Investment Casting (IC) technology is a fast and efficient way of fabricating metal parts with complex shapes, in small volume production. The objective of the paper is to study the accuracy of the wax patters, cast in different temperature conditions and to optimize the gating system for the wax tree. The accuracy of silicone rubber mold and wax models is the most important element for obtaining tight casting tolerances. Also the size, position and orientation of the wax models onto the sprue, play an important role in providing a high quality of the cast part. Measurements were made within regular conditions, considering the parameters that influence the process such as: temperature of melting wax, silicone rubber mold temperature and the diameter of the funnel. Abrasive Water Jet Cutting technology has some advantages as compare to other technologies, such as: no thermal distortion, high machining versatility and high flexibility. WJC has proved to be an efficient technology for etching various engineering materials. The objective of the paper was to optimize the WJC parameters, in order to be suitable for etching process. An experimental investigation was undertaken, in order to study the influence of process's parameters: pressure, traverse feed rate and abrasive mass flow on the etching process. The paper presents a mathematical modeling of the depth of etching, using the abrasive water jet cutting process for etching onto steel and stainless steel. The mathematical models were tested after words by experimental research. The theoretical estimations proved to be in a good correlation with the experimental data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper presents a comparative study about the complete machining of complex parts in one setup on CNC multitasking lathes, towards complete machining of the same parts on CNC turning centers and CNC machining centers, where are needful more setups of the machines. Increased productivity and precision of the machining can be attained in the simplest way, by decreasing the number of the part clamps and the number of the employed machine-tools. This paper recommends the use of the CNC multitasking lathes, a modern technology that creates the possibility to machine the parts completely on a single machine tool, in one setup. The paper presents experimental case studies of manufacturing complex metal parts by selective laser melting (SLM) and selective laser sintering (SLS). The objective is to evaluate the benefits, using different criteria, such as the dimensional accuracy, surface roughness and manufacturing time and costs. The capabilities of these rapid manufacturing technologies are also discussed as compare to the well known CNC manufacturing.
