Joining the EU, among others meant that Czech Republic has gained opportunity to draw financial funds of the EU. In the context of profitability and overall economic performance of agricultural enterprises, the most serious threat is currently reduction or even elimination of agricultural subsidies as came out from discussions about future development of the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) already in 2011. In 2011, the CAP was a point of interest especially because of approaching the end of programme period of 2007–2013. During the last decade, the CAP has been reformed substantially while these reforms and changes reflect requirements of society connected to environment, to food quality and safety, and to developing needs of the EU´s economy. Based on these discussions across all the EU countries, three principal scenarios have been formulated in order to solve the main political objectives of future CAP. In each scenario, different stress is put on single objectives of the CAP. These three scenarios are the adjustment scenario, the integration scenario and the re-focus scenario. Changes of CAP, which were covered by single scenarios have been focused on market interventions, direct payment and on policy of rural areas development.

Agricultural business is a very specific branch which is characterized by very low financial performance while this characteristic is given mainly by external factors as market pricing of agricultural commodities on one side, and production costs of agricultural commodities on the other side. This way, agricultural enterprises recognize negative values of gross margin in the Profit and Loss Statement but positive value of operating profit after even there are items of costs which are deducted. These results are derived from agricultural production subsidies which are recognized as income in the P/L Statement. In connection with this fact, the government subsidies are a substantial component of financial performance of agricultural enterprises.Primary research proceeded on the statistical sample of one hundred agricultural companies, has shown that also other specifics influencing financial performance of these businesses exist here. In order to determine the influences, the cluster analysis has been applied at using more than 10 variables. This approach has led to construction of clusters (groups) of agricultural business entities with different characteristics of the group. The objective of this paper is to identify the main determinants of financial performance of agricultural enterprises and to determine their influences under different economic characteristics of these business entities. For this purpose, the regression analysis has been subsequently applied on the groups of companies coming out from the cluster analysis. Besides the operating profit which is the main driving force of financial performance measured with the economic value added (EVA) in agricultural enterprises, also capital structure and cost of capital have been observed as very strong influences on financial performance but these factors have different directions of their influence on the economic value added under different financial characteristics of agricultural enterprises.

A value based remuneration system can be ranked among the modern remuneration systems. The value based remuneration systems focus their attention on the interconnection of the personal objectives of employees with the objectives of owners. Such an aim can be accomplished by meticulously selected evaluation quantities. A presented article concentrates on the economic value added quantity. This topic was a subject of an undertaken research within the framework of the Internal Grant Agency of the Faculty of Business and Management, the partial objective of which was to acquire the information on the value based remuneration systems applied in the small and medium-sized enterprises situated in the South-Moravia region. Selected research results are presented in the submitted article. The investigation research outputs enriched and completed a literary background research and together with the secondary research results facilitated the formulation of pre-requisites appropriate for the value based remuneration system application in the remuneration schemes of the small and medium-sized enterprises. On the basis of the formulation of these pre-requisites the article describes the EVA indicator implementation progress steps in the value based remuneration system and, subsequently, an employee value based remuneration model with the indicator of the economic value added is introduced.

The modern indicators of the performance of business entity are based on an economic conception of profit. It means that alternative costs and risks are taken into account in construction of these indicators. Moreover, the modern indicators would also enable to clearly and digestedly identify the links on each level of management, and therefore to support the value-based management. The one of these modern indicators is Economic Value Added. This indicator has been introduced by Stewart Stern & Co. in the early nineties. As some Czech authors state (e.g. Synek, 2007), domestic alternative of the EVA indicator are the IN indexes which has been developing since the middle of the nineties as overall indexes of company’s financial health especially because the indexes coming from abroad had not a good differentiation ability with regard to specifics of the Czech economic environment. The objective of this article is to define the relations between the values of EVA indicator and the values of the index IN 99 while the analysis is focused on agricultural companies of mixed farming. The authors base their work on differences in constructions of these two indicators and on ­differences in interpretations of their results. Primarily, basic correlation of values of these indicators has been observed. The calculation of Pearson correlation coefficient has been applied on the set of fifty business entities, and the calculated result of 0.669 shows relatively stronger linear dependence. Consequent test has verified a statistical significance of this dependence. Then in this article, the authors are focused on causations of this dependence which is rather strong in spite of a different logic of these two indicators. Other consequences of overall view on company’s economic performance are discussed in the article as well.

Financial performance of agricultural enterprises is discussed mainly in relation to agricultural subsidies policy of the Government. Agriculture is undoubtedly a specific sector of the national economy because the market conditions do not ensure a settlement of production costs of agricultural commodities. Than the most of agricultural enterprises have negative financial performance measured with the Economic Value Added (EVA).The aim of this paper is to identify and determine the main factors influencing the value of the EVA indicator in agricultural enterprises while the analysis is focused especially on four variables directly entering the calculation of economic value added. But the fact that these four variables are functions of other variables has to be also taken into account. Constructed multi-dimensional regression model corresponds with the fundamental logic of the calculation of economic value added. It has been observed that the strongest influence on the value of EVA stands on the side of operating profit. But in agricultural enterprises, the important part of this profit consists just in the agricultural production subsidies. This way, these subsidies become the substantial part of the performance of agricultural enterprises.

When looking for connections between particular business’s activities, theory of financial management uses pyramidal system of indicators. The effectiveness of this tool is based on the appropriate choice of the top indicator. Its decomposition enables to manage firm’s processes from the bottommost organizational levels to the main firm’s mission with respect to the connections between par­ti­cu­lar processes. The aim of this paper was to identify appropriate indicator, which corresponds with creation of firm’s value and design its decomposition. To measure creation of firm’s value it is nowadays very popular to use indicator Economic Value Added (EVA). Though from the theoretical point of view EVA is seen as a superior performance metric, the results of some empirical studies do not support this claim. That is why the information content of EVA was controlled in the concrete conditions of Czech Economy within this article. The results showed eligibility of using EVA in Czech firms and enabled to choose it as the top indicator in the pyramidal system. Ambition of further research is to design a complex of indicators offering a comprehensive economic view on the firm’s per­for­man­ce.

The content of this article is the application of the economic value added model (EVA) upon the conditions of a banking company. Due to the character of banking business, which is in a different structure of financial sheet, it is not possible to use the standard model EVA for this banking company. The base of this article is the outlined of basic principles of the EVA mode in a non-banking company. Basic specified banking activity dissimilarities are analysed and a directed methodology adjustment of a model such as this, so that it is possible to use it for a banking company.

This paper is devoted to the possibilities of Economic Value Added index usage in the conditions of Czech food-processing industry and is trying to provide independent empirical evidence on the indicator’s qualities. The EVA proponents attach to it a superiority compared to other common performance measures. The aim of this article is to investigate the relationship between Economic Value Added, traditional performance measures (ROA and ROE) and ability of creation of shareholder wealth for food-processing firms in the Czech Republic. The way of intended comparison is not dissimilar to the main world studies, which are quoted in this paper. A critical point of the EVA’s application in the conditions of Czech economy is a lack of good quality information from capital market, which at the same time, serve as an exogenous criterion for assessing the quality of the examined measures in the mentioned studies. In the absence of quality capital market information, a criterion for assessing the information content of performance measures suitable for conditions of Czech economy is developed in this paper. This also shows how to circumvent the handicap of the available data.The intent of this article is fulfilled by providing a simple regression test of the hypothesis, that the EVA measure is more associated with improved shareholder wealth than traditional performance measures ROA and ROE. The results of regression analysis show higher quality information content of EVA indicator in the relationship to the ability of shareholder wealth creation than traditional performance measures. This fact supports the tested hypothesis as well as the conclusions of corporate finance theory, that from the theoretical point of view EVA is seen as a superior performance metric.

The topic of this paper is motivated by the increasing popularity of Economic Value Added (EVA) and by the need to make the managing process of Czech agribusiness firms more efficient. Through adoption of EVA principle, the proponents of EVA argue, that EVA will lead to increased efficiency in the management and allocation of all assets and hence increased shareholder value. Though from the theoretical point of view EVA is seen as a superior performance metric, the results of the most empirical studies do not support this claim. One of the standard argument against EVA superiority results from the statistical survey of the relationship between EVA and traditional performance measures. Despite of the results of the most empirical studies this paper assumes (with regard to the specifics of Czech food processing sector) a difference in information content of EVA and traditional performance metrics. The intent of this article is to provide a simple regression test of the hypothesis that between EVA and traditional performance metrics is not tight linear dependency, which would point out that EVA has the same information content as traditional performance measures. The regression results indicate in all cases a positive correspondence between EVA and financial performance metrics with very low dependency of EVA on the financial metrics, which supports the examined hypothesis.
