In industrial applications, fixed-point microprocessors are used widely considering cost and energy saving. Therefore, signal processing algorithm implements on these microprocessor in fixed-point arithmetic. On the other hand, it is well known that delta form is effective in fast sampling digital signal processing. In order to make delta operation effective in fixed-point arithmetic, we proposed modified delta form named variable modulation method (VMM). In this paper, round-off noise of conventional delta form and modified delta form are compared on first-order system. Stochastic analysis of round-off noise has showed that modified delta form or VMM can drastically reduce round-off noise comparing from conventional delta form. © 2007 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
