STATEMENT OF PURPOSE This project consists of production of Polyamide-6 (PA-6) nanofiber with patterned structure by using novel collectors in electrospinning. These collectors (under patent process) will allow producing both oriented and non-oriented nanofibers in one scaffold for biomedical applications. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Diaphragm is composed of a peripheral part (muscular fiber) and a central part (tendon). The tendon is the upper part of the diaphragm, in contact with the lungs and is closer to the front than to the back of the thorax, so that the posterior muscular fibers are longer. The central tendon is composed of several planes of fibers, whose arrangement gives strength and rigidity to the membrane (1-3). The ability to transfer the wanted guest molecules to the targeted place and release it in a controlled manner is drug delivery. In this research, PAN electrospun mat and a model of an electrospun PAN\SBA-15 composite mat has been examined to measure and compare the amount of drug adsorption. Finally, the release profile of the drug-loaded electrospun mats has been measured. A biocompatible carrier which can load high amount of drug molecules is needed for a drug delivery system. The article discusses a study that intends to develop an automatic experimental device to observe the impact of spinning parameters on the properties of final monofilaments with a large diameter around 1 millimeter. The article presents a study which examines effects of the diameter of nanofibers on the wettability of PA-6 electrospun nanowebs. Polymer solution concentration at 25, 20 and 15 weight percent (wt%) were selected for electrospinning. The effect of the average nanofibers diameter on absorption regime of nanowebs were examined using contact angle measurement system. The study demonstrated that absorption time for electrospun nanowebs were shorter.

The mechanical properties of PA-6 electrospun nanowebs were studied in this research. PA-6 pellets were dissolved in formic acid to yield 25 wt.% solution. To ensure the reproducibility of electrospinning process, all important parameters have been studied and the optimum of electrospinning conditions was obtained. Electrospun nanowebs were removed from the aluminum foil (collector) using a simple method without any physical damage. SEM and AFM devices were used to precisely observe the nanowebs longitudinal and cross-sectional morphology. All samples were cut in same dimension (5×15 mm) and weighted by a mechanical micro-balance to get the weight per surface unit of nanowebs. Samples were put in the special supports which were built by cardboard layers to do the tensile tests by MTS tensile testing machine. The results of this work show the relationship between weight per surface unit of PA-6 nanowebs and their tensile strength and modulus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study the morphological and mechanical properties of PA-6 electrospun nano-webs were investigated. Three concentrations (15, 20 and 25 wt%) of PA-6 were electrospun. SEM and AFM photos were taken to precisely observe the nanowebs longitudinal and cross-sectional morphology. To study the heating effect on the nano-webs, the PA-6 nano webs were heated in different temperatures. The deformations were investigated by the SEM photos. This work is an introduction to mechanical characterization of the nano-webs that will be done by our group in LPMT; in this perspective some results of the preliminary tests like UHNT to determine the elastic modulus are presented. The electrospinning process is a way to produce nanofibers that can be used with a wide variety of polymers. Through a complex stretching effect generated by electrical charge, electrospinning transform a droplet of polymer into the nanofibers. In the process parameters, the rheological behaviours of the solution determine the spinnability. In the case of polymer solution, the macromolecular arrangement governs these behaviours. To precisely define the electrospinnability of the polymers, our researches have been focused on evaluation of the solution behaviour through rheological characterization. In this study, the two solutions, Polyacrylonitrile/Dimethylformamide and Polyamide-6 and Polyamide6-6/Formic acid have been rheologicaly tested. Through theses results it has been possible to link the mechanical requirements of the electrospinnability and the macromolecular configuration of the polymers chains. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The electrospinning process is a way to produce nanofibers that can be used with a wide variety of polymer. It consists in introducing a polymer solution into a high voltage field via a metallic needle. This solution is submitted to a high stretch effect which transforms droplet into nanofibers. To obtain nanofibers, it is important to control the process conditions. In the process parameters, the solution properties; in terms of viscosity is crucial to the spinnability. To precisely define the electrospinnability of the polymer, our researches have been focused on evaluation of the solution behavior through rheological characterization. In our studies, two solutions Polyacrylonitrile/Dimethylformamide and Polyamide/Formic acid have been rheologicaly tested, during the flow state for different concentrations.
