This study aims to use the concept of sustainability and provide guidance to geotechnical engineers to contribute towards greater sustainability in geotechnical design and construction. The methodology of the sustainability framework aims to support indicators and tools used in the sustainability concept in geotechnical engineering. In addition, available indicators will be used to analyze the role of natural resources, social impacts, environmental and economic aspects. In order to demonstrate the sustainability assessment approach, a case study is evaluated using the methodology of sustainability framework by using Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA). The assessment is studied for raft footing and deep foundations (driven and bored piles A foundation treatment of 15×15 m and 0.45 m thickness to carry a high static load or to carry cyclic loading is analyzed. The results indicate the calculations of sustainability indices from the multicriteria analysis show that the option of raft footing than deep foundation if raft provides adequate allowable load by improving the soil using lime piles technique is sustainable. The worldwide concern for cleanup, protection and enhancement of the environment has development of a sub discipline within the field of geotechnical engineering; namely Geo-environmental, which is concerned with the application of geotechnical engineering to environmental control. It is within this area that the concepts of stabilization, solidification and reuse of waste lime in geotechnical engineering works are popularly encountered. The cost of the construction materials has rapidly increased and hence stabilization of soil using admixtures becomes Cost effective and eco-friendly blocks. Thus waste natural lime (egg/sea shell) considerably promise to reduce the cost of construction or alternative material that would be suitable for construction activities and also reduces the disposal problem and hence reduces contamination of soil and water. Agricultural liming is a central issue in tackling soil acidity problems in tropical soils. A study on liming in a 1,845.2 ha sub-watershed Kemuning, Jember employing Exchangeable Alumunium (Al-dd) and Effective Cation Exchange Capacity (eCEC) methods. Our results showed that the average need for lime is 0.26-3.2 tons/ha in calcite and 0.9-3.5 tons/ha in dolomite form based on the Al-dd method. Furthermore, using the Effective CEC method, the average need for lime is 1.2-3.2 tons/ha. Based on the Al-dd way, there is an area of 336.4 ha that requires lime of 470.9 tons, while using the effective CEC method, there is a 676.2 ha area that takes lime 946.7 tons. This study aims to investigate lime stabilization of medium plasticity clay. Typical samples of soil with different amounts of lime (0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5%) by weight were prepared and tested in free swell, constant volume and unconfined compression tests. The results showed that adding (2%) lime by weight to the soil eliminates about (75%) of its swelling pressure and reduces its swelling potential by about (95%). Weak soil causing problem in pavement, landslide and fallen of building due to the low mechanical strength and the high shrinkage properties characteristic. But mixing weak soil with filler could improve the soil properties. The mixing of lime with weak soil and lime mix with nanotube and soil could improve the weak soil mechanical properties. The aim of this study is to show the improvement of unconfined compressive strength of weak soil after adding lime and nanotube and curing for 0, 7, 14 and 28 days of curing period. For the modification of soil in this study was using the lime and nanotube to mix with weak soil. The modified soil has been gone through the curing process for 0, 7, 14 and 28 days. The unconfined compressive strength of treated soil was increases when stabilizer content increases. Especially, that containing 0.1% of carbon-nanotube content and 5% of lime with 28 days of curing period could achieve 1.5 times higher than untreated sample. The improvement in the mixing content process including the pozzolanic process and the flocculation process which reduce the void between the soil particle. Hence increase the mechanical strength and unconfined compressive strength of treated soil. Soil is one of the common materials used in construction industry whether it is for groundwork, infrastructure or as building materials. However, construction issues arise when structures are built on soft soil such as soft clay that causes instability and settlement. In order to improve the soil strength, various methods had been adopted by researchers such as the use of stabilizers like lime, cement and fly ash. This paper presents the improvement of native clay soil stability by mixing the soil with nano alumina and the lime. Part of the reason of using the nano alumina is that the nanomaterial nowadays has become one of the popular materials in the research study which lead to possible application in the geotechnical field. To examine the effect of nano alumina and the lime on the soil stability, unconfined compression strength test was adopted. In this study, 0 % and 5 % of lime content was used to examine the effect of lime on the native clay soil while the percentage of nano alumina used to study the effect of nanomaterial was 0.05 %, 0.1 % and 0.2 %. To encounter the low bearing capacity, sudden shrinkage, and expansion of clayey soil at the starting stage of any new construction, an initial laboratory investigation is essential. For that, In this research, at the initial stage, a clay sample was taken as an oven-dry form having a silt content of 65.24% and clay content of 32.16%. The comparison property such as UCC, Atterberg limits and microstructural analysis using SEM of virgin soil parital additive with sodium bentonite (SB) stabilized with lime and the soil partial additive with SB treated with Sodium based alkaline Geopolymer (GP) were studied under the controlled condition after the stabilization, at various curing periods of 3,7,14,28 days and 2 hours immediately preparing the sample. The UCC samples were prepared and tested in untreated clay the value is obtained about 343.8kN/m2, after the stabilization at 28 days curing the results show that in lime stabilization was about 599.42 kN/m2 gained at 5% of SB content and in GP stabilized soil UCC value is about 1466.7 kN/m2 at 5 molar solution @ 1% of SB content @ 28days of curing. The results shows that a limited percentage of SB in geopolymer is enough to improve the soil strength but a larger amount was essential to enhance the enhancement and durability property and the SEM results have proved that the texture alteration of clay contributed to the contact of the particle as closer with Sodium bentonite admixed soil by geopolymer due to the bonding between particles due to the gel formation and hardening when compared to lime stabilization.
