In this paper, an analytical method based on conformal mapping technique is applied to the rotor design of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). A single layer IPMSM is developed to a double-layer IPMSM to improve saliency ratio with design of experiment (DOE) and response surface methodology (RSM). The increased reluctance torque of the double-layer IPMSM is verified by finite element analysis (FEA). With this analytical method, the estimation of saliency effect related to reluctance torque can be achieved by simple calculation of equations. Therefore, time and effort in the initial design of the model having complex geometry can be saved

This paper proposes the design method of a magnetic suspension that is controlled actively on the exterior vibrations by low frequencies. The magnetic suspension is able to compensate the vibrations with individual controls unlike a mechanical suspension. In the magnetic suspension, two characteristics are required. That is, firstly, magnetic motive force (MMF) by armature winding must be increased linearly. Lastly, the other is same output force as direction of MMF. Transverse flux linear motor (TFLM) is getting to be widely used in low speed and high power systems. For easy fabrication, solid core is more useful than laminated core. However, eddy current losses are increased in solid core, and it makes efficiency decreased. Some experiment results show the fact. Therefore, estimation of eddy current losses is important to select core type. This paper describes a rapid practical technique to analyze the eddy current losses in solid and laminated cores of a TFLM. The calculation is carried out with the aid of 3D equivalent magnetic circuit network method and 2D finite element analysis method. A study on magnetic force is more important than other factors, because acoustic noise of motors is mainly affected by vibration of structure. Especially, harmonics of normal force are associated with resonant frequency of structure. Therefore, although cogging torque and torque fluctuation influenced by tangential force are important factors in output characteristic, the normal force is more important for the acoustic noise.
