Abstract

An experimental spectroscopic investigation of some neutron rich Mg and Al isotopes around the shell closure N=20 has been performed. The delayed neutron and $\gamma$ spectra, following the $\beta$-decay of $^{33}$Mg and $^{35}$Al have been measured using the delayed neutron detector array TONNERRE coupled with high efficiency EXOGAM clover detectors, a LEPS detector and eight low-energy neutron detectors. A detailed analysis of such spectra allows one to construct the level schemes of their daughters, $^{32,33)$Al and $^{34,35}$Si. The resulting spectroscopic information will provide stringent tests of large scale shell model calculations including np - nh excitations aimed at the understanding of the structural effects occurring in this region.

Abstract

Minimizing downtime in machine tools is one of the factors that determine the performance increase of the production processes involved, from different points of view considered: economic, energy and environmental. One of the possible causes that originate of machine is stops due to the need to change the tool by loss of their initial properties due to the wear process that suffer during machining. One of the wear processes which occurs in a wider range of temperatures in the machining of metal alloys is the adhesion wear. In the case of light alloys, secondary adhesion wear occurs a higher often in the form adhered layer (BUL) and ingrowth edge (BUE). Abstract

In this work we present optical model analysis of new near barrier-quasi-elastic experimental data, for the systems 6,7Li+120Sn. From the analysis it was possible to extract the ground state nucleon densities of the weakly bound 6,7Li isotopes. The apparent discrepancies between the experimental densities, as compared with those based on Dirac-Hartree-Fock-Bouguliubov (DHB) calculations were removed, considering in the reaction mechanism, the projectile break-up and a positive polarization from couplings of 6,7Li states of the continuum. Abstract

The two-proton radioactivity of the previously unknown 19Mg ground-state is observed by tracking the decay products in-flight. The trajectories of the 2p-decay products, 17Ne+p+p, have been measured by using tracking micro-strip detectors which allowed to reconstruct the 2p-decay vertices and fragment correlations. The half-life of 19Mg deduced from the measured vertex distribution is 4.0(15) ps in the system of 19Mg. The Q-value of the 2p-decay of the 19Mg ground-state inferred from the measured p-p-17Ne correlations is 0.75(5) MeV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We have studied the dynamical effects of the halo structure of 11Li on the scattering on heavy targets at energies around the Coulomb barrier. This experiment was performed at ISAC-II at TRIUMF with a world record in production of the post-accelerated 11Li beam. As part of this study we report here on the first measurement of the elastic cross section of the core nucleus, i.e. 9Li on 208Pb, at energies around the Coulomb barrier. Abstract

We present an Optical Model (OM) study of 6He on 208Pb elastic scattering data, measured at laboratory energies around the Coulomb barrier (Elab = 14, 16, 18, 22, and 27 MeV) [1]. For the projectile-target bare interaction, we use the microscopic São Paulo Potential (SPP). This bare interaction is supplemented with a Coulomb Dipole Polarization (CDP) potential, as well as a diffuse complex Woods-Saxon potential. Four-body Continuum-Discretized-Coupled-Channels (CDCC) calculations have been performed in order to support the optical model analysis. We have also studied the α channel, which is the dominant reaction process. In the analysis of this channel, we compare the angular and energy distributions of the α particles measured at 22 MeV, with Distorted Wave Born Approximation (DWBA) calculations. Abstract

New accelerators like SPIRAL2 (GANIL, France) or FAIR (GSI, Germany) will be soon constructed, and they will be able to produce radioactive ion beams (RIB) with high intensities of current (>=106 pps). These beams, at low energy, lower than 20 MeV/n, usually have high emittance, which imposes the use of tracking detectors before the target in order to reconstruct the trajectory of the ions. The group of Nuclear Physics at CNA (Centro Nacional de Aceleradores), is in charge of developing a tracking system for the low energy branch of FAIR (the HISPEC/DESPEC project). A collaboration with CEA-SACLAY was established, with the aim of developing, building and testing low pressure Secondary electron Detectors (SeD). Within this proposal we have projected and constructed a new Nuclear Physics Line in the CNA in order to be able to receive any kind of detector tests and the associated nuclear instruments.
