Despite recent advances, several challenges remain in sensor integration, handling sparse and noisy data, and ensuring reliable performance across diverse environmental conditions. This paper comprehensively surveys state-of-the-art 3D object detection techniques for autonomous vehicles, emphasizing the importance of multi-sensor fusion techniques and advanced deep learning models. Furthermore, we present key areas for future research, including enhancing sensor fusion algorithms, improving computational efficiency, and addressing ethical, security, and privacy concerns. The integration of these technologies into real-world applications for autonomous driving is presented by highlighting potential benefits and limitations. Using instance segmentation and video inpainting provides a significant leap in real-time football video broadcast enhancements by removing potential visual distractions, such as an occasional person or another object accidentally occupying the frame. Despite its relevance and importance in the media industry, this area remains challenging and relatively understudied, thus offering potential for research. Specifically, the segmentation and inpainting of camera operator instances from video remains an underexplored research area. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a framework designed to accurately detect and remove camera operators while seamlessly hallucinating the background in real-time football broadcasts. The approach aims to enhance the quality of the broadcast by maintaining its consistency and level of engagement to retain and attract users during the game. To implement the inpainting task, firstly, the camera operators instance segmentation method should be developed. We used a YOLOv8 model for accurate real-time operator instance segmentation. The resulting model produces masked frames, which are used for further camera operator inpainting. Moreover, this paper presents an extensive "Cameramen Instances" dataset with more than 7500 samples, which serves as a solid foundation for future investigations in this area. The experimental results show that the YOLOv8 model performs better than other baseline algorithms in different scenarios. Fetal hypoxia is a condition characterized by a lack of oxygen supply in a developing fetus in the womb. It can cause potential risks, leading to abnormalities, birth defects, and even mortality. Cardiotocograph (CTG) monitoring is among the techniques that can detect any signs of fetal distress, including hypoxia. Due to the critical importance of interpreting the results of this test, it is essential to accompany these tests with the evolving available technology to classify cases of hypoxia into three cases: normal, suspicious, or pathological. Furthermore, Machine Learning (ML) is a blossoming technique constantly developing and aiding in medical studies, particularly fetal health prediction. Notwithstanding the past endeavors of health providers to detect hypoxia in fetuses, implementing ML and Deep Learning (DL) techniques ensures more timely and precise detection of fetal hypoxia by efficiently and accurately processing complex patterns in large datasets. Correspondingly, this review paper aims to explore the application of artificial intelligence models using cardiotocographic test data. The anticipated outcome of this review is to introduce guidance for future studies to enhance accuracy in detecting cases categorized within the suspicious class, an aspect that has encountered challenges in previous studies that holds significant implications for obstetricians in effectively monitoring fetal health and making informed decisions. Image classification is an important application for deep learning. With the advent of quantum technology, quantum neural networks (QNNs) have become the focus of research. Traditional deep learning-based image classification involves using a convolutional neural network (CNN) to extract features from the image and a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) network to create the decision boundaries. However, quantum circuits with parameters can extract rich features from images and also create complex decision boundaries. This paper proposes a hybrid QNN (H-QNN) model designed for binary image classification that capitalizes on the strengths of quantum computing and classical neural networks. Our H-QNN model uses a compact, two-qubit quantum circuit integrated with a classical convolutional architecture, making it highly efficient for computation on noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices that are currently leading the way in practical quantum computing applications. Our H-QNN model significantly enhances classification accuracy, achieving a 90.1% accuracy rate on binary image datasets. In addition, we have extensively evaluated baseline CNN and our proposed H-QNN models for image retrieval tasks. The obtained quantitative results exhibit the generalization of our H-QNN for downstream image retrieval tasks. The increasing rate of minimally invasive procedures and the growing prevalence of cardiovascular disease have led to a demand for higher-quality guidance systems for catheter tracking. Traditional methods for catheter tracking, such as detection based on single points and applying masking techniques, have been limited in their ability to provide accurate pose information. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning-based method for catheter tracking and pose detection. Our method uses a Yolov5 bounding box neural network with postprocessing to perform landmark detection in four regions of the catheter: the tip, radio-opaque marker, bend, and entry point. This allows us to track the catheter's position and orientation in real time, without the need for additional masking or segmentation techniques. We evaluated our method on a dataset of fluoroscopic images from two distinct datasets and achieved state-of-the-art results in terms of accuracy and robustness. Our model was able to detect all four landmark features (tip, marker, bend, and entry) used to generate a pose for a catheter with 0.285 ± 0.143 mm, 0.261 ± 0.138 mm, 0.424 ± 0.361 mm, and 0.235 ± 0.085 mm accuracy. We believe that our method has the potential to significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of catheter tracking in medical procedures that utilize bi-plane fluoroscopy guidance. Generating synthetic data is a complex task that necessitates accurately replicating the statistical and mathematical properties of the original data elements. In sectors such as finance, utilizing and disseminating real data for research or model development can pose substantial privacy risks owing to the inclusion of sensitive information. Additionally, authentic data may be scarce, particularly in specialized domains where acquiring ample, varied, and high-quality data is difficult or costly. This scarcity or limited data availability can limit the training and testing of machine-learning models. In this paper, we address this challenge. In particular, our task is to synthesize a dataset with similar properties to an input dataset about the stock market. The input dataset is anonymized and consists of very few columns and rows, contains many inconsistencies, such as missing rows and duplicates, and its values are not normalized, scaled, or balanced. We explore the utilization of generative adversarial networks, a deep-learning technique, to generate synthetic data and evaluate its quality compared to the input stock dataset. Our innovation involves generating artificial datasets that mimic the statistical properties of the input elements without revealing complete information. For example, synthetic datasets can capture the distribution of stock prices, trading volumes, and market trends observed in the original dataset. The generated datasets cover a wider range of scenarios and variations, enabling researchers and practitioners to explore different market conditions and investment strategies. Accidents due to defective railway lines and derailments are common disasters that are observed frequently in Southeast Asian countries. It is imperative to run proper diagnosis over the detection of such faults to prevent such accidents. However, manual detection of such faults periodically can be both time-consuming and costly. In this paper, we have proposed a Deep Learning (DL)-based algorithm for automatic fault detection in railway tracks, which we termed an Ensembled Convolutional Autoencoder ResNet-based Recurrent Neural Network (ECARRNet). We compared its output with existing DL techniques in the form of several pre-trained DL models to investigate railway tracks and determine whether they are defective or not while considering commonly prevalent faults such as—defects in rails and fasteners. Moreover, we manually collected the images from different railway tracks situated in Bangladesh and made our dataset. After comparing our proposed model with the existing models, we found that our proposed architecture has produced the highest accuracy among all the previously existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) architecture, with an accuracy of 93.28% on the full dataset. Additionally, we split our dataset into two parts having two different types of faults, which are fasteners and rails. We ran the models on those two separate datasets, obtaining accuracies of 98.59% and 92.06% on rail and fastener, respectively. Model explainability techniques like Grad-CAM and LIME were used to validate the result of the models, where our proposed model ECARRNet was seen to correctly classify and detect the regions of faulty railways effectively compared to the previously existing transfer learning models. Neuroimaging experts in biotech industries can benefit from using cutting-edge artificial intelligence techniques for Alzheimer's disease (AD)- and dementia-stage prediction, even though it is difficult to anticipate the precise stage of dementia and AD. Therefore, we propose a cutting-edge, computer-assisted method based on an advanced deep learning algorithm to differentiate between people with varying degrees of dementia, including healthy, very mild dementia, mild dementia, and moderate dementia classes. In this paper, four separate models were developed for classifying different dementia stages: convolutional neural networks (CNNs) built from scratch, pre-trained VGG16 with additional convolutional layers, graph convolutional networks (GCNs), and CNN-GCN models. The CNNs were implemented, and then the flattened layer output was fed to the GCN classifier, resulting in the proposed CNN-GCN architecture. A total of 6400 whole-brain magnetic resonance imaging scans were obtained from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative database to train and evaluate the proposed methods. We applied the 5-fold cross-validation (CV) technique for all the models. We presented the results from the best fold out of the five folds in assessing the performance of the models developed in this study. Hence, for the best fold of the 5-fold CV, the above-mentioned models achieved an overall accuracy of 43.83%, 71.17%, 99.06%, and 100%, respectively. The CNN-GCN model, in particular, demonstrates excellent performance in classifying different stages of dementia. Emotion recognition models using audio input data can enable the development of interactive systems with applications in mental healthcare, marketing, gaming, and social media analysis. While the field of affective computing using audio data is rich, a major barrier to achieve consistently high-performance models is the paucity of available training labels. Self-supervised learning (SSL) is a family of methods which can learn despite a scarcity of supervised labels by predicting properties of the data itself. To understand the utility of self-supervised learning for audio-based emotion recognition, we have applied self-supervised learning pre-training to the classification of emotions from the CMU Multimodal Opinion Sentiment and Emotion Intensity (CMU- MOSEI)'s acoustic data. Unlike prior papers that have experimented with raw acoustic data, our technique has been applied to encoded acoustic data with 74 parameters of distinctive audio features at discrete timesteps. Our model is first pre-trained to uncover the randomly masked timestamps of the acoustic data. The pre-trained model is then fine-tuned using a small sample of annotated data. The performance of the final model is then evaluated via overall mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute error (MAE) per emotion, overall four-class accuracy, and four-class accuracy per emotion. These metrics are compared against a baseline deep learning model with an identical backbone architecture. We find that self-supervised learning consistently improves the performance of the model across all metrics, especially when the number of annotated data points in the fine-tuning step is small. Furthermore, we quantify the behaviors of the self-supervised model and its convergence as the amount of annotated data increases. This work characterizes the utility of self-supervised learning for affective computing, demonstrating that self-supervised learning is most useful when the number of training examples is small and that the effect is most pronounced for emotions which are easier to classify such as happy, sad, and angry. This work further demonstrates that self-supervised learning still improves performance when applied to the embedded feature representations rather than the traditional approach of pre-training on the raw input space. Scoring targets in shooting sports is a crucial and time-consuming task that relies on manually counting bullet holes. This paper introduces an automatic score detection model using object detection techniques. The study contributes to the field of computer vision by comparing the performance of seven models (belonging to two different architectural setups) and by making the dataset publicly available. Another value-added aspect is the inclusion of three variants of the object detection model, YOLOv8, recently released in 2023 (at the time of writing). Five of the used models are single-shot detectors, while two belong to the two-shot detectors category. The dataset was manually captured from the shooting range and expanded by generating more versatile data using Python code. Before the dataset was trained to develop models, it was resized (640 × 640) and augmented using Roboflow API. The trained models were then assessed on the test dataset, and their performance was compared using matrices like mAP50, mAP50-90, precision, and recall. The results showed that YOLOv8 models can detect multiple objects with good confidence scores. Among these models, YOLOv8m performed the best, with the highest mAP50 value of 96.7%, followed by the performance of YOLOv8s with the mAP50 value of 96.5%. It is suggested that if the system is to be implemented in a real-time environment, YOLOv8s is a better choice since it took significantly less inference time (2.3 ms) than YOLOv8m (5.7 ms) and yet generated a competitive mAP50 of 96.5%. Deep learning is employed in many applications, such as computer vision, natural language processing, robotics, and recommender systems. Large and complex neural networks lead to high accuracy; however, they adversely affect many aspects of deep learning performance, such as training time, latency, throughput, energy consumption, and memory usage in the training and inference stages. To solve these challenges, various optimization techniques and frameworks have been developed for the efficient performance of deep learning models in the training and inference stages. Although optimization techniques such as quantization have been studied thoroughly in the past, less work has been done to study the performance of frameworks that provide quantization techniques. In this paper, we have used different performance metrics to study the performance of various quantization frameworks, including TensorFlow automatic mixed precision and TensorRT. These performance metrics include training time and memory utilization in the training stage along with latency and throughput for graphics processing units (GPUs) in the inference stage. We have applied the automatic mixed precision (AMP) technique during the training stage using the TensorFlow framework, while for inference we have utilized the TensorRT framework for the post-training quantization technique using the TensorFlow TensorRT (TF-TRT) application programming interface (API).We performed model profiling for different deep learning models, datasets, image sizes, and batch sizes for both the training and inference stages, the results of which can help developers and researchers to devise and deploy efficient deep learning models for GPUs. Fruit quality is a critical factor in the produce industry, affecting producers, distributors, consumers, and the economy. High-quality fruits are more appealing, nutritious, and safe, boosting consumer satisfaction and revenue for producers. Artificial intelligence can aid in assessing the quality of fruit using images. This paper presents a general machine learning model for assessing fruit quality using deep image features. This model leverages the learning capabilities of the recent successful networks for image classification called vision transformers (ViT). The ViT model is built and trained with a combination of various fruit datasets and taught to distinguish between good and rotten fruit images based on their visual appearance and not predefined quality attributes. The general model demonstrated impressive results in accurately identifying the quality of various fruits, such as apples (with a 99.50% accuracy), cucumbers (99%), grapes (100%), kakis (99.50%), oranges (99.50%), papayas (98%), peaches (98%), tomatoes (99.50%), and watermelons (98%). The union of Edge Computing (EC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought forward the Edge AI concept to provide intelligent solutions close to the end-user environment, for privacy preservation, low latency to real-time performance, and resource optimization. Machine Learning (ML), as the most advanced branch of AI in the past few years, has shown encouraging results and applications in the edge environment. Nevertheless, edge-powered ML solutions are more complex to realize due to the joint constraints from both edge computing and AI domains, and the corresponding solutions are expected to be efficient and adapted in technologies such as data processing, model compression, distributed inference, and advanced learning paradigms for Edge ML requirements. Despite the fact that a great deal of the attention garnered by Edge ML is gained in both the academic and industrial communities, we noticed the lack of a complete survey on existing Edge ML technologies to provide a common understanding of this concept. To tackle this, this paper aims at providing a comprehensive taxonomy and a systematic review of Edge ML techniques, focusing on the soft computing aspects of existing paradigms and techniques. We start by identifying the Edge ML requirements driven by the joint constraints. We then extensively survey more than twenty paradigms and techniques along with their representative work, covering two main parts: edge inference, and edge learning. In particular, we analyze how each technique fits into Edge ML by meeting a subset of the identified requirements. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have exhibited remarkable potential in effectively tackling the intricate task of classifying MRI images, specifically in Alzheimer's disease detection and brain tumor identification. While CNNs optimize their parameters automatically through training processes, finding the optimal values for these parameters can still be a challenging task due to the complexity of the search space and the potential for suboptimal results. Consequently, researchers often encounter difficulties determining the ideal parameter settings for CNNs. This challenge necessitates using trial-and-error methods or expert judgment, as the search for the best combination of parameters involves exploring a vast space of possibilities. Despite the automatic optimization during training, the process does not guarantee finding the globally-optimal parameter values. Hence, researchers often rely on iterative experimentation and expert knowledge to fine-tune these parameters and maximize CNN performance. This poses a significant obstacle in developing real-world applications that leverage CNNs for MRI image analysis. This paper presents a new hybrid model that combines the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm with CNNs to enhance detection and classification capabilities. Our method utilizes the PSO algorithm to determine the optimal configuration of CNN hyper-parameters. Subsequently, these optimized parameters are applied to the CNN architectures for classification. As a result, our hybrid model exhibits improved prediction accuracy for brain diseases while reducing the loss of function value. To evaluate the performance of our proposed model, we conducted experiments using three benchmark datasets. Two datasets were utilized for Alzheimer's disease: the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) and an international dataset from Kaggle. The third dataset focused on brain tumors. The experimental assessment demonstrated the superiority of our proposed model, achieving unprecedented accuracy rates of 98.50%, 98.83%, and 97.12% for the datasets mentioned earlier, respectively. The Internet of Things (IoT) is seeing significant growth, as the quantity of interconnected devices in communication networks is on the rise. The increased connectivity of devices has heightened their susceptibility to hackers, underscoring the need to safeguard IoT devices. This research investigates cybersecurity in the context of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), which encompasses the cybersecurity mechanisms used for various healthcare devices connected to the system. This study seeks to provide a concise overview of several artificial intelligence (AI)-based methodologies and techniques, as well as examining the associated solution approaches used in cybersecurity for healthcare systems. The analyzed methodologies are further categorized into four groups: machine learning (ML) techniques, deep learning (DL) techniques, a combination of ML and DL techniques, Transformer-based techniques, and other state-of-the-art techniques, including graph-based methods and blockchain methods. In addition, this article presents a detailed description of the benchmark datasets that are recommended for use in intrusion detection systems (IDS) for both IoT and IoMT networks. Moreover, a detailed description of the primary evaluation metrics used in the analysis of the discussed models is provided. This paper describes the transformation of a traditional in silico classification network into an optical fully convolutional neural network with high-resolution feature maps and kernels. When using the free-space 4f system to accelerate the inference speed of neural networks, higher resolutions of feature maps and kernels can be used without the loss in frame rate. We present FatNet for the classification of images, which is more compatible with free-space acceleration than standard convolutional classifiers. It neglects the standard combination of convolutional feature extraction and classifier dense layers by performing both in one fully convolutional network. This approach takes full advantage of the parallelism in the 4f free-space system and performs fewer conversions between electronics and optics by reducing the number of channels and increasing the resolution, making this network faster in optics than off-the-shelf networks. To demonstrate the capabilities of FatNet, it was trained with the CIFAR100 dataset on GPU and the simulator of the 4f system. A comparison of the results against ResNet-18 shows 8.2 times fewer convolution operations at the cost of only 6% lower accuracy. This demonstrates that the optical implementation of FatNet results in significantly faster inference than the optical implementation of the original ResNet-18. In this paper, a computational framework is proposed that merges mechanistic modeling with deep neural networks obeying the Systems Biology Markup Language (SBML) standard. Over the last 20 years, the systems biology community has developed a large number of mechanistic models that are currently stored in public databases in SBML. With the proposed framework, existing SBML models may be redesigned into hybrid systems through the incorporation of deep neural networks into the model core, using a freely available python tool. The so-formed hybrid mechanistic/neural network models are trained with a deep learning algorithm based on the adaptive moment estimation method (ADAM), stochastic regularization and semidirect sensitivity equations. The trained hybrid models are encoded in SBML and uploaded in model databases, where they may be further analyzed as regular SBML models. This approach is illustrated with three well-known case studies: the Escherichia coli threonine synthesis model, the P58IPK signal transduction model, and the Yeast glycolytic oscillations model. Besides the many advances made in the facial detection and recognition fields, face recognition applied to visual images (VIS-FR) has received increasing interest in recent years, especially in the field of communication, identity authentication, public safety and to address the risk of terrorism and crime. These systems however encounter important problems in the presence of variations in pose, expression, age, occlusion, disguise, and lighting as these factors significantly reduce the recognition accuracy. To prevent problems in the visible spectrum, several researchers have recommended the use of infrared images. This paper provides an updated overview of deep infrared (IR) approaches in face recognition (FR) and analysis. First, we present the most widely used databases, both public and private, and the various metrics and loss functions that have been proposed and used in deep infrared techniques. We then review deep face analysis and recognition/identification methods proposed in recent years. In this review, we show that infrared techniques have given interesting results for face recognition, solving some of the problems encountered with visible spectrum techniques. Transformer architectures are highly expressive because they use self-attention mechanisms to encode long-range dependencies in the input sequences. In this paper, we present a literature review on Transformer-based (TB) models, providing a detailed overview of each model in comparison to the Transformer's standard architecture. This survey focuses on TB models used in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) for textual-based tasks. We begin with an overview of the fundamental concepts at the heart of the success of these models. Then, we classify them based on their architecture and training mode. We compare the advantages and disadvantages of popular techniques in terms of architectural design and experimental value. Today's air traffic management (ATM) system evolves around the air traffic controllers and pilots. This human-centered design made air traffic remarkably safe in the past. However, with the increase in flights and the variety of aircraft using European airspace, it is reaching its limits. It poses significant problems such as congestion, deterioration of flight safety, greater costs, more delays, and higher emissions. Transforming the ATM into the "next generation" requires complex human-integrated systems that provide better abstraction of airspace and create situational awareness, as described in the literature for this problem. The spread of SARS-CoV-2 can be considered one of the most complicated patterns with a large number of uncertainties and nonlinearities. Therefore, analysis and prediction of the distribution of this virus are one of the most challenging problems, affecting the planning and managing of its impacts. Although different vaccines and drugs have been proved, produced, and distributed one after another, several new fast-spreading SARS-CoV-2 variants have been detected. This is why numerous techniques based on artificial intelligence (AI) have been recently designed or redeveloped to forecast these variants more effectively. The focus of such methods is on deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML), and they can forecast nonlinear trends in epidemiological issues appropriately. This short review aims to summarize and evaluate the trustworthiness and performance of some important AI-empowered approaches used for the prediction of the spread of COVID-19. Sixty-five preprints, peer-reviewed papers, conference proceedings, and book chapters published in 2020 were reviewed. Our criteria to include or exclude references were the performance of these methods reported in the documents. The results revealed that although methods under discussion in this review have suitable potential to predict the spread of COVID-19, there are still weaknesses and drawbacks that fall in the domain of future research and scientific endeavors. Weather detection systems (WDS) have an indispensable role in supporting the decisions of autonomous vehicles, especially in severe and adverse circumstances. With deep learning techniques, autonomous vehicles can effectively identify outdoor weather conditions and thus make appropriate decisions to easily adapt to new conditions and environments. This paper proposes a deep learning (DL)-based detection framework to categorize weather conditions for autonomous vehicles in adverse or normal situations. The proposed framework leverages the power of transfer learning techniques along with the powerful Nvidia GPU to characterize the performance of three deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs): SqueezeNet, ResNet-50, and EfficientNet. The developed models have been evaluated on two up-to-date weather imaging datasets, namely, DAWN2020 and MCWRD2018. The combined dataset has been used to provide six weather classes: cloudy, rainy, snowy, sandy, shine, and sunrise. Experimentally, all models demonstrated superior classification capacity, with the best experimental performance metrics recorded for the weather-detection-based ResNet-50 CNN model scoring 98.48%, 98.51%, and 98.41% for detection accuracy, precision, and sensitivity. In addition to this, a short detection time has been noted for the weather-detection-based ResNet-50 CNN model, involving an average of 5 (ms) for the time-per-inference step using the GPU component. Finally, comparison with other related state-of-art models showed the superiority of our model which improved the classification accuracy for the six weather conditions classifiers by a factor of 0.5–21%. Consequently, the proposed framework can be effectively implemented in real-time environments to provide decisions on demand for autonomous vehicles with quick, precise detection capacity. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) theory, particularly deep learning neural networks, robot vacuums equipped with AI power can automatically clean indoor floors by using intelligent programming and vacuuming services. To date, several deep AI models have been proposed to distinguish indoor objects between cleanable litter and noncleanable hazardous obstacles. Unfortunately, these existing deep AI models focus entirely on the accuracy enhancement of object classification, and little effort has been made to minimize the memory size and implementation cost of AI models. As a result, these existing deep AI models require far more memory space than a typical robot vacuum can provide. To address this shortcoming, this paper aims to study and find an efficient deep AI model that can achieve a good balance between classification accuracy and memory usage (i.e., implementation cost). In this work, we propose a weight-quantized SqueezeNet model for robot vacuums. This model can classify indoor cleanable litters from noncleanable hazardous obstacles based on the image or video captures from robot vacuums. Furthermore, we collect videos or pictures captured by built-in cameras of robot vacuums and use them to construct a diverse dataset. The dataset contains 20,000 images with a ground-view perspective of dining rooms, kitchens and living rooms for various houses under different lighting conditions. Experimental results show that the proposed deep AI model can achieve comparable object classification accuracy of around 93% while reducing memory usage by at least 22.5 times. More importantly, the memory footprint required by our AI model is only 0.8 MB, indicating that this model can run smoothly on resource-constrained robot vacuums, where low-end processors or microcontrollers are dedicated to running AI algorithms. The number of IoT devices and the protocols they use has increased, which has led to an increase in attacks. Global operations can be disrupted, and substantial economic losses can be incurred due to these attacks. Cyberattacks have been detected using various techniques, such as deep learning and machine learning. In this paper, we propose an ensemble staking method to effectively reveal cyberattacks in the IoT with high performance. In this paper, a deep learning enabled object detection model for multi-class plant disease has been proposed based on a state-of-the-art computer vision algorithm. While most existing models are limited to disease detection on a large scale, the current model addresses the accurate detection of fine-grained, multi-scale early disease detection. The proposed model has been improved to optimize for both detection speed and accuracy and applied to multi-class apple plant disease detection in the real environment. The mean average precision (mAP) and F1-score of the detection model reached up to 91.2% and 95.9%, respectively, at a detection rate of 56.9 FPS. The overall detection result demonstrates that the current algorithm significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art detection model with a 9.05% increase in precision and 7.6% increase in F1-score. Over the past decade, focused ultrasound (FUS) has emerged as a promising therapeutic modality for various medical conditions. However, the exponential growth in the published literature on FUS therapies has made the literature review process increasingly time-consuming, inefficient, and error-prone. Machine learning approaches offer a promising solution to address these challenges. Therefore, the purpose of our study is to (1) explore and compare machine learning techniques for the text classification of scientific abstracts, and (2) integrate these machine learning techniques into the conventional literature review process. A classified dataset of 3588 scientific abstracts related and unrelated to FUS therapies sourced from the PubMed database was used to train various traditional machine learning and deep learning models. The fine-tuned Bio-ClinicalBERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) model, which we named FusBERT, had comparatively optimal performance metrics with an accuracy of 0.91, a precision of 0.85, a recall of 0.99, and an F1 of 0.91. FusBERT was then successfully integrated into the literature review process. Ultimately, the integration of this model into the literature review pipeline will reduce the number of irrelevant manuscripts that the clinical team must screen, facilitating efficient access to emerging findings in the field. Technological advances in information-processing capacity have enabled integrated analyses (multi-omics) of different omics data types, improving target discovery and clinical diagnosis. This study proposes novel artificial intelligence (AI) learning strategies for incomplete datasets, common in omics research. The model comprises (1) a multi-omics generative model based on a variational auto-encoder that learns tumor genetic patterns based on different omics data types and (2) an expanded classification model that predicts cancer phenotypes. Padding was applied to replace missing data with virtual data. The embedding data generated by the model accurately classified cancer phenotypes, addressing the class imbalance issue (weighted F1 score: cancer type > 0.95, primary site > 0.92, sample type > 0.97). The classification performance was maintained in the absence of omics data, and the virtual data resembled actual omics data (cosine similarity mRNA gene expression > 0.96, mRNA isoform expression > 0.95, DNA methylation > 0.96). Meanwhile, in the presence of omics data, high-quality, non-existent omics data were generated (cosine similarity mRNA gene expression: 0.9702, mRNA isoform expression: 0.9546, DNA methylation: 0.9687). This model can effectively classify cancer phenotypes based on incomplete omics data with data sparsity robustness, generating omics data through deep learning and enabling precision medicine. The motivation for using artificial neural networks in this study stems from their computational efficiency and ability to model complex, high-level abstractions. Deep learning models were utilized to predict the structural responses of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings subjected to earthquakes. For this aim, the dataset for training and evaluation was derived from complex computational dynamic analyses, which involved scaling real ground motion records at different intensity levels (spectral acceleration Sa(T1) and the recently proposed INp). The results, specifically the maximum interstory drifts, were characterized for the output neurons in terms of their corresponding statistical parameters: mean, median, and standard deviation; while two input variables (fundamental period and earthquake intensity) were used in the neural networks to represent buildings and seismic risk. To validate deep learning as a robust tool for seismic predesign and rapid estimation, a prediction model was developed to assess the seismic performance of a complex RC building with buckling restrained braces (RC-BRBs). Additionally, other deep learning models were explored to predict ductility and hysteretic energy in nonlinear single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems. Detecting early plant diseases autonomously poses a significant challenge for self-navigating robots and automated systems utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) imaging. For instance, Botrytis cinerea, also known as gray mold disease, is a major threat to agriculture, particularly impacting significant crops in the Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae families, making early and accurate detection essential for effective disease management. This study focuses on the improvement of deep learning (DL) segmentation models capable of early detecting B. cinerea on Cucurbitaceae crops utilizing Vision Transformer (ViT) encoders, which have shown promising segmentation performance, in systemic use with the Cut-and-Paste method that further improves accuracy and efficiency addressing dataset imbalance. Furthermore, to enhance the robustness of AI models for early detection in real-world settings, an advanced imagery dataset was employed. The dataset consists of healthy and artificially inoculated cucumber plants with B. cinerea and captures the disease progression through multi-spectral imaging over the course of days, depicting the full spectrum of symptoms of the infection, ranging from early, non-visible stages to advanced disease manifestations. Research findings, based on a three-class system, identify the combination of U-Net++ with MobileViTV2-125 as the best-performing model. This model achieved a mean Dice Similarity Coefficient (mDSC) of 0.792, a mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) of 0.816, and a recall rate of 0.885, with a high accuracy of 92%. Analyzing the detection capabilities during the initial days post-inoculation demonstrates the ability to identify invisible B. cinerea infections as early as day 2 and increasing up to day 6, reaching an IoU of 67.1%. This study assesses various infection stages, distinguishing them from abiotic stress responses or physiological deterioration, which is crucial for accurate disease management as it separates pathogenic from non-pathogenic stress factors. The complex nature of the steel manufacturing environment, characterized by different types of hazards from materials and large machinery, makes the need for objective and automated monitoring very critical to replace the traditional methods, which are manual and subjective. This study explores the feasibility of implementing computer vision for safety management in steel manufacturing, with a case study implementation for automated hard hat detection. The research combines hazard characterization, technology assessment, and a pilot case study. First, a comprehensive review of steel manufacturing hazards was conducted, followed by the application of TOPSIS, a multi-criteria decision analysis method, to select a candidate computer vision system from eight commercially available systems. This pilot study evaluated YOLOv5m, YOLOv8m, and YOLOv9c models on 703 grayscale images from a steel mini-mill, assessing performance through precision, recall, F1-score, mAP, specificity, and AUC metrics. Results showed high overall accuracy in hard hat detection, with YOLOv9c slightly outperforming others, particularly in detecting safety violations. Challenges emerged in handling class imbalance and accurately identifying absent hard hats, especially given grayscale imagery limitations. Despite these challenges, this study affirms the feasibility of computer vision-based safety management in steel manufacturing, providing a foundation for future automated safety monitoring systems. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Vision Transformers (ViTs) have shown remarkable performance in computer vision tasks, including object detection and image recognition. These models have evolved significantly in architecture, efficiency, and versatility. Concurrently, deep-learning frameworks have diversified, with versions that often complicate reproducibility and unified benchmarking. We propose ConVision Benchmark, a comprehensive framework in PyTorch, to standardize the implementation and evaluation of state-of-the-art CNN and ViT models. This framework addresses common challenges such as version mismatches and inconsistent validation metrics. As a proof of concept, we performed an extensive benchmark analysis on a COVID-19 dataset, encompassing nearly 200 CNN and ViT models in which DenseNet-161 and MaxViT-Tiny achieved exceptional accuracy with a peak performance of around 95 % . Although we primarily used the COVID-19 dataset for image classification, the framework is adaptable to a variety of datasets, enhancing its applicability across different domains. Our methodology includes rigorous performance evaluations, highlighting metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and computational efficiency (FLOPs, MACs, CPU, and GPU latency). Nowadays, online examination (exam in short) platforms are becoming more popular, demanding strong security measures for digital learning environments. This includes addressing key challenges such as head pose detection and estimation, which are integral for applications like automatic face recognition, advanced surveillance systems, intuitive human–computer interfaces, and enhancing driving safety measures. The proposed work holds significant potential in enhancing the security and reliability of online exam platforms. It achieves this by accurately classifying students' attentiveness based on distinct head poses, a novel approach that leverages advanced techniques like federated learning and deep learning models. The proposed work aims to classify students' attentiveness with the help of different head poses. In this work, we considered five head poses: front face, down face, right face, up face, and left face. A federated learning (FL) framework with a pre-trained deep learning model (ResNet50) was used to accomplish the classification task. To classify students' activity (behavior) in an online exam environment using the FL framework's local client device, we considered the ResNet50 model. However, identifying the best hyperparameters in the local client ResNet50 model is challenging. Hence, in this study, we proposed two hybrid bio-inspired optimized methods, namely, Particle Swarm Optimization with Genetic Algorithm (PSOGA) and Particle Swarm Optimization with Elitist Genetic Algorithm (PSOEGA), to fine-tune the hyperparameters of the ResNet50 model. The bio-inspired optimized methods employed in the ResNet50 model will train and classify the students' behavior in an online exam environment. The FL framework trains the client model locally and sends the updated weights to the server model. The proposed hybrid bio-inspired algorithms outperform the GA and PSO when independently used. The proposed PSOGA not only outperforms the proposed PSOEGA but also outperforms the benchmark algorithms considered for performance evaluation by giving an accuracy of 95.97%. Nowadays, one of the most common problems faced by Twitter (also known as X) users, including individuals as well as organizations, is dealing with spam tweets. The problem continues to proliferate due to the increasing popularity and number of users of social media platforms. Due to this overwhelming interest, spammers can post texts, images, and videos containing suspicious links that can be used to spread viruses, rumors, negative marketing, and sarcasm, and potentially hack the user's information. Spam detection is among the hottest research areas in natural language processing (NLP) and cybersecurity. Several studies have been conducted in this regard, but they mainly focus on the English language. However, Arabic tweet spam detection still has a long way to go, especially emphasizing the diverse dialects other than modern standard Arabic (MSA), since, in the tweets, the standard dialect is seldom used. The situation demands an automated, robust, and efficient Arabic spam tweet detection approach. To address the issue, in this research, various machine learning and deep learning models have been investigated to detect spam tweets in Arabic, including Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naive Bayes (NB) and Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM). In this regard, we have focused on the words as well as the meaning of the tweet text. Upon several experiments, the proposed models have produced promising results in contrast to the previous approaches for the same and diverse datasets. The results showed that the RF classifier achieved 96.78% and the LSTM classifier achieved 94.56%, followed by the SVM classifier that achieved 82% accuracy. Navigating the stock market's unpredictability and reducing vulnerability to its volatility requires well-informed decisions on stock selection, capital allocation, and transaction timing. While stock selection can be accomplished through fundamental analysis, the extensive data involved often pose challenges in discerning pertinent information. Timing, typically managed through technical analysis, may experience delays, leading to missed opportunities for stock transactions. Capital allocation, a quintessential resource optimization dilemma, necessitates meticulous planning for resolution. Consequently, this thesis leverages the optimization attributes of genetic algorithms, in conjunction with fundamental analysis and the concept of combination with repetition optimization, to identify appropriate stock selection and capital allocation strategies. Regarding timing, it employs deep learning coupled with the Ohlson model for stock valuation to ascertain the intrinsic worth of stocks. This lays the groundwork for transactions to yield favorable returns. In terms of experimentation, this study juxtaposes the integrated analytical approach of this thesis with the equal capital allocation strategy, TAIEX, and the Taiwan 50 index. The findings affirm that irrespective of the Taiwan stock market's bullish or bearish tendencies, the method proposed in this study indeed facilitates investors in making astute investment decisions and attaining substantial profits. The increasing rate of minimally invasive procedures and the growing prevalence of cardiovascular disease have led to a demand for higher-quality guidance systems for catheter tracking. Traditional methods for catheter tracking, such as detection based on single points and applying masking techniques, have been limited in their ability to provide accurate pose information. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning-based method for catheter tracking and pose detection. Our method uses a Yolov5 bounding box neural network with postprocessing to perform landmark detection in four regions of the catheter: the tip, radio-opaque marker, bend, and entry point. This allows us to track the catheter’s position and orientation in real time, without the need for additional masking or segmentation techniques. We evaluated our method on a dataset of fluoroscopic images from two distinct datasets and achieved state-of-the-art results in terms of accuracy and robustness. Our model was able to detect all four landmark features (tip, marker, bend, and entry) used to generate a pose for a catheter with 0.285 ± 0.143 mm, 0.261 ± 0.138 mm, 0.424 ± 0.361 mm, and 0.235 ± 0.085 mm accuracy. We believe that our method has the potential to significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of catheter tracking in medical procedures that utilize bi-plane fluoroscopy guidance.

Generating synthetic data is a complex task that necessitates accurately replicating the statistical and mathematical properties of the original data elements. In sectors such as finance, utilizing and disseminating real data for research or model development can pose substantial privacy risks owing to the inclusion of sensitive information. Additionally, authentic data may be scarce, particularly in specialized domains where acquiring ample, varied, and high-quality data is difficult or costly. This scarcity or limited data availability can limit the training and testing of machine-learning models. In this paper, we address this challenge. In particular, our task is to synthesize a dataset with similar properties to an input dataset about the stock market. The input dataset is anonymized and consists of very few columns and rows, contains many inconsistencies, such as missing rows and duplicates, and its values are not normalized, scaled, or balanced. We explore the utilization of generative adversarial networks, a deep-learning technique, to generate synthetic data and evaluate its quality compared to the input stock dataset. Our innovation involves generating artificial datasets that mimic the statistical properties of the input elements without revealing complete information. For example, synthetic datasets can capture the distribution of stock prices, trading volumes, and market trends observed in the original dataset. The generated datasets cover a wider range of scenarios and variations, enabling researchers and practitioners to explore different market conditions and investment strategies. This diversity can enhance the robustness and generalization of machine-learning models. We evaluate our synthetic data in terms of the mean, similarities, and correlations.

Efficiently determining crop water stress is vital for optimising irrigation practices and enhancing agricultural productivity. In this realm, the synergy of deep learning with remote sensing technologies offers a significant opportunity. This study introduces an innovative end-to-end deep learning pipeline for within-field crop water determination. This involves the following: (1) creating an annotated dataset for crop water stress using Landsat 8 imagery, (2) deploying a standalone vision transformer model ViT, and (3) the implementation of a proposed CNN-ViT model. This approach allows for a comparative analysis between the two architectures, ViT and CNN-ViT, in accurately determining crop water stress. The results of our study demonstrate the effectiveness of the CNN-ViT framework compared to the standalone vision transformer model. The CNN-ViT approach exhibits superior performance, highlighting its enhanced accuracy and generalisation capabilities. The findings underscore the significance of an integrated deep learning pipeline combined with remote sensing data in the determination of crop water stress, providing a reliable and scalable tool for real-time monitoring and resource management contributing to sustainable agricultural practices. In recent years, the use of deep learning in language models has gained much attention. Some research projects claim that they can generate text that can be interpreted as human writing, enabling new possibilities in many application areas. Among the different areas related to language processing, one of the most notable in applying this type of modeling is programming languages. For years, the machine learning community has been researching this software engineering area, pursuing goals like applying different approaches to auto-complete, generate, fix, or evaluate code programmed by humans. Considering the increasing popularity of the deep learning-enabled language models approach, we found a lack of empirical papers that compare different deep learning architectures to create and use language models based on programming code. This paper compares different neural network architectures like Average Stochastic Gradient Descent (ASGD) Weight-Dropped LSTMs (AWD-LSTMs), AWD-Quasi-Recurrent Neural Networks (QRNNs), and Transformer while using transfer learning and different forms of tokenization to see how they behave in building language models using a Python dataset for code generation and filling mask tasks. Considering the results, we discuss each approach’s different strengths and weaknesses and what gaps we found to evaluate the language models or to apply them in a real programming context.

Object detection is one of the vital and challenging tasks of computer vision. It supports a wide range of applications in real life, such as surveillance, shipping, and medical diagnostics. Object detection techniques aim to detect objects of certain target classes in a given image and assign each object to a corresponding class label. These techniques proceed differently in network architecture, training strategy and optimization function. In this paper, we focus on animal species detection as an initial step to mitigate the negative impacts of wildlife--human and wildlife--vehicle encounters in remote wilderness regions and on highways. Our goal is to provide a summary of object detection techniques based on R-CNN models, and to enhance the performance of detecting animal species in accuracy and speed, by using four different R-CNN models and a deformable convolutional neural network. Each model is applied on three wildlife datasets, results are compared and analyzed by using four evaluation metrics. Based on the evaluation, an animal species detection system is proposed. Fetal hypoxia is a condition characterized by a lack of oxygen supply in a developing fetus in the womb. It can cause potential risks, leading to abnormalities, birth defects, and even mortality. Cardiotocograph (CTG) monitoring is among the techniques that can detect any signs of fetal distress, including hypoxia. Due to the critical importance of interpreting the results of this test, it is essential to accompany these tests with the evolving available technology to classify cases of hypoxia into three cases: normal, suspicious, or pathological. Furthermore, Machine Learning (ML) is a blossoming technique constantly developing and aiding in medical studies, particularly fetal health prediction. Notwithstanding the past endeavors of health providers to detect hypoxia in fetuses, implementing ML and Deep Learning (DL) techniques ensures more timely and precise detection of fetal hypoxia by efficiently and accurately processing complex patterns in large datasets. Correspondingly, this review paper aims to explore the application of artificial intelligence models using cardiotocographic test data. The anticipated outcome of this review is to introduce guidance for future studies to enhance accuracy in detecting cases categorized within the suspicious class, an aspect that has encountered challenges in previous studies that holds significant implications for obstetricians in effectively monitoring fetal health and making informed decisions.

Single Image Super Resolution (SSIR) is an intriguing research topic in computer vision where the goal is to create high-resolution images from low-resolution ones using innovative techniques. SSIR has numerous applications in fields such as medical/satellite imaging, remote target identification and autonomous vehicles. Compared to interpolation based traditional approaches, deep learning techniques have recently gained attention in SISR due to their superior performance and computational efficiency. This article proposes an Autoencoder based Deep Learning Model for SSIR. The down-sampling part of the Autoencoder mainly uses 3 by 3 convolution and has no subsampling layers. The up-sampling part uses transpose convolution and residual connections from the down sampling part. The model is trained using a subset of the VILRC ImageNet database as well as the RealSR database. Quantitative metrics such as PSNR and SSIM are found to be as high as 76.06 and 0.93 in our testing. The study comprehensively reviews artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for addressing algorithmic bias in job hiring. More businesses are using AI in curriculum vitae (CV) screening. While the move improves efficiency in the recruitment process, it is vulnerable to biases, which have adverse effects on organizations and the broader society. This research aims to analyze case studies on AI hiring to demonstrate both successful implementations and instances of bias. It also seeks to evaluate the impact of algorithmic bias and the strategies to mitigate it. The basic design of the study entails undertaking a systematic review of existing literature and research studies that focus on artificial intelligence techniques employed to mitigate bias in hiring. The results demonstrate that the correction of the vector space and data augmentation are effective natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning techniques for mitigating algorithmic bias in hiring. The findings underscore the potential of artificial intelligence techniques in promoting fairness and diversity in the hiring process with the application of artificial intelligence techniques. The study contributes to human resource practice by enhancing hiring algorithms' fairness. It recommends the need for collaboration between machines and humans to enhance the fairness of the hiring process. The results can help AI developers make algorithmic changes needed to enhance fairness in AI-driven tools. Colorectal cancer is one of the most lethal cancers because of late diagnosis and challenges in the selection of therapy options. The histopathological diagnosis of colon adenocarcinoma is hindered by poor reproducibility and a lack of standard examination protocols required for appropriate treatment decisions. In the current study, using state-of-the-art approaches on benchmark datasets, we analyzed different architectures and ensembling strategies to develop the most efficient network combinations to improve binary and ternary classification. We propose an innovative two-stage pipeline approach to diagnose colon adenocarcinoma grading from histological images in a similar manner to a pathologist. The glandular regions were first segmented by a transformer architecture with subsequent classification using a convolutional neural network (CNN) ensemble, which markedly improved the learning efficiency and shortened the learning time. Moreover, we prepared and published a dataset for clinical validation of the developed artificial neural network, which suggested the discovery of novel histological phenotypic alterations in adenocarcinoma sections that could have prognostic value. Therefore, AI could markedly improve the reproducibility, efficiency, and accuracy of colon cancer diagnosis, which are required for precision medicine to personalize the treatment of cancer patients. Scoring targets in shooting sports is a crucial and time-consuming task that relies on manually counting bullet holes. This paper introduces an automatic score detection model using object detection techniques. The study contributes to the field of computer vision by comparing the performance of seven models (belonging to two different architectural setups) and by making the dataset publicly available. Another value-added aspect is the inclusion of three variants of the object detection model, YOLOv8, recently released in 2023 (at the time of writing). Five of the used models are single-shot detectors, while two belong to the two-shot detectors category. The dataset was manually captured from the shooting range and expanded by generating more versatile data using Python code. Before the dataset was trained to develop models, it was resized (640 × 640) and augmented using Roboflow API. The trained models were then assessed on the test dataset, and their performance was compared using matrices like mAP50, mAP50-90, precision, and recall. The results showed that YOLOv8 models can detect multiple objects with good confidence scores. Among these models, YOLOv8m performed the best, with the highest mAP50 value of 96.7%, followed by the performance of YOLOv8s with the mAP50 value of 96.5%. It is suggested that if the system is to be implemented in a real-time environment, YOLOv8s is a better choice since it took significantly less inference time (2.3 ms) than YOLOv8m (5.7 ms) and yet generated a competitive mAP50 of 96.5%.

Early detection and efficient management practices to control Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) infestation is crucial for safeguarding tomato production yield and minimizing economic losses. This study investigates the detection of T. absoluta infestation on tomato plants using object detection models combined with ensemble techniques. Additionally, this study highlights the importance of utilizing a dataset captured in real settings in open-field and greenhouse environments to address the complexity of real-life challenges in object detection of plant health scenarios. The effectiveness of deep-learning-based models, including Faster R-CNN and RetinaNet, was evaluated in terms of detecting T. absoluta damage. The initial model evaluations revealed diminishing performance levels across various model configurations, including different backbones and heads. To enhance detection predictions and improve mean Average Precision (mAP) scores, ensemble techniques were applied such as Non-Maximum Suppression (NMS), Soft Non-Maximum Suppression (Soft NMS), Non-Maximum Weighted (NMW), and Weighted Boxes Fusion (WBF). The outcomes shown that the WBF technique significantly improved the mAP scores, resulting in a 20% improvement from 0.58 (max mAP from individual models) to 0.70. The results of this study contribute to the field of agricultural pest detection by emphasizing the potential of deep learning and ensemble techniques in improving the accuracy and reliability of object detection models. Deep learning is employed in many applications, such as computer vision, natural language processing, robotics, and recommender systems. Large and complex neural networks lead to high accuracy; however, they adversely affect many aspects of deep learning performance, such as training time, latency, throughput, energy consumption, and memory usage in the training and inference stages. To solve these challenges, various optimization techniques and frameworks have been developed for the efficient performance of deep learning models in the training and inference stages. Although optimization techniques such as quantization have been studied thoroughly in the past, less work has been done to study the performance of frameworks that provide quantization techniques. In this paper, we have used different performance metrics to study the performance of various quantization frameworks, including TensorFlow automatic mixed precision and TensorRT. These performance metrics include training time and memory utilization in the training stage along with latency and throughput for graphics processing units (GPUs) in the inference stage. We have applied the automatic mixed precision (AMP) technique during the training stage using the TensorFlow framework, while for inference we have utilized the TensorRT framework for the post-training quantization technique using the TensorFlow TensorRT (TF-TRT) application programming interface (API).We performed model profiling for different deep learning models, datasets, image sizes, and batch sizes for both the training and inference stages, the results of which can help developers and researchers to devise and deploy efficient deep learning models for GPUs.

Fruit quality is a critical factor in the produce industry, affecting producers, distributors, consumers, and the economy. High-quality fruits are more appealing, nutritious, and safe, boosting consumer satisfaction and revenue for producers. Artificial intelligence can aid in assessing the quality of fruit using images. This paper presents a general machine learning model for assessing fruit quality using deep image features. This model leverages the learning capabilities of the recent successful networks for image classification called vision transformers (ViT). The ViT model is built and trained with a combination of various fruit datasets and taught to distinguish between good and rotten fruit images based on their visual appearance and not predefined quality attributes. The general model demonstrated impressive results in accurately identifying the quality of various fruits, such as apples (with a 99.50% accuracy), cucumbers (99%), grapes (100%), kakis (99.50%), oranges (99.50%), papayas (98%), peaches (98%), tomatoes (99.50%), and watermelons (98%). However, it showed slightly lower performance in identifying guavas (97%), lemons (97%), limes (97.50%), mangoes (97.50%), pears (97%), and pomegranates (97%).
