Concrete is the most extensively used building material. Monitoring strain in concrete structures is crucial for ensuring their safety and longevity. Smart materials and sensors play a significant role in structural health monitoring, enabling the detection of internal deformations or damages caused by environmental and loading factors by using non-destructive testing methods. A low-cost strain measurement method using strain gauges and Wheatstone's bridge can be used to measure the minute variations of deformation in the concrete beam. The analog voltage variation at the balanced bridge is sensed and converted to a digital value using a high-resolution ADC. The value is calibrated and used to measure the threats in the beam due to the stress and environmental effects. The processing is done with a highly efficient embedded system. The test is conducted on both plain cement concrete(PCC) and reinforced cement concrete(RCC) beams. The breakpoint of the beam is identified and the strain for the maximum stress/load is observed. The values obtained from the experimental setup are compared with the theoretical values and validated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
