS. It suggests actions that supervisors can take to help banks meet regulatory and capital requirements and, at the same time, comply with accounting principles.

China has been moving to a more market oriented financial system, which has implications for the monetary policy environment. The paper investigates the stability of the money demand function (MDF) in light of progress in financial sector reforms that, for example, have resulted in significant financial innovation (so-called shadow banking) and more liberalized interest rates. The analysis of international experience suggests that rapid development of the financial system often leads to structural shifts in the MDF. For example, financial innovation and liberalization alter the sensitivity of money balances to income and the interest rate. For China, we find that the stable long-run relationship between money demand, output, and interest rates that existed between 2002 and 2008 disappears after 2008. This coincides with the period of rapid financial innovation, especially the growth in off-balance sheet and nonbank financial intermediation. The results suggest that usefulness of M2 as an intermediate monetary target has declined with financial innovation and reform. A result that underscores the importance of moving toward increased reliance on more price-based targets such as interest rates.

Rationale: The note contributes to the ongoing debate on several aspects of macroeconomic policy. Given the relatively fluid state of the debate (e.g., recent challenges to central bank independence), it is useful to highlight that while many of the tenets of the pre-crisis consensus have been challenged, others (such as the desirability of central bank independence) remain valid.

以哈戰爭的交戰方主要是包圍和恐襲以色列的加薩 / 加沙（哈馬斯），黎巴嫩（真主黨），胡塞運動（也門）等中東恐怖主義組織（還包括其他在舒利亞及伊拉克展開作戰的伊斯蘭原教旨主義恐怖組織）以及操縱這些代理人的伊朗恐怖主義神權政治。重點是，這不是種族或宗教之爭，而是以色列代表的民主主義（反恐）與伊朗-真主黨-哈馬斯代表的恐怖主義（神權政治專制主義）之間的戰爭。 以色列國內有約兩百萬持有以色列公民權的所謂「巴勒斯坦」阿拉伯人，因此，所謂種族滅絕或種族清洗或宗教清洗等支持恐怖主義勢力的媒體及其煽動者的指控都根本站不住腳。在不同種族和宗教之間平等享受公民權之下不構成基於種族歧視的所謂種族清洗或排除異教的所謂宗教清洗。甚至，以色列民主最先進的地方之一是，內閣的實際任期是每個禮拜履新的，而非三年或五年。在每個禮拜，以色列內閣是受國會監督和嚴格審核而履新的，換言之，以色列民主是若發現不適宜，每個禮拜就可換內閣的。這是對政府最嚴格的民主制度要求。當然，只懂得在政治上投機取巧，只轉播國際新聞的香港媒體根本不報導這點給公眾知悉的。香港媒體的報導方式是，就國際新聞而言，它的魔鬼在其片面的報導方式（貼標籤，斷章取義，移花接木，以偏概全，一竿子打翻一船人；轉播和引述）；就包括社論在內的評論或評論性報導節目而言，則是純然的一面倒。甚至，國際新聞的取態和各評論的取態有時不一致。社內不一致的現象也體現其兩面人的性質以及不專業的狀況。主要是由反猶太主義媒體，東方日報，香港01等最為代表的為廣告主博取最大流量的激進民粹主義，這難免與本港特色的族內外歧視有關。即使激進民粹主義利用所謂基層議題批判政府，但也不能搞錯的是，它服務的階級性質仍是資本階級的。那麼，對他們而言，在以哈戰爭（所謂以巴衝突）上，採取反猶太是它們生態的必然結局。這足以顯示一個社會的政治和傳媒水平是不能超過其民度的。差不多一百年前，所謂文化水平，當今最適切的最佳同義詞則是民度。簡言之，當面對以哈戰爭議題時，香港的傳媒土壤顯著不佳。本書是基於這個社會窘境下分析和總結以哈戰爭在中港的情形。 以哈戰爭在本港的脈絡中，就具有其特殊性的政治意義。不過，一般完全漠視了藉此探索和回顧以中關係史，以港關係史和猶太人歷史。而只看到中文媒體連日播放給漢族群組的哈馬斯一方允許的人盾（平民）遇難的鏡頭而已。加上，也只聽到用以抹黑以色列防衛行動的激進偏激字眼/標籤，如「種族滅絕」「種族清洗」「種族隔離」「集體懲罰」「無差別襲擊」「殺戮」「暴行」「（大）屠殺」「戰爭罪」「人道危機」「侵略者」「侵略」「佔據」「種族主義」「反人類罪」「霸權主義」「（新）殖民主義」「帝國主義」等而已。進一步，本港媒體中不少煽動者將猶太教（只為維持猶太民族身分的族內宗教；惡劣的煽動者將之鄙視稱為部落神的宗教），猶太人和猶太復國主義/錫安主義（是猶太人應對19世紀中葉後主要在歐洲掀起的反猶太主義浪潮的反命題，即在四千年的原居地猶地亞-撒瑪利亞等後來被古羅馬改名為「巴勒斯坦」的土地上建立全球猶太人的避難所，猶太國家）都跟以色列正對立的神權政治和納粹主義等同起來。將受害者描述成危害者。本港劣質煽動份子，偽學者們搞了黑白顛倒，正邪錯配。在它們眼裡，摩西解放猶太奴隸也被視為對迦南之地的殖民主義。而根本看不到以色列一方的受害情況和證供，一律漠視伊朗代理人的恐怖主義（包括人盾問題和罪責），整個來龍去脈，背景，前線的實況以及關鍵細節等。於是，香港媒體及整個中文媒體專門掩飾和美化哈馬斯恐怖主義一方的片面/偏向報導反映了主宰本地媒體的華人主持者，華人統治階級的政治偏見。本港煽動的主要對象是華人。這完全是本港媒體在俄烏戰爭上，針對俄羅斯一方的偏激報導的模式一模一樣，是屬一樣的政治操作。結局，以哈戰爭的「新聞報導」和評論都淪為了挺所謂「巴勒斯坦」恐怖主義一方的政宣。這就是真正的國家安全風險所在。解決方法，其實很簡單，如實全面報導雙方的情形和主張，尤其是追蹤前線正在發生的事情和情形，以給予公眾全面理解和正確判斷有關議題的優質資訊。為何政宣和煽動較容易得逞？是因為群眾只接收片面的報導，甚至不實的資訊，群眾無法得知和掌握前線真正在發生的事情和狀況。這就是我追蹤俄烏戰爭和以哈戰爭情形得來的法則。 此外，目前，全球傳媒和社運供應鏈引發歇斯底里和仇恨的統一機制正在通過俄烏戰爭和以哈戰爭擴大其網絡和威力之後，最終將會全面轉向中國。可惜，特別就日本和以色列議題上，中國仍積極參與其中的。在此，媒體或媒體界應該被視為全球媒體（包括社交媒體在內的）和社運的供應鏈整體，不管經歷什麼個別事件的報導，它一直都是一樣的主體。問題是它本身淪為了引發歇斯底里和仇恨的意識形態（政治）工具。換言之，暴民或暴民主義不是自然產生的，而總是由統治階級所創造的。本港有沒有擺脫這樣的機制？並沒有，是因為全球有國安法的諸多國家媒體都在參與。這只要看俄烏戰爭和以哈戰爭的報導，就明白。有沒有國安法制都沒能抑制和改變這個輕易博取流量於歇斯底里和仇恨的傳媒生態和其傳媒-社運連結的全球供應鏈。那麼，真實情況是，伊朗（什葉派）操縱的代理人，哈馬斯（遜尼派，視穆罕默德的四代繼承者為正統），真主黨（什葉派，只承認穆罕默德的女婿阿里視為正統）以及胡塞運動/胡希運動（什葉派）等恐怖主義組織是真正的反猶太主義，並與納粹主義一樣，針對猶太人正在進行種族清洗。他們的最終目的是以原本PLO巴解組織提出來的分階段計劃（The Phased Plan）來得逞消滅以色列並佔據整個猶太人原居民的土地。記得，猶太人才是原居民，而非殖民者。 為何反猶太主義和反猶太復國主義是一致的？是因為猶太復國主義是對反猶太主義的反命題。當猶太人面對19世紀到20世紀的歐洲反猶太主義的崛起和迫害，而建立的國家就是以色列。以色列也就是猶太復國主義的結晶/實踐，也就是全球猶太人的避難所（其重大民族利益所在）。換言之，反以色列，反猶太復國主義必定是反猶太的。把此兩者分開正是反猶太主義勢力的典型政宣。 恐怖主義手段絕非人民戰爭論，是因為中國革命，越南革命和古巴革命都嚴格禁止了恐怖主義。若那些馬克思主義革命勢力採取了恐怖主義手段，根本不可能取得農民大眾支持而獲勝的。所謂左派必須修正的一點是，當以色列代表民主主義和反恐等進步勢力，而伊朗及其代理恐怖組織代表神權政治專制主義和恐怖主義此一大反動勢力的時候，盲撐哈馬斯-真主黨-伊朗恐怖主義是個致命的錯誤。過去蘇聯從1960年代起改採扶植中東/歐洲/亞洲左右恐怖主義組織網絡對付西方勢力時，它的戰術變化的背景是美蘇間核阻嚇，核均衡的形成。 另外，從韓戰之後，美國實施制裁中國（中華人民共和國），而從1950年代起中國決定向阿拉伯世界靠攏，與敵對的蘇聯一樣各自扶植了中東恐怖主義勢力。其實，中蘇交惡之後也持續到蘇聯瓦解和1992年以中建交。甚至，中國仍然在外交上還是一面倒傾斜反以色列的阿拉伯世界和伊朗，軍售給伊朗。因為在二十世紀的下半，中蘇都扶植了中東恐怖主義勢力，以對付西方，換取石油和政治支持，結局全球的所謂左派都仍然盲撐中東恐怖主義勢力是錯認和錯估形勢和該勢力的階級本質，以及冷戰政治的政治後遺症（餘毒）。這必須修正。中國外交的問題正是，當它透過政經分離享受以色列的貿易，投資，軍火，科技往來之際，並沒有發揮其對阿拉伯及伊朗等恐怖主義勢力的影響力來防止恐襲。如今，以中關係是以政經分離維持著。而且，中國不但承認以色列國，也對國內不採取反猶太主義政策。這些原則性的堅持至今有效。於是，根本看不到以中斷交的危機。不過，在媒體，文宣，外交上傾斜哈馬斯恐怖主義一方（中國支持的兩國方案/兩國論也是巴解組織版本，即退到1967年前的領土，如此以色列的國家安全毫無保證）。再加上，與反猶煽動者的政宣不同，中國不認定猶太教為其公認宗教的真正理由是猶太社群不想建立華人拉比，拉比是只能由猶太人擔當的。不過，香港承認猶太教為公認的宗教之一。與哈爾濱，上海比起來，香港一直以來都是猶太社區最安全和原封不動地被保留下來的自由地方。 2023年10月13日在北京發生的反猶襲擊事件是與2024年9月18日在深圳日本人學校發生的襲擊案一樣都屬於孤狼式本土恐怖主義襲擊案件。不過，官方避免了把它如實地歸類於本土恐襲案。犯案者都是持刀在相關機構附近埋伏和無差別襲擊有關種族人士的男生。甚至都是中國官方媒體和中文媒體煽動種族仇恨的新聞作風的惡果。反猶太和反日本的華人種族主義仇恨過熱的結局都導致了襲擊事件。不過，中國媒體藉以以哈戰爭散播的反猶太主義繼續，何況傳統的反日政宣和教育。至今仍無法排除個別孤狼式本土恐襲案的發生，是因為北京政府和港府都並沒有抑制境內的相關偏激報導。 總共三宗香港發生的反猶示威(11/4/2023; 2/24/2024; 10/07/2024)都不但是未經警務處許可的非法集會，也稱不上群眾示威。與群眾示威正相反，那三宗都是一樣的六名挺哈馬斯恐怖主義的煽動者自己出來搞閃電式非法集會的。配合報導的媒體是DW，獨立媒體和集誌社等反對派陣營的媒體。這三宗證實的是美化和掩飾伊朗恐怖主義勢力的政宣和媒體報導都無法獲得群眾，而迫使煽動者自己出來搞示威而已。因此，這些都不算群眾示威。在香港，反猶太主義仍然不成颱風。 本港在以哈戰爭議題上始

Dieser Band, der die Reihe »Beiträge zum chinesisch-deutschen Rechtsdialog« eröffnet, ist selbst das Produkt eines mehrjährigen Dialogs. Der Diskurs über die Reform des Strafprozesses war bereits mehrere Jahre gewachsen, wie im Jahr 2019 dann endlich ein Symposium über den »Deal im chinesischen und deutschen Strafprozess« stattfand. Was im Weiteren als ein recht konsequentes und einfach zu verwirklichendes Projekt aussah, nämlich die Publikation der verschiedenen Beiträge, entwickelte sich zu einem mehrjährigen Hindernisrennen. Das Symposium war so anregend, dass mehrere der chinesischen Teilnehmer ihre Beiträge signifikant um- und ausbauten, was zu einer Verdreifachung der Übersetzungstätigkeit führte.
