Abstract

The mitochondrial genome diversity with reference to the evolutionary history of Beringia and Pleistocenic peopling of the Americas, as observed in arctic Siberians is studied. The Paleosiberian-speaking Yukaghir is shown to be primarily from the southern belt of Siberia with changing environmental conditions.

Abstract

Implications for the genetic history of ancient Beringia and for the people of the New World as found in mtDNA diversity in Chukchi and Siberian Eskimos are discussed. Beringia over millennia was perhaps the location of the respective founding sequences that selectively came into northern North America via western Alaska.
