The Earth Science program at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) includes a broad set of current and prospective missions, complemented by research, innovation, and interagency and international collaboration. Earth system science is advanced through spaceborne data acquisition, research and analysis, and predictive modeling. A robust technology investment program is in place to support the development and improvement of Earth observational capabilities. Through flexible, science-driven technology strategies and a competitive selection process, technologies funded through the Earth Science Technology Office (ESTO) are now targeted towards supporting the development of the next generation of Earth science missions. The majority of future Earth-science missions will require active remote sensing capabilities. This presentation provides an overview of the technology investments NASA is making in Earth Science, and identifies the active remote sensing investments supporting each measurement.
