The article discusses the need for school boards and school administrators to lead and support teachers and students, and the benefits of training administrators to be inspirational. The authors, administrators from public schools in Meriden, Connecticut, discuss their experiences with standardized test scores, differentiated instruction, and teacher evaluation. They claim that the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and the Race to the Top grants fail to advance academic achievement, and that the U.S. federal government needs to change them. They recommend considering students' and communities' economic status when evaluating achievement, analyzing resource allocation, and encouraging communication between teachers and administrators.
