Data Representativity and Granularity in Spanish Syntax focuses on the dialogue between Generative Grammar, Variationism, and experimental linguistics with a unique emphasis on Spanish linguistics.Combining formal syntax and empirical data collection, this volume analyzes and compares various data collection methods in syntactic theory, and examines a wide variety of approaches to gain novel insight in this emerging area. Through the case study of subject properties in Spanish, with an emphasis on how differences in data collection and data analysis standards may shape our perception of the object of study, this book addresses the following questions: (a) How do the data gathered through the standard methodology in each discipline diverge (if at all) and why? and (b) What kind of research questions can be answered with the standard methodology in each field? Último discípulo de Edmund Husserl, considerado'el Sócrates de Praga'por el compromiso político que adoptó al final de su vida como primer portavoz del movimiento cívico Carta 77, Jan Patočka ha influido fuertemente en el pensamiento fenomenológico actual a través de su concepción de una fenomenología asubjetiva y la caracterización de la existencia humana como movimiento. Interioridad y mundo ofrece por primera vez la traducción en castellano de seis textos integrantes del'Legado de Strahov', un grupo de manuscritos que el filósofo resguarda en la biblioteca del Monasterio de ese distrito praguense. Aunque inacabados, ofrecen una nueva comprensión global sobre el desarrollo de la fenomenología patočkiana, ya que constituyen la antesala concreta de sus proyectos de madurez. A partir de una particular noción de interioridad –concebida en sentido opuesto a la psicología introspeccionista y la reflexión egológica–, Patočka inspecciona la naturaleza de la vida como una resistencia a la objetivación que se coloca ante un correlato que la excede al mismo tiempo que la forma: el mundo. Estas nociones permiten entender no solo el devenir de su pensamiento, sino también el de toda la filosofía fenomenológica de finales del siglo pasado y sus derivas en nuestro presente.

Syntactic movement is a pervasive phenomenon in natural language and, as such, has played a key role in syntactic theorizing. Nonetheless, an understanding of the mechanism that allows a constituent to appear to the right of its base-generated position has remained elusive. This groundbreaking research monograph aims to address this gap in our knowledge by expanding the inventory of languages and data sets traditionally considered in the literature. Specifically, Ortega-Santos analyzes the interplay between focus, word order and ellipsis in Spanish. A major finding that emerges from the analysis is that the tension between linearization requirements and rightward movement is diminished by ellipsis. Current debates on the syntax of the VOS order and preverbal subjects in Null-Subject Languages also figure prominently in the discussion, as novel empirical evidence for the existence of null expletives is provided: a non-trivial issue for our understanding of the Extended Projection Principle and subjecthood across languages.
