A new Schiff base compound, C20H16N2, was prepared by the reaction of isophthalaldehyde with aniline. The terminal phenyl rings are almost perpendicular, with a dihedral angle of 85.8 (2)°. The terminal phenyl rings make dihedral angles of 60.8 (2) and 52.5 (2)° with the central ring. Both C N groups adopt a trans configuration. Adjacent pairs of centrosymmetrically related molecules are connected via π-π stacking interactions between their central benzene rings, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.747 (2) Å. The three terephthalate groups in the title polymeric coordination compound, {(C2H8N)[NaZn2(C8H4O4)3-(C2H7N)2]}n, lie on inversion centers. One functions as a bridge to two Na and two Zn atoms. The O atoms of the other two terephthalate groups bind to only one Zn atom. The Zn atom is additionally coordinated by a dimethylamine molecule; together with bonding from the O atoms of the three terephthalate groups, the geometry is tetrahedral. The manner of bridging of the terephalate groups gives rise to a polyanionic honeycomb sheet motif; the sheets are held into a three-dimensional network through the Na atoms. In the title compound, [Co(CH3OH)4(H2O)2]SO4, the CoII atom and S atom lie on special positions on a twofold rotation axis. The CoII ion is six-coordinated by four O atoms of methanol mol­ecules and two water mol­ecules in a distorted octa­hedral geometry. In the title mononuclear complex, [Cu(C14H11O3)2(C5H5N)2(C2H6O)2], the Cu atom has a distorted octa­hedral environment, formed by the N atoms of two pyridine mol­ecules, carboxylate O atoms belonging to two 2-hydr­oxy-2,2-diphenyl­acetate ligands and O atoms of two ethanol mol­ecules. The mol­ecule of the complex occupies a special position on a twofold axis, which passes through the Cu atom as well as the N and para-C atoms of each of the two pyridine ligands. A new flexible bis(pyridyl) complex, C18H18N4, was prepared by the reaction of terephthalaldehyde with 3-aminopyridine. The molecule is centrosymmetric. The complete molecule of the title compound, C18H18N4, is generated by crystallographic twofold rotation symmetry, with two C atoms lying on the rotation axis. The dinuclear dication in the title compound, [Cd2(ClO4)2(C17H14N4)4(H2O)2](ClO4)2·2CH4O, lies on a twofold rotation axis as the two N,2-di-3-pyridylisoindoline-1-imine N-heterocycles function in μ2-bridging modes. Aside from the four N atoms, the Cd atom is also linked to the water and perchlorate O atoms, the O atoms being cis to each other in an octahedral geometry.
