In this paper, we show how ontology can be utilized to support distant communication. Although augmented with audio and video functions, and screen sharing facilities, the users of real-time communication tools are facing difficulties due to their inability to provide appropriate meaning for keywords or conversation topics. Our system fills the semantic gap and supports the knowledge of keywords related to a specific topic. This paper presents an extended approach that uses different domain ontologies to carry out mapping by agents. Assisting a teacher by providing appropriate information to students as an intelligent tutoring system is one example application. This paper describes a sample scenario of computer usage operations in an English composition class that shows how the semantic gap between teachers and students can be filled using ontologies.
