The issue of foreign direct investment (FDI) has been and is being discussed intensively, with concerns both at national and international level. Given the divergent distribution of ISD inflows at Central and Eastern European level and the potential of foreign direct investment to represent a "new Marshall Plan" for Central and Eastern European countries, we have carried out a brief analysis of the effects of foreign capital in Estonia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania, following the highlighting of the impact on the economic, social and natural environment from the perspective of sustainable development.

Even since 1991, after regaining its independence from the Soviet Union, the international community was optimistic regarding the international trajectory of Ukraine, as they believed that soon enough, she would become a new member of NATO, OECD and European Economic Community. Even if Ukraine was the biggest European country in terms of territory, she was always looked upon as being Europe`s “sick man”, an almost failed country given its geopolitical situation, its history and the mistakes that were made in terms of political and institutional development. From an economic perspective, Ukraine did not have a sustainable growth basis and did not followed the trend set out in Eastern Europe after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The collapse of the heavy industry, the lack of a national coin, the political and economic chaos after the independence brought about serious challenges that this country had to face in order to gain even a small place at the table of the negotiations. The strong dependence on Russian resources did not made the path easier and for many years Ukraine struggled to keep the pace with the international trend in terms of trade and development. This paper stresses the difficulties faced by the Ukrainian economy from the early 90s until 2015-16, the challenges that had to be overcome and the attitude of the International Community towards this country.

Sustainable development of an area or region, as a process of change, of economic and jobs development, entails, in the context of what it summarizes through the dualism: ecosystem-ecoeficiency, community concern over the current and future situation of its natural resources, energy, materials and information. With the responsible approach for the sustainable development of mining areas, the exploitation and the efficient use of coal as the main source of fossil fuel for energy production, involves the operation of a sustainable economy to meet the current needs of the society, respectively the orientation of the development technologies and the institutions of increasingly responsible for implementation, which actions must be convergent and replace the fact that mining must use resources with care such as mining as a whole, should not endanger the natural support systems of life. The paper presents, in an uniform and coherent whole, the specific principles and criteria of strategic and integrated management of sustainable development, based on what are the detailed objectives and priorities of economic development of mining regions, as well as highlights of the strategic management of sustainable development at the local, regional and national levels.

The objective of our paper is to highlight and analyse certain of the important challenges of the Romanianhigher education in European context during the post-communist era, within the market economy, in the context of thetransformations higher education has been suffering at European level during the last decade of the 20th Century, thefirst decade of the 21st Century and the beginning of the second decade of the 21st Century.

The foreign trade represent the engine of renewal of productive structures of developed countries and the essential vector for the development of newly industrialized nations as countries that can not be considered as belonging to the developing countries, mainly due to exports development. Nobody doubts the need for foreign trade and its possible beneficial effects for the economy of a country, which is supported by John Stuart Mill classical economist, who said that "openness to foreign trade ... is sometimes the effect of an industrial revolution as a country whose resources are poor" This paper analyses, on the one side, the importance of foreign trade and his evolution in 2001– 2010 period, and, on the other side, the consequences of the economic crisis on it. The period under review includes the last years of economic growth in Romania and the first years of actual economic crisis., because the global economic crisis is reflected strongly in the evolution of Romania's foreign trade, which in February 2009, has seen a veritable collapse over the same period of the previous year.

The American market economy system is the convergence point of two theoretical models: the neoclassic model (which excludes the state intervention) and keynesist model (in which the state intervenes as decisional economic agent). the relaunch of American economy set off at the end of the last century in the same time with Ronald Reagan presidency and relies on a important financial and technological patrimony.

The work of the market economy in a modern and efficient way depends on the existence of an as large as possible number of competitive enterprises, both on the internal and external market. In order to make a global assessment of the economical and financial performances of the Romanian industrial companies, in this paper we set as a goal to analyze the dynamics of their number, the number of employees, as well as the main result indicators. The analysis is made both on the whole industrial companies and on types of size and this further allows pointing out the sectors with the highest level of the economical and financial performances.

Information regarding production costs occupy a central slot, determined by their implications regarding the present and future evolution of a company. The value of information regarding the cost of production justifies its use both in decisions regarding the current activity and in the company’s future strategy. The efficient organization of economic activity in the carboniferous mining industry imposes a constant improvement of management methods, which also implies a reconsideration of administration accountancy methods and cost control, which have to become capable of offering information that can be compatible to the requirements for an efficient management of the production process, in a market economy.

In the complex connection process of national economies to global economy flows, an important role has the foreign trade, which in recent decades has become, in the market economy conditions, one of the factors determining for economic growth. Foreign trade, as a separate branch of the national economy is an important factor of economic growth, caused by the internationalization of business and determining for the process of globalization. For Romania, a country still in transition and recent member of the European Union is particularly important to enhance the participation to international trade in goods and services, but also attracting foreign investments in the economy as the main possibilities for the re-industry and restructuring the national economy in order to creation and maintenance of sustainable competitive advantages. Starting from these considerations, in this article I addressed/aproached the theoretical aspects of foreign trade, without omitting intracomunity purchases and deliveries of goods.
