Abstract

The author talks about the promotion of breastfeeding by nurses that may threaten relationship with patients. She cites from her experience and literature reports suggesting that some women feel pressured by nurses who believe that breastfeeding is ideal for everyone. Patients with mood disorders, difficulty lactating and risk of medication transfer may feel pressured and anxious to breastfeed. She advises nurses to assess maternal mental health status and communicate in a nonjudgmental way.
