SummaryThe Hylaeus gibbusspecies-group is a notoriously difficult group, whose nomenclature is currently confusing. To clarify the taxonomy of this species group, the most problematic types of the gibbusspecies-group were examined. The identity of Hylaeus pictus(Smith, 1853) is unclear. SummaryWhile TriepeolusRobertson, 1901 is monospecific in Europe, there are still many issues with the taxonomy of EpeolusLatreille, 1802. To address some of the taxonomical issues, the Palaearctic Epeolini housed in the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, Paris (MNHN), were examined. Type materials of Pérez and Benoist are designated. One species name, Epeolus jullianiPérez, 1895, stat. rev., is removed from synonymy. Its sister-species, Epeolus transitoriusEversmann, 1852, is redescribed and a lectotype is designated. Males of E. transitoriusand E. collarisPérez, 1884 are described for the first time. An annotated summary of the Epeolini housed in MNHN is provided, with an identification key to the European species of the Epeolus variegatus-group.
