薬用植物や生薬を利用することは、先人達の知恵の結晶であり、未来に受け継ぐべき財産である。しかし、近年の健康食品ブームは過熱気味のところがあり、薬用植物が安易に利用されている場合がある。そのため、植物部位の取り違いや、植物そのものの取り違いなどの問題も起きている。生薬の品質に関しては、色、味、匂いといった人の五感による選品が従来行われてきた。これに顕微鏡による形態観察、化学成分の確認、遺伝子解析が加わり、更には色差計、味覚センサー、匂いセンサーといった機械が導入されるようになってきた。機器による客観的な数値データが判断基準に変わりつつある。形態観察は古い技術ではあるが、顕微鏡があれば少量でも鑑別出来るなどの利点があり、流通の現場では薬用植物、生薬を理解する技術としてまだまだ重要な位置を占めている。, The utilization of medicinal plants and crude drugs is the crystallization of our predecessors' wisdom, which should be passed down as an asset to future generations. However, the recent health food boom is somewhat overheated and medicinal plants are sometimes used carelessly, incurring such problems as wrong identifications of plant parts and plants themselves. The five senses including color, taste, and smell have been used to determine qualities of crude drugs. Morphological observation by microscopy, chemical component determination, and genetic analysis are techniques additionally adopted for the determination. Furthermore, such equipments as colorimeters, taste sensors, and smell sensors have been introduced. Objective, numerical data obtained by the equipments are replacing sensory data as judgment criteria. Microscopic observation is an old technique. However, the technique has an advantage in that it requires only a small amount of a sample for identification and is still important for understanding medicinal plants and crude drugs in the field of distribution.

代替医療として漢方薬あるいは生薬への関心が高まる中で,名称の類似,同名異物の問題が表面化してきている.そこで,2002年3月に西太平洋地区の5カ国6地域(日本,中国,韓国,ベトナム,シンガポール,香港)の専門家により『生薬・薬用植物に関する国際調和のための西太平洋地区討論会(FHH:Western Pacific Region Forum for the Harmonization of Herbal Medicines)』が発足した.FHH活動の一つに生薬の墓原植物に関するものがあり、今回4カ国の局方に収載される共通生薬について比較表を作成したので報告する., The interest in Chinese herb medicine or crude drugs is rising as alternative medicine. However, a big problem has been turning up about herbal medicines. The cause is in the similarities of the names of herbal medicines. Therefore, the Western Pacific Region Forum for the Harmonization of Herbal Medicines (FHH) was inaugurated by specialists of 5 countries of 6 areas (Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong) of the west Pacific areas in March, 2002. The nomenclature of medicinal plants is the subject as one of the FHH activities. We report here on a comparative table about the herbal medicine that is found in four countries of pharmacopoeia.
