Any polymers composed of racemic segments are obviously optically inactive and lack any chiroptical applications. Here, we present an intriguing method for precisely generating global chirality in racemic copolymer assemblies without any external asymmetrical intervention via step‐wise polymerization‐induced chiral self‐assembly (PICSA). Global supramolecular chirality of the nanoaggregates could be dynamically switched by the two diametrically opposed chiral conflict effects: “first come, first serve” effect and “late‐comer lives above” effect, which can be controlled by the precisely specified the number and sequence of enantiomeric segments. Significantly, the supramolecular stacking manners of the racemic mesogenic building units as well as the liquid crystallinity of the solvophobic core play a crucial role for the chiral communication pathway of enantiomeric mesogens. Furthermore, such switchable global chirality in racemic polymers is broadly applicable and well regulable. We propose that this research may challenge the notion that racemic systems lack optical activity while highlighting their potential applications in functional racemic polymer materials and providing insights into the evolution of racemates towards homochirality on early Earth. Control over molecular motion is facilitated in materials with highly ordered nanoscale structures. Here we report on the fabrication of cholesteric liquid‐crystal networks by circularly polarized light irradiation, without the need for chiral dopant or plasticizer. The polymer network is obtained by photopolymerization of a smectic achiral diacrylate mesogen consisting of an azobenzene core and discrete oligodimethylsiloxane tails. The synchronous helical photoalignment and photopolymerization originate from the cooperative movement of the mesogens ordered in well‐defined responsive structures, together with the flexibility of the oligodimethylsiloxane blocks. The resulting thin films show excellent thermal stability and light‐induced memory features with reversible responses. Additionally, we demonstrate the fabrication of photo‐patterned films of liquid‐crystal networks with opposite helical senses. A porous liquid‐crystalline network (LCN), prepared by using a template method, was found to exhibit peculiar actuation functions. The creation of porosity makes the initially hydrophobic LCN behave like a hydrogel, capable of absorbing a large volume of water (up to ten times the sample size of LCN). When the amount of absorbed water is relatively small (about 100 % swelling ratio), the porous LCN displays anisotropic swelling in water and, in the same time, the retained uniaxial alignment of mesogens ensures a thermally induced shape change associated with a LC‐isotropic phase transition. Combining the characteristic actuation mechanisms of LCN (order–disorder transition of mesogens) and hydrogel (water absorption), such porous LCNs can be explored for versatile stimuli‐triggered shape transformations. Moreover, the porosity enables loading/removal/reloading of functional fillers such as ionic liquids, photothermal dyes and fluorophores, which imparts the porous LCN actuator with reconfigurable functions such as ionic conductivity, light‐driven locomotion, and emissive color. Liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) have been actively investigated as stimuli‐controlled actuators and soft robots. The basis of these applications is the ability of LCEs to undergo a reversible shape change upon a liquid crystalline (LC)‐isotropic phase transition. Herein, we report the synthesis of a novel LCE based on a side‐chain liquid crystalline polymer (SCLCP). In contrast to known LCEs, this LCE exhibits a striking anomalous shape change. Subjecting a mechanically stretched monodomain strip to LC‐disorder phase transition, both the length and width of the strip contract in isotropic phase, and both elongate in LC phase. This thermally induced behaviour is the result of a subtle interplay between the relaxation of polymer main chain oriented along the stretching direction and the disordering of side‐group mesogens oriented perpendicularly to the stretching direction. Liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) are anisotropic polymeric materials. When subjected to an applied stress, liquid crystalline (LC) mesogens within the elastomeric polymer network (re)orient to the loading direction. The (re)orientation during deformation results in nonlinear stress‐strain dependence (referred to as soft elasticity). Here, we uniquely explore mechanotropic phase transitions in elastomers with appreciable mesogenic content and compare these responses to LCEs in the polydomain orientation. The isotropic (amorphous) elastomers undergo significant directional orientation upon loading, evident in strong birefringence and x‐ray diffraction. Functionally, the mechanotropic displacement of the elastomers to load is also nonlinear. However, unlike the analogous polydomain LCE compositions examined here, the isotropic elastomers rapidly recover after deformation. The mechanotropic orientation of the mesogens in these materials increase the toughness of these thiol‐ene photopolymers by nearly 1300 % relative to a chemically similar elastomer prepared from wholly isotropic precursors. Two shape‐persistent star mesogens with oligo(phenylene ethenylene) arms and a phthalocyanine core—one providing free space (2) and one sterically encumbered by four fullerenes attached through spacers (3)—have been successfully synthesized. In contrast to the smaller discotic derivative 1, mesogen 2 forms a columnar liquid crystal (LC), which can only be partially aligned without π‐stacking, while 3 is not an LC. Exceptionally, the 1:1 mixture of 2 and 3 forms an alignable columnar LC with strong π‐stacking and quadruply helically organized fullerenes by an unprecedented click process that is similar to a ball detent mechanism. The C60 units also interconnect different columns. This is driven by nanosegregation and space‐filling of the voids with fullerenes. Photophysical studies confirm the presence of a light‐collecting system that generates charge‐separated states in solution and in the solid state, which makes such highly organized materials attractive for the study of future photovoltaic devices. Abstract: Replacing pure inorganic materials by functional organic–inorganic hybrid ones to lower production costs has become a major challenge, in particular for the optoelectronic industry. Adding nanostructuration abilities meanwhile preserving homogeneity is even more challenging for this class of new materials. Here we show that red‐NIR emissive ternary molybdenum cluster salts can be assembled to liquid crystalline 15C5 crown ethers. The resulting hybrids are homogeneous and stable up to high temperature despite the weakness of the supramolecular interactions binding both components. These are illustrated by 133Cs MAS NMR. All hybrids show hexagonal columnar arrangements and strong red‐NIR emission. Surprisingly, when chlorinated clusters are used instead of brominated ones, the mesophase stability is largely enhanced. Abstract: Liquid crystalline tactoids are anisotropic microdroplets existing in isotropic phases. We studied the structure and evolution of tactoids in the presence of doping nanoparticles by electron microscopy at the resolution of individual mesogens and observed size‐selective exclusion effects of liquid crystalline tactoids on foreign nanoparticles. We applied this principle to the separation of polymer nanospheres, gold nanoparticles, and magnetic nanoparticles by size. These results indicate a new way to size‐selectively separate nanoparticles using lyotropic liquid crystals, in which nanoparticles smaller than a threshold size will be selectively transferred from the disordered phase into the ordered phase by tactoids during the phase separation process. Columnar liquid crystals composed of a giant macrocyclic mesogen were prepared. The giant macrocyclic mesogen has a square hollow with a 2.5 nm diagonal, which was bounded by diindolo[3,2- b:2′,3′- h]carbazole (diindolocarbazole) moieties as the edges and bis(salicylidene)- o-phenylenediamine (salphen) moieties as the corners. The shape and size of the macrocycle were directly observed by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Each side of the bright square in the STM image corresponds to a diindolocarbazole moiety, and the length of the sides was consistent with the result of the single crystal analysis of diindolocarbazole. Finally, we successfully obtained a giant macrocycle with long and branched side chains, which exhibited a rectangular columnar LC phase over a wide temperature range. A quaternary amphiphile with swallow-tail side groups displays a new bicontinuous thermotropic cubic phase with symmetry Pn3m and formed by two interpenetrating networks where cylindrical segments are linked by H bonds at tetrahedral junctions. Each network segment contains two bundles, each containing 12 rod-like mesogens, lying along the segment axis. This assembly leads to the first thermotropic structure of the "double diamond" type. Producing macrocyclic mesogens that are responsive to guest encapsulation presents a significant challenge. Cyclo[6]aramides, a type of macrocycle with a hydrogen-bond-constrained backbone, exhibit thermotropic lamellar, discotic nematic, hexagonal, and rectangular columnar mesophases over a considerably wide temperature range, including at room temperature. Additionally, cyclo[6]aramides show unusual mesophase transitions from lamellar to hexagonal columnar phase mediated by macrocyclic host-guest (H-G) interactions between the macrocycles and alkylammonium salts. The phase transition, triggered by an organic guest engaging in H-G interactions with a macrocyclic cavity, provides a novel strategy for manipulating the properties of liquid-crystalline materials. The crystal structure of a homologous cyclo[6]aramide reveals a disk-shaped, near-planar molecular backbone that facilitates intermolecular π-π stacking and leads to columnar assembly. Hexasubstituted C3-symmetric benzenes with three oligophenylenevinylene (OPV) arms and three pyridyl or phenyl substituents are shape-persistent star mesogens that are sterically crowded in the center. Such molecular structures possess large void spaces between their arms, which have to be filled in condensed phases. For the neat materials, this is accomplished by an exceptional formation of dimers and short-range helical packing in columnar mesophases. The mesophase is thermodynamically stable for the pyridyl compound. Only this derivative forms filled star-shaped supermesogens in the presence of various carboxylic acids. The latter do not arrange as dimers, but as monomers along the columnar stacks. In this liquid crystal (LC) phase, the guests are completely enclosed by the hosts. A discotic liquid-crystalline (LC) material, consisting of a planarized triphenylborane mesogen, was synthesized. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed that this compound forms a hexagonal columnar LC phase with an interfacial distance of 3.57 Å between the discs. At ambient temperature, this boron-centered discotic liquid crystal exhibited ambipolar carrier transport properties with electron and hole mobility values of approximately 10−3 and 3×10−5 cm2 V−1 s−1, respectively. Star-shaped oligophenylenevinylene (OPV) mesogens are shape-persistent and possess formally large void space. A mesogen with three styrene repeating units packs densely in a columnar helical arrangement. Attachment of one fullerene through a short spacer results in an exceptional increase of the mesophase stability.
