Onderzoek om te bepalen waarvan de biogasproductie afhankelijk is tijdens de afvalwaterzuivering en hoe deze biogasproductie eventueel verbeterd kan worden.

The increased interest in using woody biomass as a carbon neutral renewable resource for energy production has been a result of the growing awareness of CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels. A great potential for production of woody biomass in the Prairie Pothole Region was found in willow rings surrounding prairie wetlands. The Biobaler designed by Anderson group in 2006 makes harvesting of willow rings possible. Harvesting of willow rings with a biobaler for biomass production is currently only implemented by the Agroforestry Development Centre in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. Due to the early stage in which the system is situated limited research has been carried out on important aspects regarding this topic.

The Biobased Economy has become a major focus for the future development of sustainability in the Netherlands and plays a significant role for this country in the reduction of GHG emission and the dependency on fossil fuel. Moreover the European Commission published several new documents and policies to advocate the growth of the Biobased Economy such as ‘Innovating for Sustainable Growth: A Bioeconomy for Europe’ and also ‘Bioeconomy Strategy and its Action Plan’. (EC COM (2012) 60 final) Meanwhile ensuring the concerns about food security and governance of natural resources.

Een verslag opgesteld over de aanpassingen van de dieselmotor voor biobrandstoffen. Dit gaat hoofdzakelijk over biodiesel. In dit verslag wordt eerst de verschillende biobrandstoffen besproken met daarop volgend de productie methode.

De strijd tegen de uitstoot van milieuonvriendelijke stoffen is los gebarsten in de Automotive sector. In verband met de steeds strenger wordende milieueisen wordt men gedwongen om innovatieve alternatieven te vinden voor de bestaande verbrandingsmotoren. Het gebruik van waterstof als brandstof zou een oplossing kunnen zijn. Waterstof is milieuvriendelijk en bruikbaar als brandstof in verbrandingsmotoren. Milieuvriendelijk omdat bij de verbranding van waterstof alleen water ontstaat.

Hout wordt al sinds mensenheugenis gebruikt om te verwarmen, te koken, gereedschap te maken of te bouwen maar sinds de energiecrisis in de jaren 70 werd hout vooral aangezien als een mogelijkheid om de energiefactuur te verlichten. De laatste jaren neemt de interesse in biomassa als groene brandstof steeds toe. Maar is biomassa wel zo milieuvriendelijk als men beweert? En is biomassa wel geschikt voor goed geïsoleerde gebouwen?
