BACKGROUND: Lymphatic malformations are developmental anomalies consisting of abnormally formed lymphatic vessels; 50% of these lesions are diagnosed at birth, more than 60% affect head and neck region, most frequently in oral cavity (75%) and the oral tongue is the predominant subsite. The primary treatment for lymphatic malformations is surgical excision. Some literature recommends sclerotherapy as first-line treatment for lymphatic malformations, because of acceptable results and less comorbidities when compared to surgical excision which carries higher complication rate associated with extension, age of the patient and relation with vital structures. CLINICAL CASE: A 37-year-old female patient, who referred increased volume in one third anterior of oral tongue since birth. With pathological anatomy study at two months of life it was diagnosed lymphangioma. At age of 34 years, patient refused surgical treatment, thus, sclerotherapy with bleomycin was proposed, with which obtained a good response. CONCLUSIONS: Intralesional bleomycin is a safe and effective treatment of lymphatic malformations showing acceptable results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
