Ferromagnetic shape memory alloy with composition Ni50Mn34Sb8Al8 was prepared and its structural transformation temperatures were determined. The replacement of Sb with Al in this alloy led to increase in transition temperature but more interestingly, the low temperature magnetic behavior shows spin glass type nonergodic behavior, in contrast to simple ferromagnetic like other similar alloys. A simple and novel method for developing BiFeO3 (BFO) nanostructures like nanorods, nanowire etc. is presented. It involves chemical route employing Anodised Alumina (AAO) template with narrow pore sizes followed by controlled vacuum filtration and ion milling to remove the agglomerates. ZnO doped with Co has been synthesised at various concentrations from 1 to 20 atom % in bulk polycrystalline form by wet chemical method. Particle size was ranging from 40-50 nm. There was a signature of ferromagnetism at 7 atom % and higher with S-type curves in M-H plots. Remanent magnetization was quite appreciable. But, there is anomaly with decrease in moment at higher atomic concentrations. No sign of superparamagnetism due to nanoparticles was there. Magnetism is thought to be due to interaction between nearest neighbor Co(II) ions along with clusters of Co(II) in isolation, which may be due to precipitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
