Radiation-induced conductivity (RIC) model is used in surface charging simulations to calculate the dielectric potential. The RIC model including continuity equation of current, Poisson equation and trapped charge rate equation aims at accurately simulate the surface charging process while taking into consideration the flux and dose rate profiles of injected electrons. Compared with the widely used parallel resistor-capacitor simplification in the equivalent circuit model, it results for a polyimide in a similar balance surface potential but a different charging process. It is also implemented into the 1-D Particle-In-Cell (PIC) code to compare with corresponding results of. The comparison between the results from the RIC and NASA/MATCHG shows a 50% difference for the surface potential of polyimide. In order to validate the model, ground experiments using electron beam were conducted. The 25 μm thick polyimide film was exposed to an electron beam with energy ranging from 10 keV to 30 keV and a flux density at a level of nA/cm2. The surface of the polyimide was charged to a potential of several kV proportionally to the applied electron energy. The deviation of potentials between experiment and PIC simulation is less than 25%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
