As the most known and mature technology for radio over fiber is intensity modulation and direct detection technique, we investigate in this paper the phase modulation and interferometric detection as fronthaul transport option for 5G communications. We demonstrate by simulation the link ability to transmit data up to 12.5 Gb/s and determine key parameters to build an optimized link. The system simulation is done through electrical circuit representation of the optoelectronic components.
